That man was a force of nature, an elegant and talented beast
That's why he was the Buddy Miles Express!
When I was a kid, lived for Midnight Special. Kudos Buddy!
Yeah I missed out. Pops was in the Navy and we were in Japan from '73-'77. The base got American TV after we left😢
Midnight Special was awesome had to tune in because you never knew who you might see
And it was live, not lip-synced.
BUDDY MILES WAS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING..HE COULD PLAY DRUMS...AND HE COULD SING.....ABSOLUTELY AMAZING..THANKS FOR SHARING FACT AMEN 🙏
GOD BLESS YOU. GOD BLESS AMERICA. TRUMP FOR PRESIDENT. AMEN

Buddy’s backing musicians here are guitarist Steve Busfield and bassist Roland Robinson, both formerly of the hard rock band “Steel”, who released their self-titled LP in 1971 on Epic with Jimi Hendrix's sound engineer, Eddie Kramer, producing. In addition to Busfield and Robinson, the members of Steel were keyboardist/vocalist Duane Hitchings, drummer Jerry Norris, and lead/backing vocalist Carl Sims. Hitchings was also a member of the Buddy Miles Express, and Roland Robinson, in addition to working with Norris as session musicians for the Stax label, jammed with Hendrix (he is credited on the Hendrix “Nine To The Universe” album published in 1980). Hitchings, Robinson and Norris also joined guitarist Mike Pinera in a short-lived reformed version of the band Cactus for the 1973 album “Son Of Cactus”. Hitchings and Robinson would also go on to write the hit song “Infatuation” for Rod Stewart.
Thanks you answered a lot my questions I was asking myself . mostly who is that Guitarist ? On Fire !
Hitchings was also on the Cactus LP 'Ot 'n' Sweaty...
Thanks. I NEEDED to know who the bassist was, always my listening orientation but rarely so rewarded. Nuttin like this era's 3-man bands! (Cream, Zep, Hendrix Experience...)
Nice write-up, exactly what I was trying to figure out as i was listening to Buddy Miles and company jam. -Much appreciated!
Thanks. I was wondering. I never knew Buddy worked in a three piece band before. Aside from Hendrix of course. Do you know if they put out an album?
Wild man, Buddy Miles!😅 He was a great surprise in that episode for me because I'd never heard of him. Great bass and guitar, too!😎
Glad you enjoyed it
The guitarist Steve Busfield. He played on the album Booger Bear that Buddy had just released.
Love this song!! Go Buddy Go!! 😅
The sound of the 70's.😎
My old band played this at dances. Everyone went through them changes!
You don't get that potent mix of raw soul and energy in 2024, sadly.
He had a very nice voice.R.I.P. Buddy.
This is one baddass jam right here! Love it!
Too funky...and talented.
Awww, hell yeah!
Omaha native sounds awesome!!!!
I saw Buddy sit in with Phish on 10/22/96 at Madison Square Garden. They played All Along The Watchtower.
Hard rock back in the days along with Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and Humble Pie and many others.
I was living in the Puget Sound area around the early 90's and Buddy was playing with a Jimi Hendrix impersonator/tribute act, maybe it was Randy Hansen? I can't remember. But he was playing at little festivals and gigs, and played the sunfest I think it was called on San Juan Island in the middle of a field. I found out the day after he left, I was so bummed.
Nice! I have the album. One of my favorite tunes.
Great album.
Got this45 RPM that was scratched. i fix it somewhat and still have it.
I seen Buddy Miles,in 1976 opening. He played hard like he was headling.
Come on y’all 😊.

เขาไม่เอาตั้งแต่แรกแล้วเขาไม่พอใจรัฐบาลรัสเซียอย่างมากที่กดดันเขาเรื่องยูเครน
In the early 1970's, Buddy Miles came to town (Spokane, Wa) and played at the Kennedy Pavilion located on the Gonzaga University campus. I and my Bass player had no money so we stood by the back doors where right on the other side, the stage was set up. There was a break between bands and what do you know, The door opened up and out stepped Buddy Miles in his red white and blue flag leather jacket. Maybe for some fresh air before playing or maybe to have a smoke. He asked us what we were doing and we told him we were just listening to the bands from outside. He said, come on in and we suddenly had front row privilege right up against the very front of the stage. At the end of the show, someone else sat at the drums and he grabbed an old gold top Les Paul guitar and played a song and went in to a solo. He was slinging it hard and waving his head back and forth while playing and we actually got hit with some saliva or sweat flying off of him, not sure which. After the show ended, we stepped up on to the stage and we gave to him our thank you's and exchanged hugs with him. It was a different time and the big stars were still approachable. We also spent some time in a trailer behind a local night club smoking the bad stuff with Lydia Pense of Cold Blood, just her and us. It was surreal. What great memories.
You sure you didn't dream that 😅
I love stories like this. Great memories, as you said. ❤
Ah I’m jealous shit like that is so rare now
Wow. Thanks for that memory. I was right there with you.
That's cool brah. 👍
When talent was mandatory.
FACTS
Very well said….
Yup!
lots of it right here
Him and Jimi Hendrix along with Billy Cox Band of Gypsy's did it like no other
Buddy was so hurt by the way outside forces were gathered to tear apart A Band of Gypsys😢 30 years afterward and he would still be fighting back the tears.
they were great..I preferred the first band sounds though..JHE
Now that a drummer, accomplishes MUCH with less, not 50 million drums, what does Buddy Miles have here a 5 piece drum set if I’m not mistaken, love his drumming here those singles that he did, man were they smooth and clean. CLASSIC MUSIC!!!! Musicians could play and SING, not the junk that’s being put out today and the horrible singers on these shows today.
Jazz drumming background, Jazz drummers are bad ass🥁🪘
dude, there are incredible, amazing musicians out there today, you just gotta stop looking for top talent on a freaking game show. I am assuming you like blues/Rnb/funk based on this being a Buddy Miles video. Check out Erykah Badu, Mononeon, Cory Henry, Janelle Monae, Esperanza Spalding, Knower, Thundercat, Vulfpeck, Cory Wong, Snarky Puppy, Larnell Lewis, The Fearless Flyers, Jacob Collier, Domi and JD Beck, Knower/Louis Cole, the list goes on, it's just mainstream media sucks for great music, but even someone like Adele is pretty awesome and she's on top of the world.

LETS NOT FORGET..BUDDY MILES PLAYS DRUMMS AND SANG WITH JIMI HENDRIX.....NOW THATS AMAZING.....FACT AMEN
Carlos Santana and Buddy Miles live
His playing and singing on "Machine Gun" is an all time great performance.
1/3 of a Band of Gypsies. .
His singing on that album is so grating. Still one of the best albums of all time.
@@BockwinkleBhis backing vocals were amazing.
I had the 8 track in the 1970s.
Then one day in the late 1980s we were doing a basement video for MTV at my recording studio. The band and tons of hot girls and in walks Buddy Miles. He heard what we were doing and came by. He hands me a cassette of his new project and as I'm playing it I say who is singing ? He says him. The vocal sounds like Steve Perry. I said no way. He turns down the studio monitors and proceeds to sing a capella. Just like Steve Perry. Blew my mind. Then we went into the studio where i played drums and my friend who was a killer guitar player jammed with Buddy and he played Bass guitar. What an incredible memory.
I always find it fascinating when someone is behind the drum kit and singing.
Happy New Year! 🥂
Happy Friday 🥳 Thank you for sharing!
Me, too! It’s quite a skill to keep that rhythm and sing! Although, for me, I find it hard to play anything and sing.😂 Happy Friday!😊💜
@StephanieJeanne It is. That's why I was always a big fan of Karen Carpenter. Karen and Richard are both talented, but Karen was exceptional! Have a wonderful weekend! 💖
Especially doing both well. Not many can do it but if they can they are always recognized. Phil Collins comes to mind as well.
@deadringer28 Absolutely.... he should be mentioned 👌 Thank you for reminding us! 💖
Gil Moore of Triumph comes to mind. But he wasn’t the only vocalist of Triumph.
This amazing song came out when I was a young man it was a huge hit for good reason. It's almost never played on the radio or satellite anymore.
Allow me to state, I play this song ever so often on my Real Oldies Show!
A great song that was also performed with Jimi Hendrix's Band of Gypsys..
Randy A Carlisle // DJ // KSGV-Seagoville Community Radio..

Terrific performance full of energy. There is a great version on his live album with Carlos Santana 😊
Used to love drumming along with that album back in the day... Many years later, Buddy came to a house party at my sister’s; he was blown away she still had a vinyl copy of this LP... Buddy autographed it for her...
The album Buddy Miles and Carlos Santan live in Hawaii and the ass kicking jam on that album is Marbles❤❤❤
The great Buddy Miles 🙏🏾🙏🏾🔥🔥

Don't you shoot em down, and expect to leave here.
He ain't going nowhere
He been shot down to the ground
No way he can survive!!!!
- Buddy Miles vocals at the end of Jimi Hendrix's song Machine Gun..
WOW... what a classic one of the first songs some of us kids learned to play on guitar it never gets old.... Rest in Heaven Buddy Miles!
Damnit! If only Jimi had lived a little further into the 70s
I think disco would have killed Hendrix. Ha! Not musically, but literally, I think his head would have exploded.
Them Changes on Band of Gypsys is one of my favorites to play my bass to. So much fun.
If you like this, check out The Electric Flag album Long Time Coming. It will knock your socks off. One of the best albums to come out of the sixties!
he played with hendrix.
Yes Buddy Miles he was one of a kind.... Always like the energy in his singing and playing🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Use to go see him when he played around Henderson, Louisiana Great Show every time

Jim McCarty Possibly
Don Henley and Phil Collins of course are examples of singing drummers. Rare Earth comes to mind also.
Peter Rivera rare earth
Levon Helm
@@davidmerrill5429 absolutely, I love The Band and his solo work.
I read somewhere that Samuel L. Jackson was asked if he were walking into a room where there was a party, what song would he want to be playing as he walked in? He said “Them Changes” by Buddy Miles. That’s how I found out about this man and I’m glad I did. He’s exceptional.
This is the Rock we love to hear!! 🎼🎭🎸😃
A totally classic!! Only ONE Buddy Miles!!!! Richie Barron/“Dr Tequila”
Pero ....excelente tengo que felicitarte tengo 73 años..y sigo escuchando todo lo que puedo

Buddy Miles, that's a name I've not heard or seen for decades,TMS really had just about, yes, Everybody on stage
Drummers that take the show rock !!!!
Great drummer.
As a child growing up in Philadelphia Pennsylvania my later brother Manny Scretching (RIJ) was a huge fan of Buddy Miles. He was a 2oth Century Master.
Big Bad Sound coming outta a 3-piece
Badass!! ❤ Band!!
“Come On Y’all Everybody!”🎉
is correct - WHEW! 😅
It's great! Thanks a lot!! From BRAZIL!!!
Buddy is one of my favorite drummers: the funk in pop, pure soul and energy, spontaneous and gorgeous!!!!
I'm 46 now but I introduced Buddy Miles and so many others to my friends. And it blew thier heads off
Really great to see young people getting turned on to great music and musicians! 😊
I was lucky enough to know Buddy. He was a great guy and always positively critiqued my drumming. He always gave me great info and pointers. He is truly missed. Thanks Buddy, I'll never forget you.
I love me some Buddy Miles!!!
Big Bad Buddy Miles..
I saw Buddy and his band in 1972 at the Liberty Bowl Stadium in Memphis, probably hadn’t turned 18 yet. Black Oak Arkansas and Three Dog Night as well. Ticket probably cost $5 bucks.
Yeah, Buddy!
Buddy Miles!!! Great Album!!!
RIP to Buddy Miles!! He did the California Raisins commercials back in the day which founded the group NWA to get started!
Man! Never heard of this guy! But, I am
A fan now! Will have to find more of his music. Being a drummer I love to see us singing and jamming at the same time! The guys playing with are baddass also!
Besides founding bands like Electric Flag and the Buddy Miles Express, he did amazing work with Santana and Jimi Hendrix with "Band Of Gypsys" (which covered this song) and also on the Electric Ladyland" LP...his shuffle is legendary, check out "Rainy Day Dream Away/Still Rainin' Still Dreamin", you won't be disappointed.
Listen to down by the river 😊
You missed some good music.
@@janicehughes4370That's my favorite. 😎
Geeeeeeniiiiiiiiuuuuuusss !!!!
Want to talk about Underrated...Buddy MILES played with Carlos Santana...Hendrix & I believe John McLaughlin
Wow!! I was living in NJ at this time playing in an R&B band and this was are opening number!!
Buddy, a gentle kind man. "When talent was mandatory. " --- I agree
I’ve met Buddy a few times, quite the character.
Awesome ❤️
Down By The River....
Loved this song the first time I heard 'Band of Gypsys' Still good in 2024
Excellent! And I loved that kit!
By the way Buddy Miles also had a three wheel chopper motor cycle that matches that drum kit as well
I appreciate the guy on the guitar is trying but without Hendrix this song feels weird.
Buddy Miles was the MAN. This is amazing 👍
DAMN!!! I always knew Buddy's playing was solid as a rock, but his two side men were so tight and fat sounding that it felt like a freight train rolling down the track. Amazing.
This is So Great To See
I liked Buddy Miles when he did this with Carlos Santana and with the Band of Gypsys with Jimi Hendrix.
Having flashbacks right about now. High school, sex, drugs and rock.
What a talented musician I like that Rogers drum kit.
Wow, just stumbled on this video.. This guy is amazing!
There's nothing like a kick-ass 3 piece rock band!! 👍😁
Not easy to play drums and sing like that at the same time.. His coordination had to be next level .. I could barely keep the hi-hat go'n and sing at the same time ! 😝
Buddy is bringing the heat here!
Buddy Miles and band 👍
Thank you Midnight Special for capturing this live performance of “Them Changes” in his prime as we get to relive this moment again and again!
Still love this after all these years
