Man i love the ocean, and I love boats. It is nothing better than being on a boat. Floating atop on this massive body of water. The only thing connecting the masses of land on this planet. The sea is my playground, full of adventure, and full of things that has to be handled, and maintained. So videos like this prepare you, and make you understand things you need in order to keep on going. Thanks for sharing the knowledge!
Hi Chris, new to this and loving working through the videos. Wanted to ask how far you go with keeping spares? For example I’ve just watched you replace the seacocks and the saildrive seal. So do you then buy and keep a spare set of seacocks and also things like the brass fitting off the saildrive that you replaced? If I was crossing oceans and going to remote places I’d probably feel more comfortable having a full set of every fitting and hose onboard, but that’s expensive and is it really necessary? Interested in your advice. Cheers, Dave
Very impressed with your attitude and abilities! Rosella too! I agree with a few other viewers that the daily updates can be shorter and still engaging...have a glass of Italian instead 😉
Hi folks. Just found your series, and well impressed. I really do enjoy these type of films. Keep them going eh.Good luck to you all. Lovely baby by the way.
I have to tell you 16mm nuts and bolts are common here in Canada, big problem is tool makers selling incomplete sets, I have a lot of tools and I still find some missing when I come up again something new, love watching what you are doing, Great work Thank you for sharing Terry
I to have the Volvo Penta 10 HP with sail drive, He was a mechanic everything about the boat is as he stated. The person I bought it off said he had replaced all the sail drive seals. The Engine compartment and sail drive location was very dry. For this coming year he recommended oil changes in both engine and a new sail drive, suggesting sucking it to maintain the cleanliness, so I bought a pump. The anode he said needs changing, the one located behind the prop on the sail drive flange.. My boat is a Verl 790, not quite in your class but its my first yacht!. Do the bolts come out ok if using a six sided socket? Or are they prone to snapping on rotation. Are all bolts right handed? I'll acquire a 16mm socket and spanner. Do we need screw extractors and taps and can one find out the thread prior? If capsized was going to attach two round hoops with a pole strapped to the deck for leverage. Do you have any other recommendations? Tapping the hull with a hammer, we either have a lot of steel ballast or there is water in it. 2 powerful bilge pumps will be handy. and I was going to attach a floatation jacket to the mast. Any easy way to achieve that, the height is daunting! I always envisage the worst and as we all know marine parts are very expensive.. What type of paint did you use on the aluminium sale drive? 2 part epoxy? You will be experience with anti foul paint, can you say which you like?. the yard hauled it out power washed it, it's very clean apart from some minor barnacles. To fully coat all the lower hull, do you keep moving the props, one envisages it tipping over. the keel being quite deep has some rust on would you angle grind it, or wire brush and paint. I want to paint the upper hull also due to some blistering along one side and its been touched up in places. So I'm looking for an epoxy paint there too? I watched with interest at how you approached each job, manageable! Mine like mentioned is the 2 cylinder 10 HP diesel engine? Which is yours, just trying to gauge the weight of mine. Being new to the boatyard some items have gone missing, so how faithful they will be in quoting the price for undertaking any work, well I just dont know! In summer I intend being on it for 6 months weather permitting. Touring the Scottish Isles. Another question, sorry! Free mooring in coves is it allowed if on anchor? Stormy forecasts I'll head for the safety and pay the price. I would value your opinion in relationship to the above. Where boating came from well, A friend had a dinghy and I loved the feel of sailing. On Ebay asked about it and thought go on. I dont like dark mahogany, I have quite a bit of planned beach and am very partial to light wood. All the Upholstery had been replaced, Insulation all around, new toilet and he pointed out also about the stop cocks, a point worth looking into. then perhaps solar panels if the finances allow and shower head and collection tray below the toilet, A lot there to keep me busy. I appreciate your breakdown of tasks and how to approach them! Thank you in advance, I must subscribe! Phil.
I love every second of your films, as someone who has yet to take on all of the jobs you are so good at (on our 1979 Moody) please keep up the great work ! Love the family clips too...watching them is like having a break from the graft and I'm not doing it 😄😄😄...yet.

I subscribed because of this video! ❤️⛵
Welcome aboard! 🙂👍
I am unable to separate the upper and lower units. Working on removing the OMC saildrive my 1981 S2 7.3 to replace with an outboard. Any suggestions?
I’m happy to help you but I could do with seeing the problem. You can arrange a videocall with me here: sailingbritaly.com/videocalls Cheers, Chris
Great video as always. Get some rest mate.
That "seal" is not to keep out water , it is just to make the bottom smooth to reduce drag . Th actual water seal is up higher
Volvo is the devil! Great job!
That's why most people prevor yanmar
Still, nice tip on the plastic stop valve
