Parkland father shreds Nikolas Cruz lawyers for their behavior: 'You should be ashamed'

  • Fred Guttenberg, the father of murder victim Jaime Guttenberg, gave a powerful victim impact statement during Nikolas Cruz's sentencing for killing 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. At one point Guttenberg directly addressed Cruz's defense team, accusing them of admitting to giving the middle finger during an earlier proceeding when they lost a ruling, but refusing to apologize and simply blamed the media for putting it on camera. Guttenberg also called for the resignation of Gordon Weekes, the head of the public defender's office, for his comments during the sentencing, when he asked the judge to limit what the victims could say about Cruz's defense team during their impact statements.

Have you watched TV lately, and noticed the percentage of commercials hawking prescription drugs? Well... Seeing this kid go to the gas chamber is not in the interest of Big Pharma, because if such a spectacle invigorates drug detractors' attempts to prove that such medications cause such actions, the ensuing lawsuits against the producers of said drugs might just multiply his wrongful death judgement by 18 (for this case alone), plus whatever punitive amounts might be assessed. Moreover, it would also undermine the credibility of some of the most powerful companies in the world if it's shown that they knew what their medications were likely to do to a segment of their customers, as well as what that same segment of their customers was likely to do to those around them.

Those poor parents had to sit in the same room as the evil monster who murdered their innocent children follwing a ton of rules. Those defense attorney's should be ashamed of themselves. Their behavior was appalling & the world saw it. I hope everyone of those defense attorney's are under investigation.

It was high time somebody told it like it is. This defence team has behaved utterly reprehensibly. Nobody expects them not to do their job defending that creature. But the defence team lost their humanity (if they ever had it to begin with) while doing so because of their utter lack of empathy for the victims (yes, the families of the murdered individuals are victims too), their lack of dignity in the way they treated the courtroom like a circus (with them as the clowns) and their overall shameful behaviour while court was in session.
Bravo to this father who spoke so well. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I think that Michael Schulman (the New York lawyer, father of Scott, the teacher who was shot), put it best.
In prison, he-, No, IT. It will be tossed around like a pack of condoms or cigarettes until someone decides to wring his neck. He does not deserve death by lethal injection. It's too merciful.

His calmness and class yet delivers a LOUD resounding resentment to the murderer and those garbage lawyers. Well done. I actually cried a bit, I can't imagine what he went through BUT the fact that he turns the hate into love and will help victims have beautiful endlessly loving dogs is wonderful. Every child should have a pet in my opinion, im here as a 27 year old even and my dog is my love and I'd give anything for him. I sincerely thank these families for this unprecedented push for gun safety and child safety, they are all heroes and deserve the world and hopefully we, as Americans, can FINALLY learn from this and protect children.. no child should ever feel trauma of any kind or be told what a shooter safety drill is.. absolutely appalling BUT there's still time to make it better.. its never too late to change the future.

Absolutely *disgusting* to believe they had it worse than the victims families and loved ones. Yes, they should be utterly ashamed. I don’t believe they are though. At least 3 of those defence attorneys should never be able to set foot in a courtroom again. They make Elaine Bredehoft look good
