Peridot tearing up and comforting Steven always made me cry, there's just something about comic relief characters being emotional and caring that I love.
When the comic relief character starts crying, you know you should too.
It was also the first time you see her without the glasses, i remember some people being like, "She has white sclera".

During the part where Steven wakes up and doesn't realize he's still dreaming, his bed is back on the left side of the room from when he was 14, which reveals before the actual reveal that he's still dreaming

Listening to other people's problems for half of every day and trying to help them is extremely taxing... oh hi Steven.
i have a bachelors in psych and idk if its like required by law but yeah its the norm, especially if you work at like a firm (idk what word to use but like if ur not an independent therapist). you talk with ur colleagues for advice and questions/second opinion stuff (and when youre new obviously like checking in with whoevers above u) but yeah therapists see therapists bc you hear a LOT of traumatic and horrible things from clients and its upsetting and it weighs on you and just the stress of the job of like "what if i fail my client, what if i cant help, or what if the worst outcome happens" etc
As someone who is the therapist friend holy fucking shit is steven so deeply relatable in Future. Steven is just like me fr - wanting to tell people about your issues but knowing what other people's issues do to you and therefore you can't let them know anything because you don't want to make other people feel how you feel and have to fix how they feel post you telling your feelings and at this point the only way you know how to interact socially is by fixing other people's problems and thus you wake up one day and realize you don't know how to actually be a friend when your friends aren't falling apart

For me it's more on the "Even if I told you you wouldn't be able to help part". When Steven started saying like " Amathyst acts like she is so mature now, and I can't tell Pearl because she would break down" and things like that...I physically looked away with bitterness and embarrasment :')

I really wish Pearl, Garnet, and Amethyst were a bit more pushy when it comes to helping Steven. But it makes sense I guess why they wouldn't think anything of it since Steven is always the one who helps others.
Plus, they just had an episode where they were doing exactly that and Steven didn’t appreciate it. The gems are much better about listening than they were before, so it makes sense that they would back off a bit after Steven told them he wanted to do his own thing.
it's not because "steven always helps" that they don't push a bit, they don't push because they don't want to be forcefull like they were before, they give him space to think. they ask if he is okay, even after insisting, but he pushes them off, hes not to blame neither are them to blame for respecting his privacy

12:15: I'm a therapist and I can't imagine doing it without a therapist of my own. It takes a toll! We're at minimum heavily encouraged to have a therapist. Some places require it, you're not allowed to work if you're not seeing a therapist of your own!

the graduation episode hit me so hard when it came out like i'd literally just graduated from high school and was in my first year of college and that's such a big transition time. all my good friends moved away out of our small town and everything was changing and it was sad and scary. it still is now that I've graduated college and am kind of lost, my sister and friends still live hours away. it sucks man. just wanna shrink everyone and put em in my pocket, or i wish teleportation existed lol
and then the sadie and shep song comes and punches me in the gut even harder LOL
and god i looove what they did with steven's character in future it makes so much sense. it feels like a natural evolution of his character. this kid whose spent all this time saving the world and protecting this town and experiencing all these traumatic things, this weight on his back. to now when things are peaceful, he doesn't know what to do with himself. he only knows how to fix things. he has to be needed, or.. what is he? does he have worth if he's not helping people?

Steven’s TV powers were foreshadowed WAAAAAAYYY earlier, remember the episode with little butler and Greg and Amethyst? Steven’s emotions caused the TV to cut off.
I wanna reply to you mentioning that a lot of Steven Universe’s demographic were at that similar age of transition in their lives. I watched Steven grow up in tandem with myself, being the same age throughout the main series and into Future. This came out during the early stages of the pandemic so it offered structure in an otherwise chaotic time. I was learning to drive, getting a job, and more at that time. It was so nice to have a show reflect my current life in a way, especially since I’m a people pleaser and a fixer.
- Shep is voiced by Indya Moore who also voices Brooklyn (Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur) & Alamzapam (Nimona), & the instrument they are playing is an EWI or Electronic Wind Instrument
- In Lars’ bakery called “Spacetries” notice that he named his confections with space related puns while 2 of them has song relations as well & the Red Dwarf Velvet Cake maybe also a reference to the show Red Dwarf
- Cactus Steven is voiced by Steven’s voice actor Zach Callison & it shares similarities to Frankenstein’s monster with the fact it was innocent at the start only to get extremely angry after it was mistreated by its creator & it growing rapidly while wreaking havoc like Audrey II from “Little Shop of Horrors”
- “Prickly Pair” is a pun on prickly pear with the pair being Steven & CS, but this was also storyboard artist Drew Green’s favorite episode
- Perl’s friends are Khadijah voiced by Uzo Aduba (Bismuth’s va), Jaime is voiced by Lamar Abrams (Buck’s va), and Brandish is voiced by Deedee Magno-Hall (Pearl’s va) while 2 cram school friends of Connie are Patricia is voiced by Tahani Anderson & Daniel is voiced by Lamar Abrams

I love how this show gradually builds up Steven's mental stress. I appreciate SU Future because it remembers that its MC is still just a kid who can actually feel BAD about what happens in his life, and feel anxious and what-not as he grows up.
I personally find SU Future very essential to the show. It touches on the mental traumas Steven's gone through, which is very gratifying to see. Our boy needs help ):
One of my friends actually broke down watching this series because he could relate to Steven a whole lot.
I thought we would get something a bit more wholesome with Cactus Steven like the Watermelons, and then his trauma carries over to a plant…
Peridot’s episode in Future is top 5 for me. Her friendship with Steven really grew. 💚

Tapes are coming back for a few reasons, but a big part of it is driven by musicians who are finding the sound quality and the limitations of the technology a huge boost for creativity and learning more about your own authentic style. I think, also, cassettes are just more durable than a CD and take up less space as well. A lot of people are trying to migrate back to owning physical media and I think the re-embrace of cassette tapes is part of that. I watched a video by Mandelbro where he made his own album on cassette and tbh it was really inspiring.

I love Steven and Peridot's friendship. They are just awesome together. I mean, Steven was Peridot's actual first friend. He helped her to admire Earth. It's thanks to him that Peridot was able to become her own gem and break free from all the blind admiration for the Diamonds. The dream episode just enlighted that same friendship. Too bad Peridot won't ever want to fuse, because I would love to see a Steven and Peridot fusion. I mean, who wouldn't want to see a fusion that has both Steven and Peridot's respective personalities?

If you rewatch bismuth episodes you can tell that she always had feelings for pearl and it was hinted. Like she got the bouquet in reunited and pearl immediately laughed at the idea
All the local bands including high schoolers, college kids, and older adults, etc in my hometown all promote using cassette tapes! It’s a really cool community thing that I’ve noticed in recent years, and local shops involved sell second hand cassette players along with the tapes to support the local artists! Because of this more people have been coming to their local shows and it’s given a safe space to a bunch of young teens that would normally have nothing to do in a rural southern town. It’s pretty sick!

I think a big part of Steven’s inability to move on is how much has changed without him even being aware. He spent so long trying to help these people achieve happiness and being a part of their lives that the fact that they don’t need him anymore and have all moved on in the brief time he was away feels almost like a betrayal.
13:50 - 13:54 That’s a line from Steven I’m a bit conflicted on, because didn’t he tell Amethyst that she probably became the most mature Crystal Gem after the whole realization that Rose was Pink and when Ruby and Sapphire separated from it? I know it’s definitely Steven’s trauma and conflicting emotions talking, but I don’t even think Amethyst was rubbing it in how grown she is, because she was still acting like her immature self at times but took initiative when things got serious
The vibe I get from Steven is that he's jealous of Amethyst's ability to grow and be more mature about things while still being herself because he doesn't know how to do that. Before, he praised it because he wasn't jealous but now that he is jealous, he's talking bad about it.
It's called being a teenager, you usually don't have the maturity to see that
it was obviously unfair of him to say, but I think it was because all his life he and amethyst were on the same level. when garnet and amethyst didn't "get" him, amethyst always did. but now amethyst is growing more mature than steven, more healthy and stable, and he feels like he's getting left behind by someone he trusted would never do that, and he's bitter about that.
The cactus Steven episode is the reason I have Steven's cactus flower in one of my Steven Universe tattoos! Future came out at a time when I was really struggling in life so it means a lot to me. You guys' conversation at the end about "Steven Universe Therapy" is spot on!

Watching Steven have so many hardships in making new friends with human kids his age that haven't got used to all the gem-related problems was so hard, made me realize how unbalance his life really was. Yes, he had human friends like Saddie, Lars and all the others, but most of the times he was always with the Crystal Gems. He didn't even went to school... although Pearl and Garnet's education for Steven was so much effective that he can get perfect scores on human school's standardized tests. But all that made him to not be able to naturally make friends with other kids. It's a good thing that Bismuth and Connie were there for him to help him.

@@b3yourself91 Peedee seems to be close in age with him. And the two used to be pretty close. But then again that boy is so desperate for his dad's approval that he ended up focusing on the family business than enjoying his childhood. Also... the cool kids seem to be not that much older than Steven (perhaps three years). But yeah, if we consider the human kids with a very close age to Steven and with whom his is close to, Connie has been pratically his only human friend.
Tbf after everything with Lars and Sadie it was a bit of a gut punch that they had to offscreen a whole relationship and not have it work out, limitations out of their hands of course but still. On the other hand Steven's reaction was of course very much not okay, he's trying to fix what's not broken because it's different to what he wants it to be, then upset that things are different when it came to venting to Cactus Steven. The other two were better for Steven given how Peridot and Connie were more comforting presences where things didn't have to drastically change, but it acts more as distraction than solution.
The second hand embarrassment of one of the up in coming episodes specifically is gonna kill H man😅
I bought a cassette player to listen to the "For Sarah" cassette from Over the Garden Wall, and then just started buying tapes at thrift stores and urban outfitters- you can get a lot of popular artists on tape actually, I have Billie Eilish, Mac Miller, The Bleachers...

i had a tape player in my car until 2018 lol so i have a number of them
I actually have a tape casette player, and I have like 8 casettes, but all of them are recordings i've did when I was 10 (22 years ago), like saying jokes, recording samples from tv and so on, so I kinda treasure them in a way, like a time capsule.

I know how you guys feel, and while Steven broadcasting his dreams is a little out there it isn't the first time his powers interfered with TV signals! On season 1 episode 43 "Maximum Capacity" (The one where they clean Greg's garage and Amethyst turns into Rose) the moment Steven steps in to stop Amethyst from traumatizing his dad more and he realizes he's grounded an shouldn't be even looking at a TV, he closes his eyes shut and he TV immediately goes into static; while both these powers are just in the same ball park, it's still important to mention how new Steven was at using his powers
If I'm not mistaken, the season 2 episode We Need To Talk actually shows Rose interfering with technology too- specifically the radio Greg had set up for the failed fusion attempt. It was playing music, but when Rose gets shocked the music player cuts to static
