    20 years ago I went by train from Genova to stay in Monterosso. Next day, train to Riomaggiore, walk the coast path back to Corniglia. Lunch, then train to Vernazza, down to the quayside, then back to the train for Monterosso.
    A truly stunning, remarkable stretch of coast, best walked from south to north (better light and views. I know, I've also walked the reverse).
    Thanks for bringing back the memories.

    Thank you so much for this nice work! Love it!
    Just imagine: All these small tunnels were built in the 1860's / 1870's! Just imagine how difficult and expensive to build this had been.
    Parts of the track had been new built 100 years later. So Bonassola and Levanto have the old track between the town and the sea, but nowadays it's just a street, the new railroad track is situated a bit above the towns. The old tunnel between these two towns is converted to a walk and bike lane - with great views onto the sea.

    • @RailRelaxation
      @RailRelaxation  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @KarstenMeyer I appreciate your comment. The infrastructure is amazing, and yes, it seems almost impossible to believe that all those tunnels were made more than a 100 years ago and they are still in use. Not to think how hard it was to make them. I saw that bike lane in the parts of the old line, I would love to make this journey too, with my bike. It has to be astonishing. I was walking in the hills around the villages of Chinque Terre about 6 years ago and it was just beautiful. Perfect trip.

    Greetings from Salvador, Bahia, Brazil! Your Parts 1 and 2 of the Ligurian coast around La Spezia and Genova are excellent, for sure I have enjoyed a lot. Thank you for sharing us your experiences. And yes, those series of tunnels built at 19th Century was a very hard work without the technology we have today - an amazing piece of infrastructure! For me that is art! That area of La Spezia and Riva Trigoso is full of naval construction also (or was in recent past). In August 2019 my wife and I were at Rome and Milan and we had the chance to ride by train between both cities - it was a good opportunity. Italy is a very beautiful country, with an excellent food, sceneries and full of history.

    So many memories... Regarding the train itself I merely remember the many tunnels. Long long dark, the attraction were than the towns themselves. The Cab Ride shows the beauty of the ride hidden to mere 'mortals' passengers, lacking the view forward.

    Da questo video si vede chiaramente come su questa tratta, fra Spezia e Sestri, non ci sono solo le cinque terre, Levanto, Bonassola, Framura, Deiva sono altrettanto belle. Moneglia è un gioiello, per non parlare di Sestri. In questi giorni si parla con preoccupazione dell'affollamento dei cinque borghi, fino quasi a non poterversi più muovere; un modo per risolvere il problema potrebbe essere quello di,valorizzare le altre località di questo tratto, in,fondo si tratta di pochi chilometri. Forse sono fuori tema ma vorrei richiamare l'attenzione su alcuni problemi di i questa terra, cosi bella ma così fragile. Uno è che i borghi,si stanno svuotando degli abitanti originari, trasformano le loro case in BB e si trasferiscono a Spezia, ma non solo anche a Chiavari. Possono ricavare fino a 20.000 euro,all'anno; ritornano nel loro borgo per gestire questa attività o qualche negozio che hanno aperto. Succede il contario di quello che avveniva prima: dormivano nel borgo e lavoravano a Spezia ma anche a Genova e ritornavano a casa la sera, ora il contrario. Chi si prende cura dei muretti ? Stanno insegnando a farlo agli immigfati. Questo fenomeno degli appartamenti diventati BB si verifica anche a Spezia, trovare una casa in affitto sta diventando un problema. Imperversano i BB. Insomma magnifica terra la nostra, ma vediamo salvarla. Chiedo scusa per essere andato fuori tema.
