Alex Trebek had said on several occasions that Eugene Levy did he best imitation of him.

Lawrence Orbach is my favorite comedic character ever. I could watch a trilogy of films starring this lovely man, yet there are so few skits featuring him.
Denty One Look up Ed Grimley, another great Martin Short character, not smart but sweet!

Just the body language and way he said that made me laugh harder than I've laughed in years,
Alex is ever so optimistic at the beginning of every episode of Half Wits and then it goes downhill from there! 🙂

Johnny Olsen was the regular announcer on many gameshows. Blanche Rae Kellogg was a tribute to Ray Kellogg , a special effects artist and producer/director of films.

Eugene Levy really was the unsung talent on SCTV to me. He always seemed much better and capable than any of the others.
Richard Fuller he was always kind of the straight man although he could be just as crazy as the others.
@@steveleeart I think one of the first SCTV bits I saw, he did this bit here, a gameshow with about six contestants.
O'Hara kept guessing wrong answers, Candy insisted he wasn't hitting the buzzer, Moranis said he could run and get some tools to fix Candy's buzzer, Martin kept having stagefright with her non-English speaking husband.
Seems there were two more, but can't recall them right now. The whole thing hinged on Levy starting out calmly and by the end was a screaming lunatic. It was hilarious.
Then he'd do a Dick Clark on American Bandstand bit, I gather, where he was a total dweeb, and they showed a 'clip' of him from when he first started out in black-and-white and he was an even bigger dweeb of a different era.
I think the next bit I saw that I recall, he was Igor, but with a deep voice and whoever else was there was commenting and all, then said smething about 'that smell' and they looked at him and he simply said, 'must be the chili'.
He was so much funnier to me than Candy, Thomas, O'Hara (even tho she was funny in that game show bit), Moranis, Short (who I never found hysterical), or anything anybody else did. Andrea Martin was okay, but sort of in a Ruth Buzzi, Laugh-In kind of way, which can work, but his shtick just seemed so much better. He was like a much better Gabe Kaplan, who would just be too loud most of the time.
He's the blue cheese stuffed cocktail olive to a perfectly shaken martini.

This is my favourite SCTV skit and my favourite Half Wits skit. I like at the end Alex Trebel(Eugene Levy) goes crazy and tring to ring Arthur Andrew Ligit(Joe Flaherty)'s neck with the buzzer cord and the doctors take him away.

I was sitting the whole time through this thinking if Alex doesn't kill anyone it's a miracle. This was quality comedy. And I am from Europe and has only a very vague idea about who Alex Trebek is. and still I am confident, that this was a good spoof.
He nearly strangled Joe Flaherty's Arthur character.

Lawrence is the same character Short did on SNL's incredible synchronized swimming short film with Harry Shearer. One of my all-time favorites.
I'm not a very strong swimmer.

The clip that introduced me to SCTV very early one morning on the comedy network in 2004. Watching alex get carried off by the white suits had me rolling on the floor.
Hey, I used to watch that on The Comedy Network as a kid, man! I had an adorable sense of humour when I went home from school watchin SCTV on The Comedy Network! I loved Eugene Levy's black hair in this skit.

Eugene Levy definitely looks like Alex Trebek in these, but did SCTV have “artistic license” to make Levy’s personality the complete antithesis of Trebek? I have seen Alex on quiz shows 50 years now, and I don’t ever remember having a “slow burn” OR even worse, a total candidate for a straitjacket!!

I watched these when they first aired in the early 1980's on NBC, and this stuff is still so funny. Brilliant writing.

I'm happy with the Comedy Gold feed of this skit, but I remember it on the ACTUAL Comedy Network in the mid 2000's.
Better than a version I saw a while back from a Cinemax airing but with poor reception.
