The very 1st Savage 99 was actually manufactured for Savage by Marlin. The model 99 is a high quality, well made rifle. The 250 Savage was originally called the 250-3000 because the initial loading was a 25 caliber (.257 diameter) 87 gr bullet at 300 feet per second. It was created to be a rifle you could varmint hunt or deer hunt with like the later produced 243 Win. Later the 100gr bullet was intriduced as it was found to penetrate deer better. A key benefit was that the internal mag prodcued better handling and it could use pointed bullets whereas tube mag guns needed round nose bullets.
@@Spidermonkey2a No problem. If you look at the ballistics of the 250 Savage it compares relatively close to the 6.5 Grendel in performance. The case of the 250 Sav is much longer but it operates at lower pressure so the performance of the 250 is similar to the Grendel. The little difference between the .257 diameter bullet of the 250 and .264 diameter of the 6.5 doesn't add up to much when hunting deer. One is about as good as the other
Spidermonkey2A. Good video. Thanks for sharing about that older gun. Looks like that was pretty high powered for back in the day. Will keep an eye out for that in a future video. Take care.

Thanks for the information. Much appreciated

Have my dad’s 99 in 303 Savage. Built in 1928 or 29. A takedown model. They are special guns, enjoy

Much appreciated 🙏
I think that is a 25 caliber bullet not a 6.5. I would do some measuring and research. 👍
With the conversation it is 6.5. Thanks for watching
