Loved listening to all your tips! I use acrylics and watercolors, so gouache sound like an in-between, so I found the advice helpful all the same! 😊Your portraits are beautiful, and I love how the cool blues here look on the warm toned paper!
Your art and videos are amazing! ❤️ I hope you can make more of these videos, maybe show the process of how you mix the colors before putting them on the page too? It would be quite helpful to see both side by side. Thank you so much. 😬
thank you for this video! even though I have experience in gouache because it my favourite painting medium as well, you can never stop learning and this really helped me out with my piece that I'm currently doing for my A-level so thanks again!! 😄 💙
You make paint look so easy 😭 but I try to paint with paint I have and well I drew myself a little cactus 🌵 I know I'm not a painter 😅 but your paintings look so cool! 💖
Thank you for the video!! Another reason why I believe layering is fundamental for gouache is that layering makes the gouache painting more realistic. Gouache tends to produce flat cartoony paintings/illustrations. Layering and being able to see brushstrokes resembles oil and watercolor paintings which for us artists who want realism is very important!
Yes please share the footage of the purple portraits too! I’ve been working with gouache more & the layering is fun. I’m still struggling with giving up in the ugly phase but find I need to do some “self-talk” to get me to a more finished piece. Trusting what you “see” in the reference photo is an exercise that must be practiced continuously. Particular areas that I have difficulty with are areas that are pivotal to defining the face (all the shadow portions of the nose & smile lines within the mouth/cheek). Any tips you’re will to share are much appreciated! Watching your process is SO helpful. Thank you!
Hi Sarah! So glad this was useful! Yes, I agree with the "ugly phase" and having to do some self-talk to push through- I still get this even though I have gone through many ugly phases with my illustrations. But as you say, the more you do it the more used to trusting the process. I will be putting up the purple faces video too! thanks for watching 🥰
I'd love to see perhaps a real time video of the purple ones - perhaps with a peaceful music overlay!
this is a great idea, I'm always uncertain about doing longer real time videos, but I will do a vid with the purple faces :)
Great tutorial! Always so generous with your advice and soooo clear! Really talented you are!!😊
thank you so much, glad it's helpful 🥰

yes, this is a great explanation! I love the in between of realism and illustration which I feel that gouache captures really well
