I use cold pressed paper as I enjoy the rough finish and the feeling for the brush on that paper. However I do like painting details and you made me consider hot pressed ! Thanks again for the great tips
Love the ending . As the video was going on I was planning of making a diagram for quick reference and future projects. Tuns out you did it for us. Thank you for the help!!
I'm loving to use Clairfontaine Paint on a Grain multi-techniques paper. Its a bit textured, but have a nice weight, so can handle very watery gouache or even watercolor. Love it. And its not so expensive.
Thank you for all the information! So helpful! If you have a video lesson on making our own sketchbooks for gouache, i would watch it! Probably over and over. 😊 Thanks again!
This is my first time trying gouache. Im using a piece of Strathmore 500 Illustration vellum. I guess I'd have to call that my favorite at this stage. We shall see how it turns out. They had some Designers gouache at the local store. Should be fun. Thank you for the informative video. I had a bunch of options for paper and you helped me choose based on my own style.
Thank you so much! I was struggling to find the right paper for me when using gouache. I think I will you cold press watercolor paper. I think it suits my projects the most.
This video is like a you read my mind video! As i am still trying to decide the medium I would like to focus on, and with little experience and common sense, i bit the dust yesterday trying a lot of details on canvas with acrylics and of course it applies to gouache! So I learned this painfully and later today i was planning to go shopping for paper! Great class Cécile! Right on time! 😅 Thank you for sharing. ❤Merci!❤
I’d love to make my own watercolor journal, maybe you can make it a project in our art community at your school?! I think it would be a lot of fun!! ☺️🎨❤
I paint gouache and watercolor on Bristol paper 😂 I use it mainly because I also sketch a lot of detail in pencil and Bristol offers that “mixed media” flexibility ❤😊
Ohh wow that’s a great surprise & lots of valuable information about the various types of papers and whether they are the best papers to use. I was sure that you would have just one type as the best. I am glad you explained what you feel about the difference in papers and the results. So far I have use 25% cotton paper most at 130 lb watercolor cold press papers or watercolor canvas board. Thanks for sharing this wonderful video!😊❤
Thank you ♥ I want to start using Gouache instead of markers. Can I use a 140 GSM Kraft Paper with it, Just for Dynamic Sketching, not a very detailed painting?
I use multiple paper types and styles all the time. I agree it depends on mood. I even use super thin papers and don’t care if there is warping. Also you can use thin papers if you paint with thick paint.
Haha, for years I am pronounced Canson wrong, thanks for teaching me how to say it the French way. I love the Strathmore 400 watercolour series cold press. A nice textured paper of 300gr. The blocks are clued on all four sizes. I also use the Artist Tiles of this brand. A nice square size paper of 6 x 6 in. The paper is the same as the other but only glued on one size, but that doesnt bother me, even the paper gets a little bit wobbly at some point. So you need to press it after some time or after you put on a layer. But as I said before I love this paper and the range Strathmore has.
TH-cam, you need to know about this video -"this is a good one" - and she is a gem!
Rooooo.... thanks a lot! 🥰
Great information as always Cecile! I would love to see a video about making your own sketchbooks!

Mam you are so inspiring please continue this TH-cam channel
Thank you!!! Will do!
Amazing information ❤
Thank you!
Thank you for these clear explanations.
The best solution for me is to make my own sketchbooks with Canson Montval 300 gsm.
🙂
It's a great way to have the paper you like in your sketchbook!
Perfect Video ❤
Thanks 🔥
Canson Xl watercolor paper
Thanks! I add this to my list!
Hi, Cecile! Thanks for the link to this - it explained so much.

Sure! you can paint with gouache on pretty much anything: cecileyadro.com/the-best-surfaces-for-gouache-painting/
Strathmore 500 series Heavy Mixed Media paper is great for gouache
Thanks!

Yes! and even cardboard!
I’m just starting, I think maybe hot press or Bristle.
I find bristle too smooth, it feels like if the paint is not grasping to the paper;
The large portrait in the background- is this Gouache? If so is this a large sheet of paper 300 gsm?
No, it's oil painting on wood panel. I wouldn't paint this size with gouache as it would use too much paint!
Haha, for years I am pronounced Canson wrong, thanks for teaching me how to say it the French way.

I like the Strathmore papers as well, especially in sketchbooks. They are quite expensive here in France, though!
Hi Cecile, I make a lot of sketchbooks and I’d love to make some gouache sketchbooks.
Go for it!
someone at last covering paper for gouache. I hate it when paper buckles.
Same!!!
