    You need to prepare from now to the winter .Buy some wood (cause now in more cheaper),make some compots (home made canned fruits like peaches and apricots , plums ,and pickles too) jams , juices (bottles and jars in a basement is for that purpose ,you need just to wash them before filling .Just re-use them every year).

    Good luck with the wood. We get through 12 cubic metres each winter for cooking and heating and our winters are mild compared to yours. Loving your videos.

    It's sad really sad to see that the villages are getting abandoned. When I was young, people who had village houses went there to see their grandparents and grow vegetables in the summer. But this contact with the village is getting lost with people losing their relatives or in need to find a job. I hope this will start to change, and more young people will appreciate the peaceful life it offers.

      Yes, I agree. This is why we are trying to stick to the Bulgarian ways of growing food, preserving things, and socialising with the villagers. I hope more Bulgarians start coming home 🏠

    You are an awesome couple and the girls are so cute. I believe the basement is essential to keep dry. All the humidity and animal odors go inside your home. It will be great to clean and fix the windows to stop the water coming in. Good luck. God bless you guys.

    As others have said, the heat makes everything that little bit harder to do, and if it has affected your sleep as well on top of working, running after your girls and the animals, then no wonder you're exhausted Laura. Do you take advantage of the afternoon siesta time? We didn't when we lived there before, but I think we may just do so when we move back again.
    Those cookies look exactly like ones I make, and the jam looks lovely - well done guys!

      I try my best to have an afternoon nanna nap but sometimes my schedule doesn't allow for it. I've reduced my schedule to three days a week so I can write in solitude the other two, then take the weekend. The channel 4 thing has been exhausting too. Thanks for your support guys 💖 Hope all is well with you!

    Ideallly the wood should be for winter 2025. It will still be wet for this winter, probably make a lot of smoke in the fire.

      @the_phoenixproject  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We chopped plenty of downed wood last year and it was fine. I think because it's been sitting outside for a long time, it should be fine. They aren't freshly felled trees.

    Hi, Love your posts , isn't it just a learning curve for all of us. We've been here full time for two years but back and forth for many more. We are in Lovech area. From our experience I wouldn't recommend putting plastic down to store your wood. If you have any pallets, tgey would make a better base for stacking or substantial wood laid to support your chopped wood.

    • @the_phoenixproject
      @the_phoenixproject  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's really just a temporary measure until we have time to build something better. Otherwise it would be getting wet outside 🙈 It's also elevated on some old wooden doors for air flow. Ideally we want it outside so it can season/dry properly.

    Yea, were processing wood from last year too and bought a load in late sping when it was cheaper. Then its back to UK next month for our child's visa ,well hand in application, hopefully be ready in a fortnight, we both work online so we can wait a wee while for it , don't want to have an othe round trip too London aaaargh. Have u got ur kids visa yet..?

    You are both incredible warriors and I wish you well. Laura, it can't be easy to be in the middle of this project, with 2 young children, an online teaching job and coping with the heat too. Take care of your health mum as families don't really do so well when mum is poorly. Great that you are preparing for winter as it can be a challenging time. I hope you can create a space indoors to hold a good amount of wood as it's not much fun when the snow is up your jacksy and it's freezing cold and it's slippy under foot blah blah lol :) However, knowing how practical you both are, I am sure you will overcome whatever lies ahead. All the best and enjoying your journey until now :)

    Youve got loads of crates in that basement which will be useful over the years! I'm assuming youve not got a decent wood shed, ours is rammed with what we've taken down and all our outbuildings are full with wood too. Have you had any rain? We are really desperate for water now, the wildfire last week was terrifying.

    • @the_phoenixproject

      Yes, that's our next mission when I'm feeling better! Turf out the basement and store the wood for the coming winter. We are trying to turn the old chicken coop into our wood shed but we'll see what we manage! Yes, lots of rain up here. Hoping you get some wet weather this week! Be safe 🙏❤️

      There's really not a lot of work here for English people. This is why I suggest remote working. You can try to set up your own business but it is very competitive out here with such a small pool of British migrants. It's worth being aware of if that's your plan.

    I saw that abandoned cafe, when I used Google maps I could go back in time to see it in 2012, I tend to have a look around now and then, most places have a date of 2012, but Google is mapping again, so we can see June and July this year.
    I have been looking for property and know most villages now and know my way around most of the country.
    We are down to three houses... It's taken 8 months to get to this point..
    How did you pick your house and why??

    • @the_phoenixproject

      @@the_phoenixproject Im finding there is a play off between remoteness, condition, as well as location. the prices have gone up for the summer and agents can be adding a few thousand. I found a great house ( very little work) but the land is smaller than I wanted, but all the other boxes are ticked. my other half found another property, there were two homes near it, then i found out the pictures were 4 years old and a wall fallen!
      Ive been looking for 8 months now!! getting bored of looking..
      I think you have both done well getting there, the ups and down and getting on with it! well done!
      Have you found getting things you need has been easy? ( building materials, food, pants and seeds)
