At my age I was definitely too young to view pornography and such similar magazines when I can remember cardboard covers in local small village shoppes in the 1990s. Even Mother Angelica spoke against pornography on EWTN mentioning this was a problem even 75 years ago. So it's not even our generation to blame. Not even Mother Angelica's generation but the generation before her. So of course we have been fighting against it. We must continue to fight against it. You need to ask yourself what these desires are and what place they are coming from. Are they desires that come from a place where God is present and his spirit unites love during the physical connection, or do they come from a place that only fulfills a rather fleshly desire as a commodity. A commodity that can be synonymous with other commodities like listening to music or watching movies. In this fleshly desire that commodifies sex, you focus on what you can take from the partner to "fulfill your desire", rather than what you can give to please them as an act of love. Sex is not a commodity because it's purpose is not to take for ones own gratification like a song, movie, or a snack. In the act of marital sex with the one that you love and vow your life to, you give yourself to them and they give themselves to you. You give yourself and expect nothing in return because you love your partner so much, and they give back to you because they love you back. This next point is the number one most important way to think of sex and remember this because it will help understand the difference between good sexual desire that comes from God and bad desire that needs to be forgotten. Every time you think about sex or see someone that you want to have sex with, ask yourself if you were to have sex with this person, would you still do it if it gave you no pleasure, sexual feeling and no other reward like money? If you would still have the sex, then you are in love with that person. You love that person so much that even though you have nothing to take from them through the sex, you have sex with them because they are receiving pleasure. You show your love for them by giving them pleasure. You will feel their love given to you and vice versa. Love is about what you are willing to give to someone else as an action that you deeply care for them. We have grown up in a culture that makes us misunderstand what sex is. The secular culture that tells us that the sexual desires we feel for spousal union need to be fulfilled by having as much sex as possible with as many different people as possible through porn or fornication. Wrong, the desire that we all have deep in our hearts is for love. The commodified sexual desire does not come from the place of God. Sex is just another way to express love, just like other ways of showing love to someone. An act of love like sacrificing your free time and hard earned money to go to the flower shop to buy flowers for your wife. Sex is just another instrument of love, but it is a very powerful one because you give your entire body to another. Step out of your own shoes and enter the shoes of a person who has vowed their life to chastity. A Priest, a Nun, a faithful Christian that only feels same sex attraction... Now understand that the people in these positions also have sexual desire but they also understand that they can love others with instruments other than sex. They are called to love differently and bear witness to fulfillment rid of sex. Rid your mind and soul of the desire to take, and fill it with the desire to give. In this you will find the way for your desire to be fulfilled. Love is not taking, its giving.

This is so crazy. The other day I was taking a walk and randomly began meditating on the part of the beatitudes - blessed are the pure in heart for they will see God. Then I come across this video where you mention it around 11:00. The heart is the seat of desire. The key to the beatitudes is that they are cause and effect. And parts A and B interlock together and tell you what the other one is. To be pure in heart is to want to see God. In other words, the seat of desire, if pure, being the desire to see God leads us to the possibility of seeing God! That's amazing. I understand this on an intellectual level, but I have trouble on an "emotional" level. What I am hearing is that it's not sex with an attractive woman that I really want, it's instead a bloody crucifixion or simply a desire to enter into heave (which in my mind just seems like walking into a really pretty building). What about the disabled men who will never be able to have a family because of their physical disabilities, and are, therefore, left with unmet sexual urges? The apostle Paul seems to be pretty clear on the topic: if you can't abstain, get married, as it is better to marry than to burn. But he seems to assume, for some reason, that every man is able to find a Christian girl who will marry him, that every man is able to support a family, to be able to provide and lead a wife etc. All these things are not always possible for men who have physical disabilities. What does the theology of the body have to say about this issue?
Well I am no priest but I believe St Paul means that it is better to not marry than to marry, but if you can't help it then it is better to marry than risk failing into sin. By not marrying he means giving your life to God fully and maybe even being a monk. Married life, while beautiful, makes you more worldly, you have to worry about your spouse, your children and also the world they'll grow up in. But a monk doesn't have such worries and he can fully devote himself to God. A disabled man can still get married, given he finds the right person who accepts him. But if not I think that becomes his corss to carry. But if God sees his struggle to follow Him and respect His commands I think the disabled man will receive great rewards form God whether earthly or in heaven.

Stating that is a cop out, and goes right in the face of the theology of the body that Dr. Christopher West has been explaining in these videos. If the inability to fulfill one's sexual desires is a cross to carry, and God will reward those who carry it well, then why even have theology about sexual desire? The entire thing could be summarized to "just be abstinent and you'll be rewarded". The apostle Paul doesn't mention anything of the like. Even Jesus states that celibacy is not something that everyone can handle. The Church should come up with solutions for the people who are unable to fulfill their sexual desires the right way, in marriage.
As a non-Catholic who has always struggled with porn and lust, these videos are very helpful. I don’t agree with all of the eschatology (this video especially, with all the Marian dogma) but it does help me view the sexual desire as a good thing, and lust as a misdirection of that good thing to a bad purpose

i’m gonna have to disagree with the point about Mary. catholic presuppositions are being read into that part of the text. reading that passage at face value indicates to me that Jesus is telling Mary she is no longer His mother for He has completed His task and will ascend to the Father. my two cents.
The protestant presupposition is that there is no need for a prime authority in the church, in other words, any person can pick up a bible and interpret it for themselves. However, this cannot be true as it leads to thousands of different interpretations and by extension denominations to form. At the end of the day there is one truth, and god established a church beginning with Peter that we may have a church authority to refer to.

There is no sexual intercourse or romantic love in heaven, but there is intimate friendship, siblinghood, and the union with Jesus. Men and women will still enjoy each other's masculine and feminine character even without sexual intercourse. There is no childbearing in heaven, but there is a name and place better than sons and daughters and an enormous family in Jesus. The desire for sexual intercourse and childbearing will pass away and you will enjoy the other things of heaven without feelings of deprivation for the things you once had desires for.
Sexuality is not dirty. It's something to be enjoyed. It's wrong outside of the commitment of marriage because it devalues the experience into something casual. Inside of marriage, have all of it that you want.
I think the focus should be that the primary function of sex is procreation. Fornication, or watching porn, or many other sexual outlets, is about putting pleasure over having kids. If having kids is the primary intention, you should be married. And then within marriage even sex which does not directly lead to pregnancy can still be enjoyed as part of the bigger picture of procreation, because the pleasure creates a bond between the parents and thus helping to maintain a strong family unit. There's nothing dirty about that. It just has it's proper place.
In case someone else has not already described this to you, I wonder if this kind of analogy below could help you to not see the former as “dirty”, despite affirming the latter as a sin… Regarding our appetite for food and drink, truly fulfilling our hunger/thirst does not merely end at the part, where we put the food/drink in our mouths and enjoy the sensations of chewing/swallowing it. That part is just the tasty intermediate step in a wider process, which actually ends with the body absorbing the calories/nutrients/water into its own flesh. In turn, deliberate “binging-and-purging” is universally agreed to be an eating disorder and abuse of food. In that case, a person may be heavily indulging in the superficial pleasures of eating/drinking, yet is denying their own bodies the very nourishment that it actually hungers/thirsts for in the first place. Moving on to the physical appetite for sexual union, perhaps think of it not merely as an appetite for the act of sex itself (any more than one would say hunger/thirst is merely an appetite for the act of chewing on tasty things). Rather, think of that act as the intermediate “tasty” step in a wider process, which ultimately ends with the body becoming “one flesh” with a mate (similar to how literal hunger/thirst is about feeding your flesh with the food/drink you just chewed and swallowed), in order to maintain a lifelong bond with and possibly have children with (the body is even wired to undergo a rush of hormones like oxytocin during that activity, which promotes bonding). With habits like “hookup culture”, people are generally trying to enjoy the superficial sensations of that union on demand, only to then metaphorically “expel” their partner and potentially move on to another partner shortly afterwards to repeat the cycle (like someone with that eating disorder wanting to expel the meal they just ate, so they can immediately enjoy eating another meal in the same period, or at least not commit to the nourishment the previous meal would have provided for their bodies). With that in mind, I do not see how affirming the latter as a sin would automatically suggest the former is “dirty”. That is, any more than rightfully calling out “binging-and-purging” as an eating disorder would automatically suggest the enjoyment of food and drink at its core is “dirty”.

The secular culture that tells us that the sexual desires we feel for spousal union need to be fulfilled by having as much sex as possible with as many different people as possible through porn or fornication. Wrong, the desire that we all have deep in our hearts is for love. The commodified sexual desire does not come from the place of God. Sex is just another way to express love, just like other ways of showing love to someone. An act of love like sacrificing your free time and hard earned money to go to the flower shop to buy flowers for your wife. Sex is just another instrument of love, but it is a very powerful one because you give your entire body to another. Step out of your own shoes and enter the shoes of a person who has vowed their life to chastity. A Priest, a Nun, a faithful Christian that only feels same sex attraction... Now understand that the people in these positions also have sexual desire but they also understand that they can love others with instruments other than sex. They are called to love differently and bear witness to fulfillment rid of sex. Rid your mind and soul of the desire to take, and fill it with the desire to give. In this you will find the way for your desire to be fulfilled. Love is not taking, its giving.

This is so crazy. The other day I was taking a walk and randomly began meditating on the part of the beatitudes - blessed are the pure in heart for they will see God.
Then I come across this video where you mention it around 11:00.
The heart is the seat of desire. The key to the beatitudes is that they are cause and effect. And parts A and B interlock together and tell you what the other one is.
To be pure in heart is to want to see God. In other words, the seat of desire, if pure, being the desire to see God leads us to the possibility of seeing God! That's amazing.

I understand this on an intellectual level, but I have trouble on an "emotional" level. What I am hearing is that it's not sex with an attractive woman that I really want, it's instead a bloody crucifixion or simply a desire to enter into heave (which in my mind just seems like walking into a really pretty building).

What about the disabled men who will never be able to have a family because of their physical disabilities, and are, therefore, left with unmet sexual urges? The apostle Paul seems to be pretty clear on the topic: if you can't abstain, get married, as it is better to marry than to burn. But he seems to assume, for some reason, that every man is able to find a Christian girl who will marry him, that every man is able to support a family, to be able to provide and lead a wife etc. All these things are not always possible for men who have physical disabilities. What does the theology of the body have to say about this issue?
Well I am no priest but I believe St Paul means that it is better to not marry than to marry, but if you can't help it then it is better to marry than risk failing into sin. By not marrying he means giving your life to God fully and maybe even being a monk. Married life, while beautiful, makes you more worldly, you have to worry about your spouse, your children and also the world they'll grow up in. But a monk doesn't have such worries and he can fully devote himself to God. A disabled man can still get married, given he finds the right person who accepts him. But if not I think that becomes his corss to carry. But if God sees his struggle to follow Him and respect His commands I think the disabled man will receive great rewards form God whether earthly or in heaven.

If the inability to fulfill one's sexual desires is a cross to carry, and God will reward those who carry it well, then why even have theology about sexual desire? The entire thing could be summarized to "just be abstinent and you'll be rewarded". The apostle Paul doesn't mention anything of the like. Even Jesus states that celibacy is not something that everyone can handle. The Church should come up with solutions for the people who are unable to fulfill their sexual desires the right way, in marriage.

There is no sexual intercourse or romantic love in heaven, but there is intimate friendship, siblinghood, and the union with Jesus. Men and women will still enjoy each other's masculine and feminine character even without sexual intercourse.

It is difficult not see sexuality as dirty if fornication is considered a sin.
Sexuality is not dirty. It's something to be enjoyed. It's wrong outside of the commitment of marriage because it devalues the experience into something casual. Inside of marriage, have all of it that you want.
I think the focus should be that the primary function of sex is procreation. Fornication, or watching porn, or many other sexual outlets, is about putting pleasure over having kids. If having kids is the primary intention, you should be married. And then within marriage even sex which does not directly lead to pregnancy can still be enjoyed as part of the bigger picture of procreation, because the pleasure creates a bond between the parents and thus helping to maintain a strong family unit. There's nothing dirty about that. It just has it's proper place.

In case someone else has not already described this to you, I wonder if this kind of analogy below could help you to not see the former as “dirty”, despite affirming the latter as a sin…
Regarding our appetite for food and drink, truly fulfilling our hunger/thirst does not merely end at the part, where we put the food/drink in our mouths and enjoy the sensations of chewing/swallowing it. That part is just the tasty intermediate step in a wider process, which actually ends with the body absorbing the calories/nutrients/water into its own flesh. In turn, deliberate “binging-and-purging” is universally agreed to be an eating disorder and abuse of food. In that case, a person may be heavily indulging in the superficial pleasures of eating/drinking, yet is denying their own bodies the very nourishment that it actually hungers/thirsts for in the first place.
Moving on to the physical appetite for sexual union, perhaps think of it not merely as an appetite for the act of sex itself (any more than one would say hunger/thirst is merely an appetite for the act of chewing on tasty things). Rather, think of that act as the intermediate “tasty” step in a wider process, which ultimately ends with the body becoming “one flesh” with a mate (similar to how literal hunger/thirst is about feeding your flesh with the food/drink you just chewed and swallowed), in order to maintain a lifelong bond with and possibly have children with (the body is even wired to undergo a rush of hormones like oxytocin during that activity, which promotes bonding). With habits like “hookup culture”, people are generally trying to enjoy the superficial sensations of that union on demand, only to then metaphorically “expel” their partner and potentially move on to another partner shortly afterwards to repeat the cycle (like someone with that eating disorder wanting to expel the meal they just ate, so they can immediately enjoy eating another meal in the same period, or at least not commit to the nourishment the previous meal would have provided for their bodies).
With that in mind, I do not see how affirming the latter as a sin would automatically suggest the former is “dirty”. That is, any more than rightfully calling out “binging-and-purging” as an eating disorder would automatically suggest the enjoyment of food and drink at its core is “dirty”.
