I think she should own it. I'm personally not a fan, but she seems like a genuine, good person. Who cares if she took some prescribed medication and maybe had a drink or two, to loosen up (not realizing that it would hit her like that and make her "loopy").
People who have neurological disabilities or who have had head injuries can appear to be drunk. Look up head injury documentaries. If she is adamant that she has never been drunk, then I would have to believe that she has something neurological going on. There is a reason for her behavior, but I'm not going to sit there and judge her as being a drunk when there might be something else going on.
@@lolavelmar2996 I guess it turns out you're wrong. Now that she's admitted to abusing pain medication and drinking. Yes there are people with the problem you described but it's clear this was not the case with her for at least and I say at very least it was compounded by the abuse.
She might be taking medication that interferes with her abilities to be fully present. I remember when I was taking high doses of gabapentin i would be slow to respond and just stare at people and close my eyes really weirdly... it was medication side effects i think its more her meds maybe
Known worldwide for her pop music career and role as a judge on the talent search television show “American Idol,” Paula Abdul said in interviews in 2009 that she guarded an addiction to prescription painkillers for over a decade.
She wore a patch that delivered pain medication 80 times more potent than morphine, (Fentanyl) she revealed. She also popped muscle relaxers, had trouble sleeping and would sometimes "get weird," she said.
I believe her, the older I get the WEIRDER I get, as my family says. An eye doctor years ago took 45 minutes looking into my eyes and said I had some kind of nuerological disorder
I had no idea she had even been in a crash of a jet that put down in a corn field it seems. She is still amazing, even more so now I that I discovered the injuries and what she went thru. She has my serious respect. And I still love to see her perform.
I know someone who gets like that when they are tired- very loopy... she’s even getting that way now. It sucks being sober bc I have never drank and to be accused of it just sucks
Paula is speaking honestly! Ive tried so many meds to try to manage CRPS... I thought i was doing better probably had 2 weeks of good sleep which was 10 hours granted it was tossing and turning throughout the night but i consider it good sleep compared to last night when i went to bed at 11 and woke up and stayed up from 1 to 4 am not being able to sleep and this is EVEN with muscle relaxers...i got up at 8am and stayed awake now its midnight my hands hurt as hell as i type and i feel insomnitic already... the last 2 days i havent been able to sleep
+Kimono Humiliated on Idol and humiliated during her prime in the '90s it took her four years to release her last album because she was battling with her weight people criticizing her as a performer and artist OVER HER WEIGHT! Between her Promise of a New Day music video and her MTV performance for Vibeology I feel so awful for her, Paula your music is irrelevant so long as you put on weight like really... shaming her for being a drunk and on drugs is one thing if you're addicted to that stuff it's your own fault but I felt her eating disorder/weight struggles and the criticism over it was absolutely petty and disgusting how dare anyone shame her for that
I actually believe her. I get SUPER weird and act weird just from missing one night of sleep, and I probably seem drunk to people. I'm afraid to drive when Im that tired, because I feel like I can't control my movements as well and lose hand eye coordination. I can't imagine that plus taking nerve meds, plus all those spinal injuries that mess up your nervous system. I've known plenty of addicts and they act differently. I feel bad for her.
here is the thing I actually believe her because I have a bad back with nerve damage and it is so hard to find a good spot were you can fall asleep, your constantly moving around and I sometimes go 3 to 4 days without 5 minutes of sleep sometimes and when I have to work or see a friend they think I'm drunk or on drugs, I had family and friends sit down with me asking me to go in to rehab and the Gods honest truth I don't do any drugs. the sever pain and nights of no sleep like messes with your head to the point your almost sleep walking and sometimes you will have no clue of the things you've done or said the day before. I can honestly believe her. but unlike her I do take powerful sleeping medicine to try and sleep which most of the time wont help. and I'm also a performer, I sing and do tours.
i have MS, diagnosed 15 years ago, and have suffered from chronic Insomnia for almost 30 years , and I'm the first to say sleep deprivation will get you to a point that where you come across as 'loopy" or "messed up" and there is very damn little that you can do about it.. thank the Gods for things like Ambien. It helps, but comes with it's own problems,,,
She is hurting real bad. It´s obvious. I don´t think, that she is happy about where she is in life. I think, that what she wants the most is a good husband, kids and a happy life- and now she feels, that it is too late and that she failed as a woman. which is not true. I feel her pain and it makes me sad. Hope she is doing better now and more at peace with herself. Not too late to get clean. You can adopt after and love is never too late to find. Just blossom on your own and bees will naturally come your way. You can still do and have anything you want to.
some of you guys need to let it go. If Paula was on heavy meds for her RSD, so be it. Do you expect that because she's some huge superstar she'd be able to deal with the pain without any problem? No! She's human, let's not forget, just like us. If you had a severe injury/problem like she did, you'd do whatever you could to get rid of the pain too. Paula's such a giving person and she honestly deserves more than what some of you people give her. You treat her like shit! And for what? For being
She did nothing wrong! She was hurt and yes she struggled, but she stood her ground and stayed strong! I dont care what anyone says she is the bravest woman i know and will always be the bravest woman i know! She has been through so much already just leave her alone yes there will be times where she will need help but when she says she dosen't , she doesn't! So yes she is the greatest woman i know! DONT JUDGE BEFORE YOU KNOW!
...And NO, it's not insulting to say that people with it are loopy a lot. They are!!! In order to cope with the intense severity of the pain, most people are on a huge combination of very heavy drugs!
I physically had to take a shit, right after her said " I've never been drunk, or addicted to pills" Now if that isn't real shit , I don't know what is.
I agree with you I have suffered from chronic pain for 20years (even though i'm only 31) because of fibro, pcos, ibs, cfs ect I am always in agony and with out my daily pain meds, I wouldnt be able to have a normalish life, So I agree she do have chronic pain from her medical condition and she takens meds for it, it's only her who know's how she is taking them..
10:52 I'm just saying you hear her in her own words say im off every single... That kinda seemed like she slipped up and was admitting at one point she was on opioids.

@MrsMollyMalloy Unfortunately, it's a common occurance with CRPS because so few doctors know much about it, including many specialists. It takes years (for the few family and friends that stick around) to scratch the surface of understanding what it's really like. The insomnia and wear from the incessant pain make you loopy and emotional, but it's the nerve blockers that make you the most loopy...

Now stop wasting your bosses time, 'hatin' on youtube, and get your ass back to work!! Reply ·
Thank you, Paula, for inspiring so many people, myself included, to follow their dreams, believe in themselves, and achieve personal success and happiness.
Puala Abdul, is beautiful lady, a marvellous talent, and singer and choriographer, she has worked very hard to hone her craft as an entertainer. I don't feel she needs all the crap she is getting from all the critics that are trying to tear her down. I say go head on, Paula.
What I dont understand is how was she able to hide that she had a bad accident like that when back then she was a major star and the press would find out.hmm something stinks here.
Whether Paula Abdul has Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD) is for her doctors to decide. But her behavior, speech patterns, antics... are NOT SYMPTOMATIC of RSD. Nor are they characteristic of Alcohol or Drug use or abuse. Over time the body would become tolerant of the effects of drugs/alcohol & they learn how to 'act normal', which Paula never has! Her flamboyant mood swings & changes in temperament, her narcissism, constant commiserating & need for adoration, special treatment, sympathy, pity... All suggest a Psychiatric Ailment such as a Personality Disorder or Bi-Polar Disorder. This is likely in addition to the incessant, intractable PAIN - every hour of every day associated with RSD. Since this is an old recording, I hope her doctors have properly diagnosed her & she's receiving appropriate treatment! 💕👊
@lgbtTV4 If ppl in the entertainment industry find out that you're seriously ill, you're career can be nixed for good. She was able to do the show without ppl knowing for a long time. Unfortunately, the disease progresses. When it does, meds for MOST sufferers have to be strong enough to make you loopy just to take the edge off of the pain. When you're losing so much to an illness, it's very difficult to give up more. I think she held on because she didn't want to lose her career for good.
- We love you Paula Robyn, I've worked with addicts and depressives for 20+ years and love means looking at evidence objectively. Show me one expert who says RSD causes the bizarre behavior she has. Even her own doctor doesn't say it in this report. My husband, a psychiatrist, said that it's an insult to RSD sufferers to claim that they act that way. Maybe it's a reaction to her medication, and not alcohol or drug abuse, but something is going on and denial won't help.
Human?!!? Bullshit. None of what happened was Paula's fault. She didnt plan that injury, so screw the people who accuse her of being high or dunk when she can't help it. Most of you loved her 20 years ago and now you can't stop calling her names. It's so ignorant. She's the same as she was when straight up came out lol!? If some of you people cant see that, that's on you.
I am ill with the SAME disease she has! Sometimes my drugs affect me more, sometimes less. I often have a difficult time speaking, stringing together sentences, w/sounding very spacey and slurring: When I'm tired, the drugs aren't covering my pain, OR I've been constipated for a few days, so they've built up in my system (and these drugs cause terrible constipation, so it's a constant battle), or I've been so nauseas from the drugs I've not been able to eat much so the drugs aren't diluted...
I don´t bellieve her. I think that she has used alcohol or taken some perscription drugs, and that she was addicted for some time. I think she is a wonderful lady, but she needed help to cope with some of her issues/problems.
Because it's an invisible disease, ppl who suffer from CRPS actually have added physical pain because friends, family, doctors, and the world constantly do things that add to the pain, becaause they CAN'T understand how painful it is. Last month the person I am close to was seriously injured by a doctor who specializes in CRPS, by making a mistake that is considered "101" of what NOT to do to a patient with CRPS. The error worsened the condition signfigantly...
Sadly, she's lying. Too bad. She's since come clean. Dancers sustain horrid injuries and easily become addicted to pain Rx (Prince, Tom Petty, Jeff Conaway, millions of others) -- . AND entertainers bring a whole bag of tricks emotionally, etc, under tremendous pressure, to their work so they often self-medicate to take the edge off.
@MrsMollyMalloy A LOT of doctors who treat patients with RSD know very little of what it means to suffer with RSD. There are very few RSD doctors who are worth their salt. If you've ever cared for someone with a serious illness you would know that doctors can be VERY wrong. As someone close to a sufferer of RSD, slurring, loss of train of thought, wooziness, being prone to emotional outbursts, etc...can absolutely be caused by the medication used to supress the symptoms of CRPS!
@MrsMollyMalloy Or articles written by sufferers and doctors. Many on how difficult it is to endure a life with Pain, nerve blockers, insomnia, painkillers, nausea, vomiting, constipation, immobility, loss of friends, independence in grooming and every other daily activity of life, family, ability to work or be well enough to have an outlet for expression. Basically, why it's called "the suicide disease".
@SashenkaFr Because the performing world is ruthless! They need to be able to count on you consistently in order to make money off of your name. It's an unfortunate evil of the business that many performers have had to hide their illnesses, which of course increased the suffering. Many people who were considered "great", "top of ther pack", were thrown away like tissue because word got out that they were ill, and they were never able to revive their careers. It's not a fault, but another cross.
first of all i myself have a chronic disabling illness so i am NOT insulting sick people, i AM sick people, and i know what very strong medications can do to a person, so in a sense i am insulting medication, lots of people who take strong meds act a little loopy sometimes.and yes i do believe she has RSD, and when you stay home for being sick the world looks down on you, i would know!
..Oh, and to compare a recurring sports injury and RSD is ridiculous! RSD is the most severe chronic pain illness, it's in a league of it's own. Of course it's difficult to describe, as for most it's burning pain, nerve pain, sharp pain, like an axe is breaking your body, etc... But they know that it's far worse than first time childbirth without painkillers, and having a limb amputated without painkillers, except the sensation is constant! It can be in one limb, or over the entire body...
@MissJessyeNorman Okay, I get it, she's in pain. Does that give her license to make life unpleasant for her co-workers, audience, producers, etc? When I'm sick, my employers tell me to stay home. Especially if I can't perform my job. Paula's job was to be a judge and give interviews. She wasn't able to do that in some instances. She deserves no more sympathy than ordinary people, especially since she's rich. Would you accept that behavior from a doctor or teacher?
Maybe a split personality and addiction to drugs or drinks and moments being clean of i guess but don't know. Back when she was a pop singer she was awesome
@44044kts I know! Im a huge saula fan btw and i think either she should go on x factor or he should go on live to dance with Paula. anyways i felt so bad watching that she looks like she was about to cry!
While Paula did give Cynthia McFadden this interview, I felt that this was ABC's ploy to hit her/hurt her once again due to the fact that John Quinones could NOT destroy her nor American Idol....
@MissJessyeNorman That's untrue. Hollywood has great sympathy for its ill members, often increasing the sick person's stature. Some notable examples are Dick Clark, Suzanne Summers, Michael J Fox and Christopher Reeve. The last three got more publicity and interviews for their illness than mediocre careers. I can give plenty of other examples. In fact, critic Marc Berman wrote that failing celebs often exploit illness and addiction to get publicity, i.e. reality shows.
robyn126 > The Jason Castro thing is SO OLD now. Its called confusion No, it's called critiquing yesterday's rehearsal when she was paid to critique the live performance that just happened, In other words, she wasn't doing her job and was trying to cheat the audience. The only confusion was that she wasn't able to pretend successfully this time. By "confusion," are you saying that it was okay for her to read notes about the rehearsal? If we didn't see the rehearsal, why would we care?
cocaine :( She can barely get 2 words out in a row within any given sentence without stumbling & her jaw goes lop sided a lot like coke addicts. I feel for her & hope someday she will come clean and more importantly, BE clean.
- the pressure is huge Robyn, What pressure? Deciding what to wear? She gets paid a lot for doing almost nothing. It's not like she has to rehearse or do research before each show. Nor does she keep the show moving like Ryan. And her comments are mainly supportive and repetitive, without any real info. Where exactly is this pressure? Most people would kill for her "job." And why would she want to continue? Fact is, Idol renewed her fame which allowed her to do an album, jewelry, etc.
She seems really drunk in this interview, and all you people making excuses about neck injuries and whatnot need to give me a break... Why is it that some shows she seems perfectly, charming, lucid and normal and other times she is clearly drunk or high on something. If she lives on the same meds why does she seem inebriated some times and other times fine?
@cutemikey oh sorry, and how do you know if she is or not is on drugs? are you also a psychic? Can we just all leave the poor girl alone, what has she ever done to you guys?
Paula Abdul is an EXTRAORDINARY woman :)) Like her very very much.

Maybe it's a reaction to her medication, and not alcohol or drug abuse, but something is going on and denial won't help.
She's a crazy, delusional, substance abusing liar. But God I love her.
I’m sad for her here, but happy she owned it snd got help later on.
Paula Abdul is an Legendary💕
💃🏽Much Respekt to Her.
Human?!!?
Totally believable. Maybe a little quirky cause she's Jewish like me. But one incredibly talented gal.
I don´t bellieve her. I think that she has used alcohol or taken some perscription drugs, and that she was addicted for some time. I think she is a wonderful lady, but she needed help to cope with some of her issues/problems.
I find one of her song's rush rush, quite rather good, am not to sure about all the other rest
The nerv medicine can make you very dizzy.
I don't know of course I'm not in her daily life but from seeing what it's showing I'd say she has at the least been drunk a time or two.
Sadly, she's lying. Too bad. She's since come clean. Dancers sustain horrid injuries and easily become addicted to pain Rx (Prince, Tom Petty, Jeff Conaway, millions of others) -- . AND entertainers bring a whole bag of tricks emotionally, etc, under tremendous pressure, to their work so they often self-medicate to take the edge off.
and oftenly mix it with alcohol...
SHE DOES NOT SLEEP... PEOPLE!!!! She has insomnia also I heard she's a workaholic?🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Paula claims she has never been drunk or high. She has a neurological condition called RSD. Give her break.
Basically, why it's called "the suicide disease".
i love paula!
It's not a fault, but another cross.
this screams painkillers.
I honestly believe that she is simply exhausted.
If the masked singer usa added a judge like this it would be at least watchable.
They added her to masked dancer
"faced the cruelest scrutiny..." THEN COME IN SOBER!
Paula seemed so messed up on American idol now in 2022 she acts normal and looks younger
first of all i myself have a chronic disabling illness so i am NOT insulting sick people, i AM sick people, and i know what very strong medications can do to a person, so in a sense i am insulting medication, lots of people who take strong meds act a little loopy sometimes.and yes i do believe she has RSD, and when you stay home for being sick the world looks down on you, i would know!
..Oh, and to compare a recurring sports injury and RSD is ridiculous!
Paula, I love you. :)
Why is she lying she has been drunk or on pain medication.
I've watched maybe four or five episodes during it's entire run. Got more important things to do.
She should have asked Paula,...if you don't drink and you're not on any pain killers, then what are you on!!!!????🤷
All what Paula said is totaly true!
robyn126
> The Jason Castro thing is SO OLD now. Its called confusion
No, it's called critiquing yesterday's rehearsal when she was paid to critique the live performance that just happened, In other words, she wasn't doing her job and was trying to cheat the audience.
- the pressure is huge
Robyn, What pressure?
If she lives on the same meds why does she seem inebriated some times and other times fine?
even in this interview she sounds intoxicated. not saying she was, but it sure is uncomfortable listening.
I believe Paula 100% .... I've been there.
At least you admit that. Most addiction "professionals" think they know everything about drugs and most of them don't know shit!
I forgot to answer....NEITHER!!!!!!!!
@cutemikey oh sorry, and how do you know if she is or not is on drugs? are you also a psychic? Can we just all leave the poor girl alone, what has she ever done to you guys?
plotting, scheming and editing.. oh my. total denial. i don't even believe her plane crash. what scars is she talking about? oh paula.
And what you can clearly see her doing on the videos is definitely something she didn’t do.?? She is in denial big time.
all this ridiculous speculation.
ok...I'm done.
Sheri~
P.S. I had written more, but it got lost in cyberspace.
Theres a story behind every person and a reason why theyre who they are. Think about that before you judge someone
this is very very true.
Wow Cherye101, your comment has Negative 20 thumbs down. Take a look!
The interviewer 😂
Reminds me of Diane Sawyer and Whitney
