It always intrigued yet terrified me, mainly cause I was paranoid that the more time I spent in there, the more likely the humongous squid corpse lying in the tank opposite the screen would suddenly jerk alive and pull me in. I don't know if the exhibit's still there, but great animation. Honestly just had the biggest nostalgia trip.
These animals fill me with awe. Just imagine, an animal that maxes out at 67 feet long, who dives up to two miles (!) deep, tracking and eating a bonafied sea monster, the giant squid, surely a living nightmare!

A research diver described being in front of the whale when it does a single click for sounding/depth measurement, saying it was like being kicked in the chest, loud as a shotgun. They are REALLY cool animals, but unfortunately harvested for not only the fuel oil in their skulls, but Chanel and other high-dollar perfumes use ambergris as an essential ingredient. Ambergris is a tarry substance that builds in a pocket off the whale's rectum...... squid beaks are very sharp, rock-hard, and extremely slow to digest, so they're stored in that pocket where the breakdown to ambergris can take years. That tar is detectable in the most expensive women's perfumes, and likewise, the researcher smelled the newly extracted tar during examination of a dead sperm whale and could associate it with the perfume.
You're right, but just know that nearly all nations (including the European ones) who use ambergris get it from either already dead Sperm whales or by getting it washed up on beaches. Fun fact, ambergris is worth more than its own weight in gold.
*Not quite an accurate representation ... but close.* *A more accurate scenario would be 4 or more whales, all diving and clicking together ... each receiving information back from the echoes of the others ... all whales constantly physically touching each other ... And all sharing the one or more giant squid caught by the hunting party during that dive.* *But good job showing how a single sperm whale ... maybe a large, adult bull ... might hunt on his own.*
squid : 11 meters, sperm whale : 18 meters, blue whale : 27 meters ..... I'm living on eighth floor and their longings are like my floor's height. I can't imagine how a moving creature can be long like that. I should add 'See the giant marine organisms on the spot' for one of my life goals.
Sadly the giant squid live too deep to record and it would be too dark. And if they were to use a bright light it would probably scare the whale. So we may never get footage of these battles unless we develop some really good texhnology
Andre Harper-Rosenberg, although squid would try to fight back, it would still end up getting eaten, unless it escaped because all that of squids drowning whales are speculations
