I've got a '93 with only 133k miles on it...great car. EVERYTHING works, including the air suspension everyone seems to pull out and swap to coil spring. I replaced the leaky rear bags with brand new units, and the fronts are still going strong. New solenoids are only about $20 each and come with all the o-rings you need. Simple to work on, and the comfort and performance of these cars, even 20 years later, is amazing. Mine absolutely leaps off the line and will bark the tires in 2nd. Great cars. You don't see these on the road too often anymore.
I've got a '94 with 70k miles. Previous owner put the coils in, which I appreciate. I used to own a '93 with the air ride, and you'd be surprised at how close the coils ride is to the stock air struts. Both have that nice soft sway. My '93 was constantly slammed in my driveway because my bags couldnt hold air overnight. I'd have to put jackstands under the car so the car could pump them back up. And if your air compressor goes out, it's a considerable expense, as far as I'm aware.
Killian O'Donnell you can get new air compressors for like $200, and it's an easy swap to replace. Mine had the same problem, it wouldn't hold air overnight in back. Replaced with two new Arnott rear bags and it's good to go.
I had a 94 model with over 300k on it that was beat to shit and abused by the previous owner. It was on air at least, and the car was very quick. I broke a ball joint while driving right after pulling into a driveway, the same way I did on my 92 Thunderbird which is the mechanical brother of the Mark VIII. I had to get rid of it, with too much to fix and everything was totally fucked up. I found a mint 98 LSC later in 2020 which I have now with 64k miles all options moon roof and the rare heated seats, and the air ride is fine. Upper ball joint boots are ripped, so I am going to redo the whole front end and use performance bushings. Word to the wise... dont ever fuck with the ball joints by neglecting them on this car.. if they are worn, change them out or they will break while driving which can be catastrophic! I have no plans to convert to coils.. there are some cheapo brands for air shocks now and I hear mixed things, but the Arnot air bags are not as easy to find now. On eBay you can get air shocks for around $50 a piece brand new. The compressor will last forever if you make sure the dessicant pack is fresh, since its the moisture that fucks the system. If any of the air ride lines are getting old, its a good idea to change those out and use new solenoids. I plan on lowering my Mark soon by adjusting the sensors myself. Finally.. the 93 models are the fastest because of the tune, and have the desired 1 piece driveshaft. Even though they have 280hp and 3.08 gearing, the first gen models 93-96 moved better because of the tune, and also the intake manifold is different. On 97-98 the manifold is kind of shitty and doesnt flow well, and its a design flaw, so the engine doesnt rev as fast and accellerates a bit slower despite the 3.27 gearing. These cars love boost, and the internal engine parts are very strong and can handle 600hp or more.
I'm looking for a mark viii as we speak....I bought a 2016 mks....best riding car I've ever had...I slept on lincolns...never again...that mark viii is the truth
Those were good times for Lincoln. I really miss all those cars (Mark VIII, Continental, Town Car, even the not so successful LS). They gave Lincoln a real life breathe back in the day.
Don't forget the sub brand Mercur, with its cool Scorpio and xr4 t i models. They had to be sold alongside Lincoln's because of the cost of importing them, but the Scorpio sedan was better in every way than the Lincoln Continental, they just mismanaged it with the silly name and other practices. If they just made these Lincoln models sprinkled in with the All-American versions, it would have been more successful for everyone.
This car was ahead of it's time and in some cases way ahead of it's time. It had a phone voice system was the sync of it's time in which no car in its class had in it's day let alone years after. It's service program was the On-Star of its day, many car companies in its class or higher didn't offer that package. A truly great car for its day.
My brother has a pearl white 1993 Mark VIII and he drove the hell out of it and it stood up to the tests of time. Even now, people tink that its a 2000 model vehicle.
oh when this beauty came out in late '92 it was somthing else. teacher in H.S bought one, black on black, in the spring of '93. I had to go see it and marvel.. would still buy one now. secret luxo cobra. he he he.. and hot rod mag put a small note warning rodders to be aware of the new hot rod lincoln that same year.
They should have offered these with manual 5-Speeds or 6-Speeds. Probably would have easily beat a Mustang GT. Also might have thrown BMW and Mercedes a little more competition.
I remember when they first came out with the '95 Aurora. I was amazed with the radical, futuristic styling. 12yrs. later now, I still think it's a beautiful, futuristic looking car. Well-styled cars hold the test of time.
Wow!! Thank you for adding all of this!! Fantastic. I have this video. If GM did not exist, I would be driving Lincolns. I am a huge fan of Town Car and the Mark series(except for Mark VII).
I loved this car since i was little. i am 17 and i bought a green 1993 Licoln Mark VIII for $1000, My father has a red one, and my grnd father has a 94 white one. we are going to take the drivetrain out of mine and put it im my fathers Because my car runs but is rusted out and his runs but not well but has no rust. I want to get a 1998 Lincoln Mark VIII LSC
@MassMan67 It does rule. i owned the first year of the Mark, now i owned the 97 lsc i still just love it, specialy with my kendwood touch dvd/mp3 player ,garmin navigation. pearl white chrome wheels. LOVE IT!!!!!
we had one of those, a black Panther edition, man some car. Only reason we traded it in was that Ford has a policy not to provide any more spare parts for cars over 12 years old. We would have had to spend a couple of grand to bring her up to snuff. We traded her in at the local Mercedes place and I understand one of their mechs picked it up pronto.
Hola sr este es un señor carrazo muy hermoso y muy distinguido y además este carrazo se destigue de los demas carros saludos desde mi país de México hoy 6 junio 2019
@Killzor420 my previous owner replaced the bags with coil overs because of the harsh climate of the midwest, and we practically drive on salt in the winter. i think it 500 for a bag, while its 300 for a coil over
Mike Honcho i know this is a 5 year old comment, but two brand new rear bags with continental contitech rubber were $200 this year (2017) and two new front air struts are going for roughly $300 on eBay. The solenoids and everything else are so cheap it doesn't make sense to swap to coils and lose the ride quality offered by the air system. Arnott offers replacement compressors and driers, etc. Mine only had had rear bags go bad so I changed those and the o-rings on the solenoids and it was good to go. I'm also in the midwest, Chicago to be exact and the car has been a Chicago car it's entire life. Amazingly little rust.
That's truly horrible, my condolences. I've heard about the massive recall ford had because of the cruise control switch, do you know if the fire only happened when using cruise control or if it happened randomly?
This car is based on a stretched Thunderbird chassis, and the Thunderbird is very acceptable for a 6ft tall man to sit in, so in the back of a Mark 8 while his head may brush the roof he will be very comfortable for lengthy drives. He won't be crossing his legs or stretching out, but he will fit very comfortably. Even if the driver in front of him is also six feet tall. One handy feature in the market is when you fold the seat forward to get out, it electrically returns back to the preset position, so when you get back in the car you don't have to worry about the front seat coming back and crushing your legs. It remembers the position and retains that until the driver changes it with the buttons. And when you fold it forward to get out it not only folds forward but the entire seat rolls forward on its rails to make it very easy to get in and out of.
I have a '94 with 129,000 miles. The only problem I have with it is the leather on the seats is too thin and has split. I get lots of compliments and people cant believe its a '94.
@BL8DRUNN3R find a stock integra with power seats, power windows, leather interior, abs, traction control, independent rear suspension, digitally controlled heater/ac, cruise control, power adjustable mirrors, and a premium sound system all while having a 0-60 within 7.5 seconds
I wanted one so bad!!!!! By the time I could afford one, I discovered that german cars were only a little bit more money and they last well over twice as long.
Nope, they had the STS comminf out which would prove to be one of the most beatifull and popular luxury can made. they didn't even try it compete with this.
I have always thought these were beautiful cars. I'm a sucker for sexy, revolutionary styling of the early 90's. Also the '95 Olds Aurora, '95 Buick Riviera, '92 Cadillac STS, '93 Dodge Intrepid, '94 Chrysler LHS. All automotive eye candy for the time. Cars nowadays seem to be getting more and more generic in styling. You can't tell a Hyundai from an Acura now. Good for Hyundai. Bad for Acura.
Spare me! Comparing the Mark VIII to your girlfriend's cheesy '94 Accord? LOL! Get serious....it is like comparing caviar (Mark VIII) to codfish (Accord) Marks RULE!
@johnekgun That's true my 93 jsut had such a fast pick up, but my 97 dont have that! though it has vtech engine. it dont have that rapid take off like the 93 thru96 model. that's ok, it fast on the highway and smooth on the turns.
Except with a much more sophisticated engine, a larger and much more comfortable interior, the trick air bag suspension that lowers the car at speed, and so many more options that just couldn't be had on the Thunderbird at any price. Thunderbird is a great car, but they made sure that the market was a distinct and High Step upward.
hey..my dad has this car its in mint condition...it has 50,000 miles on it..and its mine now,,it needs a new batery and will be runnin really soon..can you guys message me about upgrades to it..its a 1995 black mark 8...pleese help me.....and is it nice..cause my friends say thery pieces of shot...hahaha just cauuse its ugly...but lincon are the shit so it must bee goood??right??

one of the most innovative cars of all time

Sure wish Lincoln could regain it's status as it had with this car. I had one and it was techno-amazing!
just bought me one last week.....BEAST!!

Have this car. It's been great. Air ride was junk, but my dad replaced it with springs. Love this car.
The gentleman's Mustang, more like.

Nice video, great modern classic car. I own a 94 model, best luxury car I've ever owned.
The best lincoln ever made hnds down.
proud owner of a 94' mark viii. is a beautiful car. everbody jus stairs at you when your cruisin around.
They should have offered these with manual 5-Speeds or 6-Speeds. Probably would have easily beat a Mustang GT. Also might have thrown BMW and Mercedes a little more competition.
I have a feeling this is the video you would watch at the car show on a TV right next to the car on display. Talk about EXHILARATING!
So why comment? This is obviously a video that people who like older American cars would watch.
And yet you did anyway.
I remember when they first came out with the '95 Aurora. I was amazed with the radical, futuristic styling. 12yrs. later now, I still think it's a beautiful, futuristic looking car. Well-styled cars hold the test of time.
Actually, that shot that starts at 0:15 makes the car look like a more rounded version of the previous model.
Wow!! Thank you for adding all of this!! Fantastic. I have this video. If GM did not exist, I would be driving Lincolns. I am a huge fan of Town Car and the Mark series(except for Mark VII).
Great car!
the cleanest looking v8 engine mass-produced pre-1994?
I have 94.... Love it
They did bring back the Mark class this year

YEAP THATS MY BABY RIGHT THERE :')
For being a 1993 model car it's pretty advanced tech wise...
Awesome! Do you have anymore Ford introduction videos?
How's the space in the back seat
westayfly231 Lincolns are not family car, they're dad's expensive toy.

My 2000 Mustang had the same steering wheel
Its a nice car, because its different, They should bring it back.
Great vid
STILL A BEAUTIFUL CAR.
THE VIDEO EDITOR MUST HAVE BEEN PISSED AT THE VOICE ACTOR BY DROWNING HIM OUT WITH MUSIC.
I wanted one so bad!!!!! By the time I could afford one, I discovered that german cars were only a little bit more money and they last well over twice as long.

It's not the outside that matters.

a car... with dangerous curves! woo!
Spare me! Comparing the Mark VIII to your girlfriend's cheesy '94 Accord? LOL! Get serious....it is like comparing caviar (Mark VIII) to codfish (Accord)
Marks RULE!
Sadly these reviews get personal.
But honestly, look at what Lincoln offered as the last gasp of a luxury sport maker, halo car.
@johnekgun That's true my 93 jsut had such a fast pick up, but my 97 dont have that! though it has vtech engine. it dont have that rapid take off like the 93 thru96 model. that's ok, it fast on the highway and smooth on the turns.
93's were the fastest, with 94-96 close after... 97-98's had a newer intake manifold which chokes the engine and it doesnt rev as fast..
I say a luxurious thunderbird with a cobra motor lol

The interior is too bland for a luxury car. They should’ve added some wood accents or something. It’s too grey....

defective cruise control switch can kill you, RIP my son.
