all you have to do is drive one of these cars once.....just once, and you WILL understand why we love our Mark VIII s, I have 2 of these beauties. The best car Lincoln EVER made! So ahead of there time, they could bring them back with little changes, and they would still be ahead of the rest
Thats why they never will. This era of car was magnificent. Most of yhe 90s automobiles were basically trouble free and satisfyingly beautiful. When your in them, you dont want anything else. Gm and Ford were on it. Car companys don't want people this satisfied anymore. They want you trading cars every three years. I owned a mks and ats and i have never been as satisfied as i am in my buick park avenue. I love this car and was in college and broke when it came out. But i wanted one so bad.
The refreshed Mark VIII and the last generation Acura Legend are two great examples of cars that still look good today. (although you see less and less of them)
To clear up some of the misinformation in the comments for the Mark VIII: The curb weight is 3,765 pounds (it is NOT a 4,000+ lb. car). At least two comments mention a 7.9 sec 0-60 time which is completely bogus. MW timed the LSC at 7.0 sec, and Consumer Guide tested a '96 model at 6.8 sec 0-60, and in the Consumer Guide test the Mark VIII beats the Lexus SC400 by half a second 0-60.
@coandcaiv ford greatly understated its actual 0-60 times. contemporary road magazines got to 60 in the mid 6 second range. quite good for its day and still no slouch.
They must have had Motor Trend provide the performance numbers for this video, almost 8 seconds to 60? The LSC was fantastic and easily in the mid to high 14's.
I love the video and I love the car! I feel very honored to have owned one of these fine cars and wish that they would build another! A dream to drive and own
My Mark viii would have a 0 to 60 time of 7.9 seconds only if 5 large people and a trunk full of luggage were on board. Subtract a little more than a second, and you have the true 0 to 60 time.
Gen II's are slower, about .5 off from a Gen II, and this car is a base model. They may have done this with the traction control on, while great in theory, it takes too long to recover from to use it in a performance test (as they don't hit the rear brakes like on Gen I's, only lower engine output)..
Have you seen the new MKS or any other Ford/Lincoln for that matter? BLIS w/ cross traffic alert, active motion seats, radar-based park assist (unlike Lexuses 50% effective camera based one), EcoBoost, Sirius Travel Link, and SYNC are just a few examples of all the tech and luxury options you can get from Ford/Lincoln that the competition can't match, let alone beat.
You do realize that catalyic converters can go after a while, and the whole concept is that they are filled with specific precious (meaning expensive) metals that cost a lot. So $800 for catalyic converters isn't that much, and replacing them on a 10 year old car isn't that unexpected.
i have a mark7 with 302 love it to death cant wait to get my hands on a mark8 hope i can find one that a little old lady had and sells it ford was at its prime then now its the mkz mks mk lt no mark no merc cougar no marauder those new cats at ford need to be fired and let me run it i'll bring back the cat....
these ain't bad off the line @ 7.9 but I can pull off an even 8.0 in my 98 continental, Mind you it IS a front wheeler which helps it off the line, and I only carry 260 horses under the hood, *( when I'm not pushin an extra 20-30 with octane booster!!! heheheh )
0-60 in 7.9 seconds?? what type of bullshit is that? At the slowest the were in the upper 6 second range. 93 was the fastest, and 0-60 in the lower 6 second range. My 98 LSC does it in the upper 6 second range

Amazing TH-cam videos can even be 13 years old now
Oh my god...I ordered this video when this car came out. Thanks for bringing back the memories....

Seriously.ive owned 2 of these and I'm already 17.. had a first gen 1993 and I currently own a 98.just drive one.youll fall in love
EXACTLY!!!! HAD ONE AND SOLD IT, THEN REGRETTED IT
I don't know why I've watched this four times, but I have.
Last year I was at the Ford Nationals At Carlisle. There was a guy who did a convertible conversion on a 1995 LSC. Looked great, took home a trophy.
This is more of a 2007 than 1997 kind of car... I want one.
I Think Lincoln should Re-Introduce the Mark 8.....but don't change that pretty Exterior too much!
seriously...that's one Beautiful Car!
I've had my 97 LSC for a year. It is a great car.

Gorgeous car
I wish Lincoln would make convertibles nowadays.
For real I have a 64 continental convertible, it weighs 5800 lbs
Those were nice back then...

I'm sold.
I love the video and I love the car! I feel very honored to have owned one of these fine cars and wish that they would build another! A dream to drive and own
@coandcaiv They severly, underestimated the 0-60 speeds, it's a good 6.7-6.9 then the lsc had atleast 6.5-6.7
ya I'd love a 98 LSC i have 2 93 Mark VIIIs
the Mar VIII is my favorit car
Lincoln Mark VIII Was & Is A Great Looking Coupe To Behold in Base & LSC Trims
I have this video!! Thank you for posting it here! I added this to my favorites.
The 90s were excellent years for automotive design the world over.
LOL I have a 98 with 180,000 miles. The car's value is literally $0 and Ford doesn't give a flying f.ck about them anymore. But I love my Mark VIII.

+Terrence Simpson Prove it. It should theoretically do 0-60 mph in 6.2 seconds. But I still want you to prove it lol.
I'd still buy this over any of their mk lame.

No, only Mark VII and Mark VIII Air suspension was bad... the air suspension used on Crown Vic/Grand Marquis was superb and lasted 200-300K miles....
The only "ricer" luxury coupe in the Mark VIII's class in 1997 was the Lexus SC400, it was 1 second faster to 60, but not nearly as cool as the Mark.
Sounds like this is narrated by KITT
Awsome post as much as you can. If you can't work on your own car you shouldn't have it.
3:33 this reminds me of thunderbird 2

@IMediaCorp we do indead :)
0-60 was about .9 off of reality.
Smart man!
And it was American too. Nowadays it seems that Mercedes and Infiniti are in the high-tech car business.

Although I do admit that Lincoln has its share of advanced gadgetry, I'll always have a bias for European vehicles.
7.9 0-60 not according to john davis on motor week
these ain't bad off the line @ 7.9 but I can pull off an even 8.0 in my 98 continental,

i'll buy one for 50k who's selling it? lol. jk but great car. Do they have a commercial for 1996 lsc? first gen?

The statements are so awkward
If you haven't driven a Volvo lately, look again :)
yeah but that car weighs 4000+ lbs. so 7.9 secs isn't bad for that heavy of a car
