I remember mixing Deltron when it first came to market when I was working for Paint Place. I still have my own custom colour that I made, I call it Metallic Red Tulip. 😎👍 Your blue is very reminiscent of Ford Blueprint and Shockwave mixed together. Nice colour Howard. 😘👌
A1 probably one of the best videos for anyone that wants to start out painting preparation doing a Car or anything up thanks PPG and Howard for that video I’ve been painting things for years and I still learn things metho and water is a new one thanks
That blue is an amazing colour and it makes sense around the science behind the colour. Merry Christmas to you and your family Howard hope you have a great break
Hi Howard it has been very educational on how you approach a build of this quality for top 60 car thankyou for all the effort you and your guys put in each epsiode. Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄 🎁 and a Happy New year, hopefully I can meet you down at the summernats 34.👍
Great vid Howard 👌👍i like the look of the color layed over the bar , i worked in a old panal beaters and back then it was filler over steel the tech has come along way anyway merry Christmas 👍👍looking forward to nxt yr
Love the blue! Great work guys. Reminds me of the factory metallic blue they had on the XB's. My first car was an XB Fairmont 6 cyl in that colour. This pops WAY better! 👍
Excellent colour choice mate, it will really suit the shape of the car - can't wait to see it. Great episode all round. Merry Christmas to you and the family, enjoy the Nats.
Makes it look easy. That's a great colour. This process is exactly what I did with my last resto and it's a no brainer. Had panels in bare metal for months with dioxidine and zero rust. Filler over bear metal doesn't end well. I don't understand how anyone can skip etch.
Should call the colour Astill Blue. Cant wait to check out the progress of car at Summer Nats. Gotta see the Astill Blue in person. I know it will be colour sanded & polished. I reckon there should be a Straight from the Gun car section at Summer Nats.
Thats a great blue colour, glad you guys talked about fillers, I have a panel I had to leave for awhile in bare metal and filler, another top episode merry Christmas and a happy summernats👍🏼
Amazing colour....I had a bet with a couple friends that this would be blue like XBOSS was (obviously in a different hue). Will look great on a sedan! You shirt logo was the colour all along Howard haha! Excellent info from 2 of the best blokes in the biz!
Will look very schmick when done. Nice choice. Have a very merry and a safe new year to you and your loved ones. Stay safe from the other numptys on the road in the break 👍
Won't make it to the nats, happy holidays to the team & can't wait for further vids on the build. Has been awsome to see the progress on BOSS XC. and the xtras is a added bonus
My favourite color is Blue nice choice , When you mention silver a few weeks ago for the bar throwing people off where you being seeking about it , LOL. .. Anyway have a great Christmas family and friends see you next year , Cheers ..
In my fourth year in the trade I spent 3 years after work doing up 84 vk commodore I still have the car I was in love with the 71 XY GT HO falcons I painted the commodore in Electric blue ford GT colour all in protec cheaper Version of PPG and did it turn out nice I also fitted VE side lights in the guards she had the 304 v8 Summernats 25 was a blast in that car
Awesome as always loved it beautiful colour magic, Merry Christmas to you and your family and all the best for 2022 cheers KC Cradle Mountain Tasmania Australia Always watching 👀👀🇦🇺🇦🇺🤝🇦🇺🇦🇺😎🙂👍
When you paint a car do you aim to paint the whole car in one go or can you break it up into sections? If you have to get more paint is the colour consistent. I saw a show where they didn’t have enough paint and had to get more in and they were concerned that the two tins would be slightly different even though they were listed as the same colour. To avoid any issues with any variations they mixed both tins in together. Might of been Boyd Coddington.
If it a iridescent, glass or candy it better to do all at once on the car. If I have more than one tin then I would mix them together for sure. Even mixing the colour correctly in the tin each time can make a difference. If you need more paint always go back to the same shop.
Hi Howard with the de-shining you do are you just epoxying the inside then putting the skins back on? example the under the fold? Or is there more to it is the epoxy enough to seal the inside of… say a door where water gets in and drains out???? Been watching all the old episodes great channel…. jak.
Hi Jack, we normally paint the inside with 2k or a rust proof paint like POR15 before assembly of the doors. With the bonnet and boot they are 2k in the finish colour as some of it is seen when completed.
Great video, love them Only thing I wonder is what’s the correct prep when putting filler over the epoxy. I’ve scuffed with 240g and put filler over and at times I’ve heard scuff with 500 only.. just wondering what’s correct? 😁
So when he gave the bumper a coat of that beautiful custom blue mix, was that base coat straight off the gun? or did that have a coat of clear over it? because it looked very shiny if it was only the base coat!!
Hey mate, Merry Xmas. Watching every upload with excitement. Just a question, will you Flowcoat with HS clear or are you colour sanding and cut/polishing? Been a while since I've sprayed Deltron, colour looks the goods👍👍. Even though I work for a competition brand of refinishing paint, I must admit hats off to PPG for the Vibrance Range. Some amazing products. Can't wait to see her all together. Once again Merry Xmas and have a safe and Happy Holiday from me down here in NZ.
My uncle painted my car in deltron. It wasn't cheap. But the price becomes irrelevant after a year of restoration. So many factors as well. All that prep, the big dollar gun and not to mention the top end spray booth.
I recall the very first car I saw your name attached to back in 88 I think around the time Blobak was featured in Street Machine. I was 16, now 48 so forgive my memory (loads of weed back then) was it a deep red XA?
Love the work Howard and the technical support from PPG but the colour is a little plain ( my opinion) seems every 3rd car is blue! Anyway have a great Christmas and enjoy the nats!!👍
Every single time I have used deoxidine before epoxy I have had trouble with the epoxy sticking. I have made sure I have removed all the residue from the deoxadine with water, metho and prepsol. I have been dead against using it for many years because of this. I can’t get it to work for me no mater how i try. I have had to remove epoxy from whole cars because I could scrape it off with my finger nail
The Epotec data sheet recommends treatment with 971-9119 protec metal conditioner. Epotec is a polyamide cured industrial epoxy used for structural steel, metal sheet, gal and zinc coated steel, masonary, brick and concrete and fibeglass. The vibrance epoxy is isocyanate cured Epoxy and is designed to work with dioxidine. Cheers howard
That is a beautiful colour, I can’t wait to see the whole car finished

Full colour sand and polish
Nice !! Reminds me a Lot of Ford Shockwave. More Vibrant though.
Right on!
A really informative video and quite interesting, enjoy your Christmas day mate!

There is a PPG restoration guide which is very comprehensive. I have followed the processes and they work perfect.
I will have to look that one up
When you paint a car do you aim to paint the whole car in one go or can you break it up into sections? If you have to get more paint is the colour consistent. I saw a show where they didn’t have enough paint and had to get more in and they were concerned that the two tins would be slightly different even though they were listed as the same colour. He goes alright.

Reminds me of the blue colour on the 63 falcon boot emblem. Nice colour.
Yeah good point
@@AstillDesign a lot of the old emblems and badges had that glow in the blue colour. Was very nice. The decals of today just don't have it anymore.
Great video, love them
Only thing I wonder is what’s the correct prep when putting filler over the epoxy. I’ve scuffed with 240g and put filler over and at times I’ve heard scuff with 500 only.. just wondering what’s correct?
😁
The first 8 hours after application there is no need to sand. After that red scotch brite (360) is sufficiant or 240-320 paper
Love the colour, going to look awesome even though I'm not a Ford fan the build is brilliant
Loving these videos
Glad you like them!
That color is nice....👌
thanks
So when he gave the bumper a coat of that beautiful custom blue mix, was that base coat straight off the gun? or did that have a coat of clear over it? because it looked very shiny if it was only the base coat!!
The base coat was with the blue gun and was just base coat, then the clear went on after. It was a very full wet coat of base coat.
Hey mate, Merry Xmas. Watching every upload with excitement. Just a question, will you Flowcoat with HS clear or are you colour sanding and cut/polishing? The car looks great and I don't mean to be critical but wasn't another high end Falcon painted close to this colour. XBOSS.????
The owner requested a dark blue, when you see this colour in the flesh it a long way from XBOSS.
Always able to explain things in layman's terms 👌 Great color as well 🔵👌🔵👌 Howrad. Enjoy the break mate 🍻🍻
Thanks 👍
Chrome bumpers would of looked great with that colour.
yeah maybe next time
Can't say I would go all the way to Summernats to see a rear bumper. But good for you.
That was not the intention, but the least I could do for those that are going to get a look at the colour in the flesh.
Looks close to the factory audi blue....sepang blue
🤔
Love the work Howard and the technical support from PPG but the colour is a little plain ( my opinion) seems every 3rd car is blue! Anyway have a great Christmas and enjoy the nats!!👍
Fair enough! But the owner say's he want's blue and he's been planning this for 10 years. So we have come up with a blue that fits the bill.
💪

Eastern creek training centre.
