    What an awesome episode. I must admit that I’m very biased given how much I like the effectiveness of Dutch kickboxing. As a guy with mixed training in various martial arts, I found Dutch boxing to be Occam’s razor of martial arts. Fusion of western boxing and low kicks from karate, with focus on body conditioning, body shots and low kicks.. it’s magnificent

    123 low kick comes straight from kyokushin, although in kyokushin the body hook is often instead a shovel uppercut to the sternum (shita zuki). either way the principle of slamming three punches and ending with a hard low kick was and still is a very fundamental kyokushin thing

      Dutch kickboxing is quite expensive especially in mikes gym netherlands since that is were the very best kickboxers of glory like rico verhoeven badr hari and gokhan saki train in the past plus dutch kb is the only thing that could rival a martial art like muaythai since other kickboxing are trash also if you practice dutch kickboxing i suggest you should practice some boxing punchess aswell so that it could supplement your dutch style kickboxing

    Hey Gabriel love the content I've learned a lot from your channel. I was wondering if you could do a video on how to defend intercepting counters for examples a intercepting cross that counters a low kick, or a low kick that intercepts your opponents high kick, or a cross thrown with a slipping movent that intercepts the opponents cross and many others.
    I know a lot of these intercepting counters and love to use them but I'm wondering how to defend or avoid these types of counters when there being used against me.

    Gabriel, when practicing on the heavy bag, do you start your combos at close distance, or is it better to start out a bit farther and "step in" to the combo? I ask because typically you won't be standing close enough to your opponent to throw a combo unless you first step in, or at least step in with your jab.

  • @HeavyBagDiaries
    @HeavyBagDiaries 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    In combo 2, should I return to my full guard between the jab and the hook? Or should I just throw my hook shifting the weight of the body, right after the jab hits? Thanks

    • @GabrielVargaOfficial
      @GabrielVargaOfficial  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Either is fine. Just remember without the full return to guard
      1. you are faster
      2. you are more exposed for counters
      I adjust in the moment based on what my opponent does

    Hey Gabriel, one thing I struggle with is when I get hit I put my guard up and guard everything. However after they hit a combo or they keep going, I kinda don't know what to do after and just go for a shot that I think I'd hit then I get countered. That invites even MORE shots knowing I don't look confident in my own technique. It seems every time the pressure is on me I always seem to almost freeze up while I guard especially when they're bigger than me. It is very frustrating and demotivating because I've been doing this for a year and I'm getting caught easily by some of the newest guys. Maybe I'm not built for it I don't know

    • @GabrielVargaOfficial
      @GabrielVargaOfficial  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This is hard stuff to dial in. You can get there but proper drilling is required.
      I'll try to get some more video up for that. And my upcoming defense course is going to have a section dedicated to that.

      I got pretty far in amateur boxing when I was younger. I did MMA years later after I got out of the military. I broke my back and it ended my boxing career. Also natural Talent has a lot to do with it. Some people just don't want to spar and fight as well. It really depends on the person, in my opinion. Also it depends on what gym you're at. You need to be at a good gym.
