Can you please do a collab with jeff chan. You guys have completely opposite styles. Technical spar. Share ideologies. Critque each others style. Share how you would solve the puzzle of his evasive unorthodox style. And see how he would go about dealing with your unrelenting pressure style with near zero openings. I have no idea what a spar between you two would even look like. Almost seems paradoxical.

my problem isn't even the fear of getting countered. I'm a very kind person and I get worried a lot for people getting hurt, so everytime I see an opening I pull my strikes, and even trying to I just can't do techniques with speed and power (not a lot, just enough for proper technique). this means that I'm constantly shelling up and hitting people like they are made of paper. even on occasions where I took a lot more punishing than I was giving I just couldn't respond in intensity, I just... fear hurting people lol. which is pretty stupid considering they are a lot stronger and better trained than me. it's just that deep emotional lock of being unable of dealing damage to people, even if it is in a controlled way and aiming to improve them. I fear this makes me a fun sparring partner but terrible if you are trying to improve. I hope I could challenge people more and put more power in my strikes, but I'm still working on it. eventually I think I'll get used to it and be able to adjust my intensity, and to just trust my partners more

Dude as an experienced muay thai practitioner, i see this a lot in beginners i work with. What i do is i tell them to hit mw in the face, hands down, not hard, but hit me. To let them know that this is ok, and i can take it. Controlling your power comes with experience, and you will get there.
My tip to you is work with 16 oz gloves, and try to spar with people with head gear. Tell them before you start to let you know if you throw hard. And just work, don't throw hard but don't hold back on speed and technique. You will find the sweet spot and go down to smaller gloves.
15 years of experience here. Good luck mate😊

@@ItamarvhVahnish I have had to do the same many times. It often happens with girls, but not exclusively. People are shy of hitting people, they'll intentionally target your gloves or pull short instead. Or miss.
@gustavogoesgomes1863 you have to understand that it's not actually you being "nice", it's simply subconscious fear of retaliation. Take a good friend, and hit each other on the body, hit for hit, asking to be hit a bit harder every time. It sounds a bit like bdsm, but it helps condition the mind.

im 120kg and im the biggest dude at my gym, Im just like you, when I spar people at like 70-80kgs obviously they have better cardio, more speed, but I am way to slow if I dont throw hard, but ofc im not gonna throw hard out of the blue, so I usually act as a massive punching bag with slow punches lmao

I once had a (retired fighting) coach who when I asked him about a specific novel technique chuckled yes giving away my secrets … Gabriel is like that prioritising teaching over keeping his secrets what a legend. I’d love to see a crossover with Sylvie von Duuglas-Ittu, I think that’d work awesome. She’s very focused on building a library of Muay Thai techniques from all the great fighters and could bring those perspectives. Anyway loving Gabriel’s stuff legend

    Notes:
    1. Move head off center line, with hand protecting the side of the head when entering the pocket
    2. Single low kick with guard up, instead of full rotation with arm swing
    3. Thai hop + long guard: to enter the pocket to throw combos or clinch (beware of uppercut)
    4. Lead leg roundkick: kick with head leaned back, retract to same position, NOT stomping forward

I’m a bigger guy and I find disguising moves helps a lot. Using feints and the jab to smother the guard and hide things (especially kicks) helps a lot. I also use the jab into a switch kick which has been landing great for me lately against smaller faster guys in my gym.
Feints jab to lead hook, feint a rear round kick to theep.
And just getting used to being hit a bit helps also. Using it as a way to motivate you rather then getting hit and covering up/shying away.

*I like to switch stance sometimes cause I punch faster (not stronger) with my left hand for some reason, but because I kick so bad with my left leg, I usually avoid using it and stick to the right side, but most opponents are right handed, so you'll end up getting punched to the side by their right which can be more painful when using southpaw.*
