"How popular was SNSD when they were in their golden age?" Recently, a Korean online magazine mentioned the popularity of "NATIONAL GROUP", GIRLS 'GENERATION. And compare it with the popular Girl Groups today such as Black Pink, Twice and Red Velvet specifically as follows:
1. The South Korean idol industry has always been oriented towards boy groups. But during SNSD's "Gee" and "Genie", boy groups were defeated and vice versa, people were attracted to SNSD. During that time, ALL IDOLS CANNOT WIN AGAINST SNSD.
2. Twice, Blackpink, and Red Velvet may be top female idols now, but they can't win against EXO or BTS. But during SNSD's golden year, SNSD HAD DESTROYED ALL IDOL MEN like Super Junior, Big Bang, TVXQ, 2PM. Only SNSD girl groups can win Album of the Year at the Golden Disk Award.
3. SNSD's popularity is many times higher than Twice now. WHEN SNSD TEASERS RELEASE, NAVER SERVER ALWAYS DOWN.
4. People [South Korea] will also find SNSD everywhere when they travel. In every corner of the city and the streets there are always SNSD posters and photos scattered.
SNSD also became an Intel model and became a famous fashion show model designer, Andre Kim.
5. SNSD photos always appear in every sporting match (baseball, basketball, soccer etc.).
6. SNSD members do not need to use name tags because EVERYONE KNOWS THEIR NAMES.
7. SNSD is the "Role Model" of most new group gilr. They are also the ideal type of idol and male actor, with the most mentioned members, Im Yoona and Kim Taeyeon.
8. They are the first idol group to reach 100 million viewers on TH-cam and 100 awards at music shows. They have 30+ Daesang and 300+ total awards. * Not including the awards obtained from each member.
9. Their debut song, INTO THE NEW WORLD became a national song for peace. This is used in demonstrations or whatever. Their song, GEE is still the most widely broadcast song in South Korea. Gee also has a record breaking nine consecutive weeks place on KBS Music Bank. This song is also used by Ajou Doctors University Medical Center for soldiers who defected North Korea. Meanwhile GENIE's appearance on the music core helipad holds the highest music program rating to date in South Korea's history, which is 17% or equal to 8.6 million Koreans watching SNSD performances simultaneously on TV. They have a big concert that can't be done by the Kpop match girlgroup. They had so much public recognition that they were invited to the Blue House to meet the South Korean first lady.
10. 'SM Girls' successfully made "GIRLS" GENERATION "as their own name SNSD is the first K-pop girl group with a big fanbase that rivals the boy group, became a role model for many female idols and won the hearts of the general public.
Girls Generation doesn't care how many new idols go up, SNSD STILL ON TOP GIRL GROUP.
Tiffany herself also said that SNSD is to Asia what the Spice Girls were to the Western world!

"I Got a Boy" is the Bohemian Rhapsody of Kpop. It's all over the place, but at the end the song 'bring it back to 140'.

One thing great about 2nd Gen groups is, they didn't stick to 1 concept or style and liked to experiment with different sounds. You never know what you're going to get with each comeback. and Girls Generation was great at that. They tackled any concept like it was their own. Not that there's anything wrong with groups sticking to 1 or 2 concepts nowadays because it does help show consistency and give them a signature sound (there's pros and cons to both).
"The Boys" was SM's first foray into the USA market, hence why they had an English version for it. As a result, they even got to perform on some late-night USA shows. They were pretty much the second group to try to enter the USA market, after Wonder Girls with "Nobody" and "2 Different Tears".
"I Got A Boy" has been touted by many as the "Bohemian Rhapsody of K-pop", due to its unique style and blending of sounds. It even won a TH-cam Award for Best MV at the time. Surprising that it vibed with you straight away, even for me, it took some time listening to it to get used to it and enjoy it ;0
"Lion Heart" did very well for its release, in fact, they've won 1st for it on music shows about as many times as they did with "Gee"!

I thought BoA was SM's first trying to break into USA market? She made english version of her songs and new english songs in 2008-9. The Boys was only in 2011, so I don't consider SNSD being the first for SM to test the American market, they probably were the first girl group for SM in the USA market though.

I cannot describe how Yuri - my first female bias ever in kpop - makes me feel. Her with the sunglasses in IGAB and her ending part in Lion Heart are so nostalgic to me and dear to my heart when I was first experiencing them - she owns my entire heart.

Short hair Sunny, the best! The dove pooped on Sunny's shoulder during the filming of the intro for The Boys! That "amazing" video of I Got A Boy won the first TH-cam Video of the Year Award and shocked the rest of the world. Every person who has ever reacted to Lion Heart gets hungry during that opening shot with the pizza.
Have you ever thought of digging into Girls' Generation's Japanese discography? Their Japan stuff is like super different than their Korean stuff and most fans prefer their Japanese songs. Just throwing it out there, but I agree their Japanese work is really well produced. "Mr. Taxi" is the most popular, "Catch Me if You Can" is a fan favorite, and I like to throw in a ballad like "Time Machine"
Yup they have a good Japanese discography! My personal favourites are divine and paparazzi 💖
My fave is Love&Girls and Bad Boy ( the mv doesn’t justify the song😅🤣) Karma Butterly and Do the Catwalk is also my fave
Said this before but I'll say it again.. watching you react to older kpop songs is GOLD. The whole kpop community was shookt with I Got A Boy and everyone was like "what?!" A literal cultural reset! Lol.
"This song goes in 5 different directions and I love it" Big Brain energy. The people who know how to appreciate I Got A Boy and not just pass it off as a mess always have my love and respect. There's a reason why it became so popular and why its MV beat big Western artists at the YTMA
SNSD is really a great GG! I hope they'll have a reunion one day and procude another album with full members including Jessica. I miss SNSD OT9.
Soshi are known as chamaleons of Kpop every comeback had a different style and that's why every comeback was a fresh and different surprise for everyone. React to Party and You Think that's the best example since they were released with only days of difference 😊❤️

Lion Heart is one of my favorite SNSD songs! As for guides, there aren't many of them, but there is an ot9 unhelpful guide by yarsm that I think may be one of the best you'll find. In terms of other things to react to, if you haven't checked out the song 'Witch' from the Good Girl reality show, it's really badass! It's performed by a five-member group: Yeeun (CLC), Jiwoo (KARD), Hyoyeon (SNSD), Cheetah and Jamie (formerly Jimin of 15&).
The boyz did a cover of the boys lol... I originally loveddd this song so seeing the cover was cool

THE OG/ THE NATIONS GIRL GROUP/ THE REAL QUEENS OF KPOP 👑💖
Yay for GG! The first kpop group I ever listened to and continued to love. The way your whole face changed and the enthusiastic head bop kicked into gear when the beat dropped in The Boys was adorable. I haven't finished the vid yet but just from that alone I'm excited and can't wait for you to react to more :)
You should watch their variety shows, I fell inlove watching them dissing each other like Infinite note, Knowing Bros, etc before I watched their iconic lives lol.Another thing is that watch their live stages, they are unparalleled even their encore hahaha
If you don’t mind me suggesting I think Girls’ Generation - “Mr Mr” “Catch Me If You Can” “Run Devil Run” and “Dancing Queen” are great! I like all of their songs but these are some of my favorites that you haven’t seen.
Their sub unit TaeTiSeo is amazing too. The three from there would be “Twinkle” “Holler” and “Adrenaline”
The other subunit Oh!GG’s “Lil Touch” is iconic and you absolutely have to watch them.
Solos. I know you’ve seen Taeyeon but Seohyun’s “Don’t Say No” and Yuri’s “Into You” are also amazing. Speaking of Taeyeon I don’t think you’ve seen “I’ve Got Love” or her preformance of Into the Unknown.
A fun fact about SNSD is that they sound even better live.

Lion heart was my first snsd song so it holds a special place in my heart. It's the song and mv that drove me to look their stuff up and eventually become a sone. I'm glad you like it so much :)

I must of watched Lion Heart so many many times when it came out the live performances were so fun to watch too. Such legends.
So many girl groups AND boy groups have covered them. Like SO MANY. They are truly legends. They have inspired so many. Kpop idols today have looked up to them since they were trainees. They shine individually and were named Nations girl group. Back then there wasn’t many girl groups, but they made it through obstacles and made it to 13 years. They are still on the charts and even tho they are second generation they are still top ten favorite girl groups. They have won so many awards and because of that they are still on top ten or top 5 of most awards. They are the reason why we have so many girl groups today. They have 3 tours/concerts that are top ten of Girl groups around the world, next to spice girls, destiny’s child and more. Truly Legends and Queens of kpop.
Blackpink is global now because kpop is now big, but Girls Generation during their peak was the only girl group who were beating boy groups in Kpop.Their impact >>> even now you will see they have 2 superstars Taeyeon and Yoona, plus the rest are also still active as actresses
'The boys' composed by Teddy Riley, the very famous but old producer of the states. So its sound is different from KPop. They tried to enter the U.S. at that time.
Regarding the song "Lion Heart", another way to think of it is as "Lyin' Heart".

snsd debuted on 2007, then made a sub unit oh gg on 2019 released a song, uploaded on youtube without promotions and stuff, still got over 100m views like omfg.
If you look at the song *I got a boy.* the woman with the blue-greenish / pink haircolour I've had a crush on eversince I saw their song *Oh.* about 10 years ago. And in this song she looks so insanely gorgeous.

You totally need to check out their JAPANESE RELEASES! Girls' Generation has the most amazing list of japanese tracks. MR TAXI (their first single, which led to their first also japanese album), FLOWER POWER, PAPARAZZI, GALAXY SUPERNOVA, BAD GIRL, and LOVE AND GIRLS are my favourites. KARMA BUTTERFLY is another song of them, never got an MV, but the live performance is INCREDIBLY AMAZING!
i got into kpop pretty late so i wasn't around when girls generation were more active but even i know how iconic these girls are! they're queens

IGAB is truly the bohemian rhapsody of kpop, it has a lot of genre but totally enjoyable and a bop. they're my first kpop group and this what made me stan, it is indeed very nostalgic i really love it!!

She has an extremely long career (she debuted at 13 years old in 2000!!), so it'd be hard to react to alll her music (she got super super famous in Japan too), but I'd like to suggest No.1, Atlantis Princess, Girls on Top, and Eat You Up (her English song) for the older songs, and Only One, Camo, Nega Dola, One Shot Two Shot, and Woman for newer songs! It was one of my favorite MVs because I live their dresses and it was overflowing with visuals and vocals... in IGAB , your reaction when the beat changed up hahahhaha I love it. How your jaw dropped and how the beat changes again, Love that. I was definitely expecting that reaction though. IGAB was iconic because the belief of people that the sound of 5 songs cant be heard in a song prooved wrong.... they are the first kpop group who did that ever and no one has pulled it off like they did. You should totally try watching their japanese videos, specially "paparazzi". I suggest also watching their live performance at MTV japan 2011, they performed two amazing Japanese songs "the great escape" and "Mr taxi". Their best Japanese performance to me.

speaking of artist influnce check out Big Bang they were the first to create light sticks, first to make their own music, and many other firats. They are the Kings of Kpop you should really check them out. Them and their female counter part the Queens 2ne1.

Wow. You react to Astro and now SNSD. I love these two kpop groups so much. They are both have good vocals and good songs.
Why the heck SM thought Lion Heart was a good idea when most other girl groups were going full-on sexy concepts, I have no idea---unless being different from all the rest would give them an edge? Well it worked!
Visually and choreographically it's an 'homage to MGM movie musicals and the fashion and popular dance styles of the 20.s, 30's, 40's, 50's and 60's ---bizarre really but as an MV it's just so visually entertaining. And then the vocals are exceptional--even for SNSD.
For a really great companion to this 'movie style' MV---and a really cool song too, you should check out Tiffany's "Teach You" (lyrics, arrangement, video concept all by her) which has cameos from Sooyoung and Hyoyeon of SNSD. th-cam.com/video/16QbCoxLNkI/w-d-xo.html
Other suggestions made here---Hoot, You Think, Mr.Mr., Run Devil Run, and their Japanese videos/songs, Mr. Taxi etc are alll really good--the Japanese version of Genie is better than the Korean in that it shows the choreography better. BUT as cool as their MVs are, SNSD In Concert is THE BEST, regardless of the era or song. Save concert reactions for a little while, watch some more MVs, but THEN,,,, in concert, you will see why SNSD are legend.
