      If you want to get autistic about it, they probably meant to say huckle bearer instead of huckleberry without knowing it, but wrote huckleberry in the script instead. It makes more sense as a huckle bearer was a name for someone carrying a casket, so he was letting Johnny Ringo know he was gonna delivery him his death. WHAT A LUNGER!

      I hear you and no disrespect I love guns I love your second amendment and I love the one that says you allowed to.talk freely what I disagree with is and image of someone harming an image of a child in any context I don't think it is a good Image nor do I think I sends good messages to anyone who sees stuff similar.....I like this guys channel etc...obv I don't understand the joke because I'm not from the states etc and fhat don't mean I not got a sense of humour etc
      ...but it can be upsetting for instance to people who know of youngsters that may of been harmed and died from violent acts like that couple who shot up the toddler with air rifle and the youngster died....obv this sketch and that event have nothing to do with each other but what I'm saying is the subject is sensitive and to harm a child and showing that image is not good and will def upset lots of people who may see the clip and not understand the context of the joke....listen im a grandad for 4 and 5th grandchild on way I have couple of sons and I had a daughter but she died and obviously as a parent that lost a child my emotions about children and protecting them are as strong as a mother's protective streak n We all know nothing stronger than mothers love.... All saying is wen people see image of a child being hurt it will trigger lots of people emotions especially parents Instincts no argument we cool still I still love guns n watching people shooting targets. Stuff just not images of human targets especially children PEACE

    Great video. I've had a Puma .357 levergun with suppressor and red dot since 2002 or so, and it's been a great gun. With subsonics it's literally quieter than my gamo pellet rifle. More than one person has called it an 'abomination' when seeing it, but never had anyone shoot it once that didn't want to shoot it again. As you say, for those in non-free states, a levergun could be a "good as it gets" defensive longarm. Good to see leverguns getting some love.

    • @douglasmcneil8413
      @douglasmcneil8413 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've had My Puma in 44 mag. since '94. They're a good gun. But being left handed I have to wear a hat when I shoot it. Because it loves to drop hot brass right on top of me head and my right shoulder. I don't think that's as much of a problem for right handed shooters. But it's still a great gun as long as I'm dressed for success.

    @22:53 The key to the loading gate is to adjust the screw until you're satisfied with the amount of pressure you need to push a bullet in. The adjustment is there for that reason. Secondly, if you only push the bullet in until the rim is sticking out and then push the next bullet in, you can increase your reload rate by a significant amount.

    Living in Canada, my dad always says that they can restrict semi-autos all they want but they’ll never be more dangerous than 10 rounds of .44 Magnum out of his 1894. Also if you’re looking into the XS sights rail be warned there is a little bit of zero drift due to heat/cold because it’s aluminum and the gun is steel. Still real nice though.

    • @Wastelandman7000

      .44 mag is an awesome gun. Especially for bear defense. Give me a choice between a leaver .44mag and a 5.56 AR platform and I'll choose the .44 every time. .300 Blackout might work, but, .the .44 is proven tried and true. Same as the old 45-70. They may not have as many shots as a newer platform, but, they'll get the job done.

    I have all sorts of guns in my safe, auto shotguns, pump shotguns, rifles in various calibers, but there is one that tops them all.
    That is my Henry Big Boy in 45 colt, this lever action is the top of the heap in this category.
    It holds 10+1, you can fire cowboy loads all day long with a bit more recoil than a .22 thanks to it's weight, it's the classic in brass.
    You can load standard loads for medium game hunting if you want.
    If that doesn't do it and want something even more powerful than a .44 magnum or even a 30-30 in 100 yards, and want it closer to a 454 casull.
    Then you can load the +p ammo, and some of that shit will put a hole through and through a deer at 250 yards or anything else walking on two or four legs in North America.

  • @pistonar
    @pistonar 4 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    Lever actions are faster than bolt guns, have larger magazines, and you can never lose that magazine. Against semi-autos, you're at a big disadvantage, but that's not what they're for nowadays. The only 'tactical' advantage that I want on a 'hiking gun' is a rail for a flashlight and a red dot. Levers have their place, just like any weapon ever made.

    Awesome to see you're so passionate about these lever guns aswel.
    From the moment my father learned me to shoot I fell in love with lever action rifles as the "gun that won west" however I never owned one myself. Until a few years back I was at a friend's house to pick up an old winchester 1890 I bought. And we got to talk about the awesome lever action guns of the old west. I especially love those chambered for pistol rounds because of the low recoil and the higher magazine capacity. Which make it an ideal plinking gun.
    At some point my friend told me he recently came across an old marlin model 1894 chambered in 38-40 wcf. With the original wooden stock and forehand and octagon barrel. A real beauty he was willing to part off for a real friendly price, knowing I always wanted to own a lever action but never had the chance to get my hands on one that I actually could afford.
    So this old marlin model 1894 became my first lever action and it's still my favorite. Although she's way older then I am she's in great condition and shoots like a dream.

    I had a lever action Remmington .35, which fired a weird .35 caliber rifle round and had a 7 round tube magazine. The thing was relatively small and lightweight, and packed quite a punch. It was very accurate and easy to operate, and was a great home defense weapon although a little bit too powerful and over-penetration was a legit concern. Ammunition was also quite expensive at about $1 per round, but also had ballistic tip rounds available, which are hollow point rounds with a pointed plastic nose cap to maintain aerodynamic shape, and prevent the bullet point from setting off the next round in the tube from pressing on the primer. However, I still loved the thing and had it for quite a while. It wasn't mine though and a friend had loaned it to me and asked for it back right before he moved out of state. So I no longer have it. But I love lever actions and see no problem in owning or using them.

    Just wanna say this was one of your best videos to date! Really good information all around. Having researched and used several of the Marlin lines recently, everything you said about them is spot on. QC isn't perfect but is much better now on these rifles than it was a few years ago. Still, definitely recommend inspecting these rifle closely before you buy. Lastly, XS ghost rings that these come with are super fast up close, but I definitely agree they are too big for practical long range use. Fortunately XS sells a wide range of apertures for these for very reasonable prices, so its really an easy fix if you want something a little more balanced.

    I stayed away from Marlin during those dark transition years after the Freedom Group bought them out. Marlin was my first firearm, a .22 bolt action rifle, still have it and all the fond memories. So, I'm not a Marlin hater. Two years ago I bought the marlin 1895 SBL in .45-70 because Wind River, mutherfookers. The fit & finish isn't 100% awesome and there are some sharp edges but I own a file, sand paper and a Dremel. I've owned other recommended lever guns and none of them ran worth a damn. The 1895 SBL has been 100% so far... so, this rifle isn't going anywhere and I'm digging that 1894 and the MI Rail.

    So happy that you referenced THE RIFLEMAN. I loved that show and I bought an old 30-30 Marlin from a pawn shop because of it. And I may have hip fired it and spun it a few times 😁

    A lever action rifle without wood furniture is like a prom date that doesn't put out.

    Marlin stock triggers are ok for most but their two piece triggers are known for the floppy trigger over travel that causes slight reduction in precision and more noise with a suppressor. Wild West Gun from Alaska makes the only drop in trigger upgrade and they offer it in silver or blue.

    This is one of the best things I did to my Marlin is adding this. The barrel stays way cooler. I can add a light plus my grip is better. All positives at the range and home.
