It’s sad how disposable a world we’re living in, and unfortunately there seems to be plastic in more products than we can imagine. My adult children are working on moving away from plastics, it’s going to take time but it will be worth it. I remember peanut butter came in a tin can, and products that were in glass just a few years ago are now packed in plastic, we’re going the wrong direction, society needs to start turning back to healthier products. Have a great week, God bless you both.
1. Place a pot of water to boil, be sure there is sufficient room for six apple-sized dumplings. 2. Divide the rice into six equal parts and place each portion of rice in a pudding cloth. 3. Place one apple on top of the rice in each pudding cloth. Placed finely shredded lemon peel in the core of each apple. 4. Wrap the pudding cloth around each apple so that the rice is evenly distributed around the apple. This is the most challenging part! Once the cloth is tied, gently massage the dumpling until the rice surrounds the apple. Be sure the cloth is firmly noted and there is space for the rice to expand. 5. Boil the puddings for 75 minutes.
Pregnancy is normally 40 weeks. 37 weeks is considered full term. 40 weeks is considered full full term. Why not wait to find out the gender until the baby is born? Back in the 1800s the gender was not known until the baby was born. I’m only kidding of course. You do what you want. I couldn’t wait either. But in a way I wish I would have waited until they were born. I’m so excited for you both. Nothing more amazing than holding your little one. It’s a testament of your love for each other. Thanks for sharing. Take care, see ya :)
I have a feeling you needed to use a different rice like a glutinous or sweet rice not a regular one. Try using some long-grain sticky rice varieties. It's very important to rinse and soak the rice before cooking, or it won't turn out right. The recommendation is to rinse the rice under cold water until the liquid is no longer milky-colored. Then, cover the rice with two inches of cold water and let it soak for 2 to 24 hours. Drain the rice before using. I love your videos and the fact that you're not afraid to show the fails. Love to hear the latest baby news !👶 Maybe we can look forward to some 1820's advice on child rearing! ❤
I was a kid in the 70's. I remember PB and ketchup in glass and we always had glass pop bottles. We collected them and brought them to the pharmacy to turn them in for Money. It would be nice to get away from all the plastics 🙏 Love you guys 💞💞
Justine and Ron, we are all gonna be aunties and uncles to the baby, so we can’t wait to hear all about it! The littlest patriot will be with us this time, next year! So exciting. 🎉
Thanks for the plastic rant! Unfortunately, not a lot of people are aware of it and if you start thinking about it it’s scary that we have turned our beautiful world into this toxic waste land. I applaud you for this public service announcement. My dad died at a fairly young age from colon cancer so this means a lot. Also my sister is cleansing her home from plastic. It is hard though. Almost everything is wrapped in plastic or containing plastic. Thanks again! Julie from Sweden
Justine and Ron: I think I found it. Looking over your receipt it states "then have ready some thin cloths to tie the balls in; put the rice in the cloth" so the cloth will help adhere the rice to the ball and it even warns "be careful how you turn them into the dish that you do not break the rice" so very delicate dish. I think on your 2nd attempt they will be better. I see the diappointment.
I hope the two of you and your loved ones are all weathering the storm okay! I'm looking forward to catching this and chatting with everybody later! Cheers, all! 😊
"For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.” - Psalm 139:13-14
I’m 48 and have had cancer twice. Once at age 24, second time last year - two totally different types of cancer. My recent one was kidney cancer which my dr said could be caused from microplastics in the water.
Also look into how they get rid of fiberglass windmill blades they can’t recycle them. All they do is bury them. Same with paper water cups and coffee cups lined with plastic the hot water is introduced and then tarts to dissolve the plastics into the liquid! Oh yes I am down for this Rabbit hole!!!! Bring it!!!
I'm glad you made it through the storm and then my daughter said it got bad down there she had a lot of ice and she's just one town over from you blessings to you and all of yours
Our last house had carpet that was something like half recycled plastic bottles. It sounded like a good idea at the time...don't ask about the static...
15:01 sadly, I just had a childhood friend pass away after fighting stage 4 rectal cancer for over two years. We’re in our early 30’s and it’s scary to think of what changes the world has gone through to be doing to our bodies 😢
Maybe don't clean the rice and only cook till the startches are activated. That way the starch can act as a binding agent and help keep the "ball" shape.
Y'all are so cute snow ball fighting. I love in Texas and we don't get much snow and I love snow. I agree about the plastic we use way to much and they keep making more things out of it then turn around and say how bad it is. Y'all have a blessed week
Fiberglass is spun glass. I think that you are so right about man made materials! We are going to build a new house, and hope to use as much natural products as possible. have a good week! Stay warm!
When I was stationed in England in the early 1980’s, they shipped in soda from the states. It became a crap shoot as to whether that batch of soda tasted like the aluminum can. The soda companies did fix that problem but in the meantime, a case lasted two and a half weeks for two people, who needed caffeine to function when you couldn’t drink anymore coffee.
I just read an article listing restaurants that have plastic in their food! We have started eliminating plastic in our kitchen and storage. We use a lot of glass! I also saw an article on plastic in water bottles with water. Yes plastic is out of control, and it is very unhealthy
Interesting about the snow ball receipt! This picture looks comical Ron and Justine snow ball fight! Hope you all doing good! Here in Menifee co KY so far we had 9 inches together and ice storm. The ice was a inch thick. No electricity to evening to morning. The electric wint off several times. Tomorrow 3 to 6 inches.Rebecca and David Back.
LOL those things look nasty! Thank you for sharing your "mistakes" with us- Keeping it real from the historic cookbook!! Love the snowball fight at the end!. 🥰
Hi, Ron and Justine! Awwww! What a shame about your Carolina Snowballs. Justine, try the recipe with cooked rice this time for a future Chew and Chat? Your baby bump is sweet! Hope you both had a wonderful New Year's. God bless!
My sister's husband was diagnosed with multiple myeloma cancer. He was only 65 when he died. He would heat his lunch every day in a microwave in the plastic container in which he took it to work. My sister suspected eating food heated in the container contributed to or may have even caused the cancer. So sad. His son to this day does not purchase any foods that are sold in plastic containers. So many unnatural and unhealthy products we are consuming and even breathing in. I hope your little one comes into the world healthy and beautiful.
Microplastics are in the rain, and the rain already spread microplastics in remote places like forests or deserts. Unless there is a way to make a magnet to only capture polymers, we are in an ocean of microplastics.
Marilyn Monroe fan here. Over the years, I’ve collected all her movies, even the ones where she was an extra. My favorite movie of hers is Don’t Bother To Knock. Her character was different than the roles she was normally given.
I'm in central Alabama & we are fixing to get icy rain, snow & rain tonite & tomorrow!!!! We are not equipped to handle this winter weather! I have a big fireplace so yesterday I brought in a bunch of wood to have to burn for heat mainly. I just hate cleaning out the ashes!
I thought so, after watching you for the last few months I thought you were looking a little rounder. lol Congratulations to you BOTH. I am going to be a grandmother this year myself. it is very exciting. :) when you threw up after making this, I said YES she is pregnant. :)
Orza sativa, the rice available in the US at the time, was either long grain or short grain and sticky. Not sure if that would make the difference in the receipt or if prepared dry or cooked.
Missouri doesn’t sound much different from Idaho! 100+ for weeks in the summer and we get below 0° (mostly at nights but we dip really low during the day too) in the winter. My area doesn’t get the most snow, but we’re 30 minutes away from mountains and skiing/snowboarding so you get a little bit of everything
Everything is plastic nowadays. It’s basically impossible get rid of it. Looks fun having a snow fight. I never have one nor built a snow man. Thank you Ron and Justine for the video.
The snowballs i see prolly should have cooked to the sticky stage ahead of time. I would have added coconut. That sauce is wrong somehow. Aww Ron is such a good husband for eating that.
I wonder if you par boil the rice just enough to make it sticky if that would work. It wouldn’t be cooked all the way so maybe it would hold up to the hour of cooking with getting mushy if it was cooked all the way. Hopefully it will work for you. Have a great weekend.
Hi Justine and Ron enjoyed watching tonights chew and chat. I got to thinking about your problem with the rice on the snowballs when I make rice it tends to stick together when it cools after you let the liquid out let them cool before unwrapping . I'm going to give them a try and see if I can make them they sound good. Nice to see happy parents to be. 🩷from PA.
😂😂😂 You know how to fix it. Take it to the nearest trash can and pitch it. 😂😂😂 Thank you for sharing your fails as well as the wins! Maybe there is a better recipe for it…. some place….??? 😊
I hadn't thought about how my filters are plastic 🥴. It is so hard to get away from but you do what you can and leave the rest to God. Looking forward to the gender reveal episode!
Thanks for bringing this to everyones attention. The more people know the more they can make better choices. We vote qith our dollar so vote wisely. Vote for the practices that you want to support. That goes for meat, veggies, furniture, etc
I been freaking out about plastics for a while now. If u heat plastics it's worse. I loved milk in glass bottles. I have been dehydrating apples thinking I am being happy my dang dehydrated is plastic. Everything at the store is plastic or wrapped in plastic. I hear you it Is terrifying. Love your channels
Hi Ron and Justine...my suggestion even though I won't make it.....go to the grocery store get cozy shack rice pudding and throw some apples in it.....oh and have a small glass of wine with it
I boiled jasmine rice like pasta the other day and did it till it was soft and mushy. It was a consistency that you could definitely shape into balls or around something. It was just the plain rice. I wonder if the type of rice or amount of water matters for your recipe? Perhaps I’ll try to make the snowballs tomorrow since I’ve got some rice leftover :) If I do, I’ll let you know if it worked 😊
it has to do with the linen wrapper, i made just Jasmin rice around a peeled apple.. I put down a bottom layer of rice and placed the wrapper in a big muffin tin then poured the rice around the apple till it covered the apple then twisted the cloth tight and tied it together .....as the rice swelled in the bath it formed a ball..... but had to let it chill before i opened it up.
Maybe tweak the recipe using cooked "sticky rice", wrap the par boiled or baked cored apple, fill the center with your own butter, sugar and cinnamon recipe, recork the ends with small pieces of apple to keep it in center. Then roll apple in cinnamon sugar, mold rice around apple, then fry them. As always, enjoy your video's and personalities. God bless you and your growing family.
Ok, I just read a recipe for the snowballs, it said to used cooked rice, not cleaned rice. That might be the problem, maybe? I have been going away for everything plastic. I only use glass in my kitchen.
I think you should have twisted the cloth tight into small balls, then tied them up. When the rice swelled it would have compacted the rice into tight balls

What I would have done with the sauce is add flour to make a roux , and add milk, and cooked til thick, then added the cooked rice and apple and ate it lol
This might of worked I found where you might of made a mistake. This is from the same recipe but on a webpage that turned out perfect Boil the rice in the milk until 3/4 of the way done, strain off extra milk. Set aside and let cool. Mix the cinnamon, sugar and a few cloves and add a small amount of water to make a paste. Fill the apples with the cinnamon and sugar. Lay out a pudding cloth and cover it with 1/2 inch of the cooled rice. Place apple in the center and tie the bag around the top, making sure to press the rice together around one apple. Once all apples are wrapped, boil in a large pot for 30-45 minutes or until the apples are soft. Remove the snowballs from the water by the strings and left to cool on a plate Let cool then remove the pudding cloths and serve.
It's always great to hang out with you two for awhile regardless of topic! I totally agree that most plastics need to go away.
The couple that plays together, stays together! Words of wisdom from an older divorced woman...😊❤

I make my own peanut butter, just roasted, salted peanuts in the Vitamix and store in a mason jar.

Exactly my thoughts too.
I was going to say that to them too!

In childhood, all my family dinners included ice tea drank in "jelly glasses". Jelly was sold in decorative glass jars shaped as an ice tea glass.
Justine and Ron, we are all gonna be aunties and uncles to the baby, so we can’t wait to hear all about it! The littlest patriot will be with us this time, next year! So exciting. 🎉

@ Of course, Ron! ☺️
We also didn't have as many allergies back then, either.

“They are all tools that can make you happy”, Justine. Well done, woman who understands men!
Absolutely on point. We have traded quality for quantity. Poor quantity at that.
Also look into how they get rid of fiberglass windmill blades they can’t recycle them. All they do is bury them.

To prevent cancer, diabetes (which is the cause for all "diseases") GO CARNIVORE!
🥩🥓🧈🥚
Maybe don't clean the rice and only cook till the startches are activated. That way the starch can act as a binding agent and help keep the "ball" shape.
Hello Justine, short grain rice works better because it is starchier and thus it sticks together. Arborio rice, pearl rice are starchy rices too.
I've been on a natural fiber kick. Trying to cut those polyester/spandex/acrylics outta my wardrobe. It's hard but I love cotton and wool.
Y'all are so cute snow ball fighting. I love in Texas and we don't get much snow and I love snow. I agree about the plastic we use way to much and they keep making more things out of it then turn around and say how bad it is. Y'all have a blessed week

The rice was a specific kind grown in Carolina and Georgia. It is no longer easy to get but can be ordered

Tupperware was the beginning of taking glass food containers out of the fridge and it was made of petroleum oil
Hi, Ron and Justine!

Hi you two..can't wait for today's video...as always. Is that snowball explosion real? If so it's so awesome. Love from Idaho
I agree, we use stainless steel hot/cold mugs for our coffee and water. Saves so much money and is so much better for the environment.
You two are the best. Glad to see you are doing well.
I'd love to see how everyday chores are done in the winter. It would be cool to see but must been so hard and so cold.
Hey showing fails is also educational as well as entertaining thanks so much! 😂🫶
Marilyn Monroe fan here. Over the years, I’ve collected all her movies, even the ones where she was an extra. My favorite movie of hers is Don’t Bother To Knock. Her character was different than the roles she was normally given.

Jasmine rice works great!!
Try it!!😊😊😊

Orza sativa, the rice available in the US at the time, was either long grain or short grain and sticky. Not sure if that would make the difference in the receipt or if prepared dry or cooked.
I definitely would cook the rice in a little extra water and cook on low until all the water is absorbed. Best sticky rice ever.
A reveal show when ya find out what the baby is, that would be awsome
Have you ever made a figgy pudding? I've not eaten one but think it turns our like a fruit cake but with raisins as the fruit?
Raisins are fruit. Theyre grapes! 😂
Missouri doesn’t sound much different from Idaho! 100+ for weeks in the summer and we get below 0° (mostly at nights but we dip really low during the day too) in the winter. If you look closely the rice around the apple it looks like it has been crushed into rice flour, made into a paste and coated the apple.
Hi Justine and Ron enjoyed watching tonights chew and chat. Two drawbacks to glass : 1.) it breaks, and 2.) it's heavy.
I hadn't thought about how my filters are plastic 🥴. It is so hard to get away from but you do what you can and leave the rest to God. Looking forward to the gender reveal episode!

I have been dehydrating apples thinking I am being happy my dang dehydrated is plastic. Everything at the store is plastic or wrapped in plastic. I hear you it Is terrifying. Love your channels
Maybe you should leave it in the pudding cloth till it cools then it might stick together. I would also thicken the sauce with eggs.
Hi Ron and Justine...my suggestion even though I won't make it.....go to the grocery store
get cozy shack rice pudding and throw some apples in it.....oh and have a small glass of wine with it

Love your channel. Is it warm in the cabin, do you have heat on?
it has to do with the linen wrapper, i made just Jasmin rice around a peeled apple.. I put down a bottom layer of rice and placed the wrapper in a big muffin tin then poured the rice around the apple till it covered the apple then twisted the cloth tight and tied it together .....as the rice swelled in the bath it formed a ball..... but had to let it chill before i opened it up.
Justine is going on and on about how bad it is while Ron eats all of it.😂😋
Husqvarna also makes excellent scissors and sewing machines!
So true about plastic being the new asbestos. A good reminder of why we need environmental and health regulations.
When you picked up your spoon and that heavy plate stuck to the bottom....I knew you did something right.
I think try making a simple syrup and mix it with the rice. Then form it around the apple.
There's two different types of rice. One is long grain rice and a different type that clings together like sushi rice and rice pudding type.
These snowballs are put in a cooking cloth, I think, tied up and then lowered in boiling pot of water.
Sounds like it's something that the chickens would like🥰😇🤗
I love the old stuff too.
Ok, I just read a recipe for the snowballs, it said to used cooked rice, not cleaned rice. That might be the problem, maybe? I have been going away for everything plastic. I only use glass in my kitchen.
Chewing gum had been mostly plastic for decades now too. (Look it up!) Natural gum is next to impossible to find now.
I think you should have twisted the cloth tight into small balls, then tied them up. When the rice swelled it would have compacted the rice into tight balls
Maybe the sugar and cinnamon need to be mixed with the rice and use a whole apple. The sugar will dissolve into the rice making it sticky.
Wow, I didn't know that about Husquarvarna. 380 years making firearms. Who'd a thunk it?
PS, I used to love the Harbisons milk in a carboard carton in kindergarten. Milk always tasted so much creamier and delicious, hate milk in plastic containers.
You two are so funny
What I would have done with the sauce is add flour to make a roux , and add milk, and cooked til thick, then added the cooked rice and apple and ate it lol
Enjoyed the video ❤❤❤
The don't wash the rice. The rice starch is what holds it like snowball.❤😂
Stay safe and warm!
They make sewing machines too! I have a Huskvarna sewing machine.
Snowball fights are the best
It's the type of rice you probably need calrose rice. When I was growing up and I was little Arrowhead water was delivered in glass bottles
The last time I drank a soda from a glass bottle, it was one of those Mexican sodas, and it had almost no flavor.
The beautiful cat doll is noobie 😻
