i've not tried TJ's boba myself, but brown sugar based bobas are indeed very sweet, often cloyingly so! You mentioned that you didn't like the unpredictability of when you'll "suck" up the pearls, I think to counter that maybe using a thin straw + a spoon and eating the boba like a cereal could help? There are shaved ice desserts that use boba as a topping so it's completely normal to do that. Chinese/asian style soy milk also tastes really different from the common western soy milk brands like Silk and that could also impact the flavour. In boba tea shops, you definitely can adjust the sweetness level and ice level (I go for 30% sugar, sometimes no sugar), and it's also normal to get boba teas without any milk. There's also many different kinds of bobas and toppings, such as actual popping bobas, but those are often even sweeter and more artificially flavoured than brown sugar ones. I personally like clear bobas (made out of konjac, different texture and flavour) and grass jelly. Hopefully next time (if you ever decide to try boba again) you can try it out at a local boba shop and customize it to your liking, it's a very different drinking experience compared to having pre-made drinks! Food texture is just so personal, I can't tolerate the texture of oatmeal myself bc I've always thought the texture feels slimy(?) but I am somehow okay with grass jelly in my boba drink XD
Poor Swayze. She lost her mind many years ago and has only published rubbish videos since then. And her poor children, which she abuses with cooked food. All very unfortunate.
i used to think manifesting was all about repeating affirmations and hoping for the best. i tried it for months and…nothing. i was so frustrated. then i heard about this book, Vibrations of Manifestation by Alex Lane, and how it breaks down the science and energy behind manifestation. it’s like it flipped a switch in my brain. once i started applying what i learned, things started falling into place like never before. worth checking out if you’re serious about manifesting.

I absolutely love the beefless bulgogi I usually make it into a stir fry with broccoli and serve over rice, usually with a gochujang sesame sauce that I think balances the sweetness of the steak bites. I really love their texture though, although if you are not someone who appreciates sweet and savory it's understandable why you might not like these
I love the beefless bulgolgi, it's probably my favorite mock meat there! I don't really get the sweetness as much, it's definitely got a little hint of something but I really don't experience much of that. I like to microwave it in a bowl and add dijon mustard and capers though so I'm just completely blowing out my taste receptors with my disgusting microwaved bachelor chow so you shouldn't listen to me in general
You trying boba 🧋 is so funny. I get it my grandma was at the mall with me and she tried some of mine. She swallowed it with like no reaction. For a moment, I thought she might think it’s good but then she said whatever that shit is disgusting. Made me laugh so hard.
I have to mention that it's pretty common for ravioli filling to sometimes spill out when it's overcooked (or it opens while cooking) that's why they were empty
I can always tell if the filling has fallen out due to overcooking - it will be floating in the cooking water. It looks like those raviolis were actually empty.
This was the most entertaining Trader Joe's taste test video of all time! Literally laughed out loud several times. " Shit apples" LOL & the whole Boba section was comedy gold!!! Thanks for the laughs! 💚😂
Of course you know that when reading the ingredient list of any food product, it goes from more prevalent to less prevalent. The reason the 'Dark Chocolate Sunflower Seed Butter Cups" contains more than one kind of sugar is so the company making them could get away with not putting "sugar" as the first ingredient, which it would certainly have to do if their product was made with only type of sweetener.
Thank you for removing the chewing sound! I click out of many taste test videos if I can hear the chewing lol 😅😅 but I love your taste test videos. The level of raw honesty is great 😂😂
I'm sheltering in place in Los Angeles and this video is somehow the first thing that has distracted/calmed me today. A Trader Joe's haul of all things. Thank you for posting this! Also, since when has pear juice concentrate as a sweetener been a thing? Lol
So I just looked it up: the whole can has 21g. But per serving (which they have as 1 cup) is only 12g. A can of lentils is 7g per serving (but only 1/2 cup as a serving) so right on par with what it should be id say. She just didn’t mention that the 21g is for the whole can.
I don’t understand the “frozen bread” comment - might you be undercooking them? I’ve had many frozen breads/frozen roti/frozen paratha and they cook to perfection as the dough is frozen raw - but they do need enough time (and there is certainly an issue with excessive oiliness in some of these products).
Aldi has a lentil soup that’s A-mazing . It’s a seasonal product for Aldi in winter it’s usually potato soup and the lentil soup. Then in summer it switches to tomato basil soup and butternut squash. I use the lentil soup and cook off most of soup liquid then I use the lentils as a filler for taco’s but better is the lentil pot pie I make with it. Either with biscuits on top or puff pastry. Can’t find pie crust that’s vegan yet
i remember this one night i was scrolling aimlessly, feeling like i had hit rock bottom. it felt like nothing i wanted was ever going to happen for me. i don’t know why, but i clicked on this link about the book Vibrations of Manifestation by Alex Lane, and something about it drew me in. the more i read, the more i felt like it was written just for me. it’s wild how much a single book can change your perspective.
so there was this period in my life when i kept attracting the wrong people, wrong opportunities, everything just felt…off. i couldn’t figure out why it kept happening. then one day, a friend mentioned a book called Vibrations of Manifestation by Alex Lane, saying it helped them see the patterns they didn’t even realize they had. i decided to give it a read, and wow, it opened my eyes to how much my own energy was shaping my life. seriously, this book is something else.
i remember this one time i felt completely stuck, like no matter what i did, life just wasn’t moving forward. i tried everything-manifestation journals, vision boards, all that stuff-but it felt like i was missing something. then i stumbled across this book, Vibrations of Manifestation by Alex Lane, and it hit different. it wasn’t just about manifesting; it was about understanding the energy i was putting out into the world. honestly, it changed everything. if you’re feeling stuck too, you might want to check out this book.
At boba shops you can request the sweetness to be 25, 50, 75 and 100 percent sweetness (at least where I go). I always go with 25 percent! The sweetness overwhelms me as well, but 25 is just right. 👌
I add some tofu to the red curry, and I air fry the roti. It's a good treat dinner. too high calorie to be in the rotation but probably healthier than most takeout.
Omg my whole family loves the bulgoli. Even omnis! I like to put them with the knife cut noodles (spicy is my fav but it’s not very spicy) and their mild cabbage and a sprinkle of nooch salt . Soooo good.
a while back, i hit a point where i felt like everything was out of my control. i kept wondering why other people seemed to get what they wanted while i was stuck in the same place. then i came across this book called Vibrations of Manifestation by Alex Lane. i wasn’t expecting much, but the way it explains the connection between your energy and the life you create? it blew my mind. it’s not just a book, it’s like a blueprint for turning your life around.
Your horrified and shocked face at the boba is hilarious XD. To be tolerable, boba needs to be made with as little sugar as they can ... and it will still be sugary as heck. I cannot imagine what normal sugar level might taste like.
Most of the ingredients in a bulgogi seem to be sweet than savoury especially the use of pears in the marinade. I think the sides and dipping sauce help to adjust the flavour base
The Kind Frozen "ice cream" bars were my favorite. Calories:sugar:protein ratios were pretty good and I liked the flavor but I can't find them anymore.
Given your issues with food textures I was not surprised that you didn't like boba tea. Pearl milk tea is the basic flavour and it usually is very sweet. Good boba or bubble tea stores will adjust sweetness and ice level when you order. While there are a variety of different flavours you can get, most are not vegan.
I love the vegan ravioli but there's definitely an issue with how the pasta is sealed. I always get at least 2 or 3 that leak out into the pasta water. I love the beefless bulgogi! It's one of my favorite go-to items. I roast it in the oven for a couple minutes, take it out, break up the block, then I add tteokbokki (the one in the red package that comes with the spicy sauce) and broccoli and put it back in the oven until everything is cooked and toasty. The tteokbokki is better if you cook it in the sauce on the stovetop according to the package instructions, but I'm too lazy to clean another pan and would rather just do it all on one sheet tray in the oven.
Yes! It’s my kid’s and my favourite for an easy pasta meal. They just dip them in the tomato basil red sauce from TJ’s but I love the kale pesto and chop up some cherry tomatoes to give it some bite!
So on the Pad See Ew, that's not bok choy in there, it's Chinese broccoli aka gai lan. Gai lan is quite bitter, and I've always found it to be rather tough and stringy. Many of the Thai restaurants in my area use Gai lan rather than regular broccoli or bok choy - not a fan. I haven't tried the Trader Joe's Pad See Ew though, but I agree with your partner that their Pad Thai is bland.
My South African heart when you asked if you pronounced roti right...thank you, you didn't, but you're close. Make and "O" with your mouth and make a strong O sound, not like "oh" but more like you ran into a wall and went "O" lol😭😂 then put it together with the rest of the letters you pronounced right and you get roti🙆🏼♀️
Hey I am a huge fan of boba but those instant boba kits are always TERRIBLE UGHHH If you get it in a tea shop you can adjust the sugar and the boba texture is much much better.
Do you have ‘Katja’ candy in the US? We have this brand in The Netherlands and almost every kind they sell is vegan and so delicious! I think only the yogurt gums are vegetarian and everything else vegan.
Did the curry and flat bread have a lot of coconut oil? Curious since she said there’s a lot of saturated fat in the only sources I can think of that are vegan or coconut oil or palm oil. Also, when I get bubble tea, I get it without the pearls because I can’t stand the texture.
Boba texture doesn't bother me, but always gives me a sickly feeling tummyache. I like the fruity popping bubbles, but I try to drink them in less sweet, more bitter milk teas as a way to balance it out since they are bursts so sweetness.
I’m watching this from Europe just cause I’m interested to see what you have in the US. What about all that 80’s style packaging. So many of the images and lettering just look straight from the 80’s. 🤣
To add on the trying snacks- watermelon never really changes, I want to see new stuff! Also idk about most people.but to me trader joes as a store is like mostly snacks and barely essentials, I'm not expecting like regular grocery taste test from TJs 🤷♀️
I think I ate so much peanutbutter as a kid that other nut butters are not tasty to me. I experimented the last few months with different kinds. Sunflower butter is the closest to edible but almond butter is not my thing. Of course hazelnut spread is just delicious because it’s also chocolate lol. But yeah. Peanutbutter has no rival
The Taiwanese Pancakes are even better if you pan fry them until they are golden brown on both sides. It becomes less bready and more like a scallion pancake from a restaurant!
I know you’re a somewhat picky eater and I always wonder if we have the same taste when watching these. With the boba I knew you wouldn’t like it before watching 😂 if you go to a place, you can ask for it to be less or no sugar (which I always do)
The boba is made out of just tapioca starch. They are a lot better fresh but yeah, like everyone else is saying: it’s just not the kind of texture you’ll like, fresh or not.
I hope this is not creepy to ask but do you dye your hair or are you taking anything for hair health? I'm 4 years older than you (and have only two kids😂) but I am sooo grey haired.
With the ravioli, I think it’s best with Miyoko’s butter, nutritional yeast, a lil iodized salt, and tofurky chick’n (if you can find it - I never can). I will say that the ravioli can break pretty easily if they’re stuck together, and the taste of them when the filling is watery is actually vomit inducing. I’ve stopped buying them after eating one that was really watery inside. Very off-putting.
Any brown sugar flavoured boba is generally sickeningly sweet, i just have plain milk tea when i get boba and I find that much nicer. In general the instant ones usually suck imo. I've several brands and none of them were particularly nice. Far better having it from a boba shop
Yeah, a lot of g/f stuff can have a grainy texture. Some are much better than others. We don't get any where the range of g/f or vegan foods here in Australia. It depends on the flour blend. Sadly, We don't get anywhere the range of g/f or vegan foods here in Australia that other places do. Re: boba - the tapioca balls have always put me off trying it. I know a lot of peo0le who love it but its just no for me.
any real UnnaturalVegan fan saw the thumbnail of her trying boba and knew before even clicking that she would NOT like the boba LOLLL
I literally JUST was going to comment the same thing! 😆 i was immediately like NOOOO!!
Yep , my thoughts exactly!
Literally looked at the title and thought, she is going to hate this.
Oh yeah. Saw the post and said, “ooo she’s not gunna like those.” Lol like we are best friends 😂😂😂
It’s why I clicked 😂
I LOVE that you remove the chewing sounds and that you've taught me the word misophonic
Poor Swayze.
She lost her mind many years ago and has only published rubbish videos since then.
And her poor children, which she abuses with cooked food.
All very unfortunate.
Before watching this I saw the title and immediately thought “oh no, are you going to be okay Swayze?” 😂😂
I have misophonia and I love you for removing the sounds ❤ that is very nice of you

Is there a “best vegan news of 2024” in the works?
I believe there is
She said she got sick and mostly lost her voice (I dont know if that's before or after this was filmed). I think that means it'll be delayed?
If you aren’t watching Totally Forkable’s Good Vegan News series you might want to watch that in the meantime!
Poor Swayze.
She lost her mind many years ago and has only published rubbish videos since then.
And her poor children, which she abuses with cooked food.
All very unfortunate.
26:40 "I like the ice..."😂😂😂
I saw the title before I saw the thumbnail and thought "She's not going to like the texture". 😂
You should try going to a boba shop. They do have a ton of flavors and gummy things other than tapioca. Most let you pick the sugar level as well.
i used to think manifesting was all about repeating affirmations and hoping for the best. i tried it for months and…nothing. i was so frustrated. then i heard about this book, Vibrations of Manifestation by Alex Lane, and how it breaks down the science and energy behind manifestation. it’s like it flipped a switch in my brain. once i started applying what i learned, things started falling into place like never before. worth checking out if you’re serious about manifesting.

5:27 lol it’s Korean ! It’s sweet because it’s like teriyaki! You should make a teriyaki sauce with it and eat it with veggie.

Yeah, I was going to say the same thing.
I can always tell if the filling has fallen out due to overcooking - it will be floating in the cooking water. It looks like those raviolis were actually empty.
It helps to cook them over medium heat and not in super boiling water.
This was the most entertaining Trader Joe's taste test video of all time! Literally laughed out loud several times. " Shit apples" LOL & the whole Boba section was comedy gold!!! Thanks for the laughs! 💚😂
26:44 We just witnessed how every woman reacts to their first money shot
You had me cracking up with the ravioli and boba. Lol
Happy New Year, Swayze! Watching you try the Boba gave me a laugh this morning 😂

Your reactions to the boba had me on the floor.
1:59 "this first taste was... Like @$$!" 😂
I think some of the ravioli were empty because whenever I boil them they get stuck together or punctured and filling leaks out
I'm sheltering in place in Los Angeles and this video is somehow the first thing that has distracted/calmed me today. A Trader Joe's haul of all things. Thank you for posting this! Also, since when has pear juice concentrate as a sweetener been a thing? Lol
Apple ranking video upcoming
How can the lentil soup have 20gs of protein when a tin of lentils is only 8g protein and the UK lentil soups are about 11g protein?
So I just looked it up: the whole can has 21g. But per serving (which they have as 1 cup) is only 12g. A can of lentils is 7g per serving (but only 1/2 cup as a serving) so right on par with what it should be id say. She just didn’t mention that the 21g is for the whole can.

That was too funny for absolutely no reason at all. Also, you say the "t" in roti like the "t"s in tortilla
Happy NY & Happy Veganuary Swayze. 👍
so there was this period in my life when i kept attracting the wrong people, wrong opportunities, everything just felt…off. i couldn’t figure out why it kept happening. then one day, a friend mentioned a book called Vibrations of Manifestation by Alex Lane, saying it helped them see the patterns they didn’t even realize they had. i decided to give it a read, and wow, it opened my eyes to how much my own energy was shaping my life. seriously, this book is something else.

So... Apple tierlist when?
I'm always entertained by these videos. 😂❤

7:38 sweet again? Wow these companies think we need sugar on everything
Eww super fatty 800 calories 😂 Omg
a while back, i hit a point where i felt like everything was out of my control. i kept wondering why other people seemed to get what they wanted while i was stuck in the same place. then i came across this book called Vibrations of Manifestation by Alex Lane. i wasn’t expecting much, but the way it explains the connection between your energy and the life you create? it blew my mind. it’s not just a book, it’s like a blueprint for turning your life around.
I love the spinach & cashew ravioli with the vegan pesto
Your horrified and shocked face at the boba is hilarious XD. To be tolerable, boba needs to be made with as little sugar as they can ... and it will still be sugary as heck. I cannot imagine what normal sugar level might taste like.
I mostly watch to see your reactions being grossed out by everything 😂😂 I can’t trust your taste because I LOVE sweet and salty together lol
Why did I lol when you got the boba balls
Great video!! You’re awesome. The bread is pronounced row-tee not “roady” hahahaha
Most of the ingredients in a bulgogi seem to be sweet than savoury especially the use of pears in the marinade. I think the sides and dipping sauce help to adjust the flavour base
love these videos, hope you will do it more often thank you dear
The Kind Frozen "ice cream" bars were my favorite. Calories:sugar:protein ratios were pretty good and I liked the flavor but I can't find them anymore.
Never tried those!
Are you planning on doing a video on the best vegan news of 2024?
Dennis takes a mental health day is one of my all time favorite Sunny episodes!
We like the ravioli with the pesto! It pairs really well, in my opinion😊
Fresh cooked tapioca in brown sugar is so goooood in Bubble teas 🥹 the frozen one must be eeew
The cashew spinach ravioli are good served in a simple broth (ravioli en brodo)
I haven't been to a Trader Joe's in a long time. I always thought their BEST frozen vegan meal was the Vegan Tikka Masala. Do they still carry that?
They do and it's still fantastic!!
9:46 to be fair Trader Joe’s produce sucks !
Nooooo not the bulgogi!
I’m addicted to that and eat it with the tteokbokki. Am I crazy? Lol it’s my fave thing from there.
You should review their lentil and hummus wraps. They also have some Asian spring rolls, which I like.
Hey I am a huge fan of boba but those instant boba kits are always TERRIBLE UGHHH
If you get it in a tea shop you can adjust the sugar and the boba texture is much much better.
I love you so much for trying the Boba and your reactions are incredible thank you thank you thank you
I love taro oat milk boba! Brown sugar ones are usually too sweet
Whoa the camera is SO close 😳 Thank you for braving the boba for out viewing pleasure 😁
Could someone explain to me what "Sunday Sweets" is when it comes to kids? Does it mean they dont eat any sweet treats like cakes etc during the week?
Do you have ‘Katja’ candy in the US? We have this brand in The Netherlands and almost every kind they sell is vegan and so delicious! I think only the yogurt gums are vegetarian and everything else vegan.

I got a sunflower seed butter mixed with cocoa. It's not Nutella, but it's still good. 😅
Did the little drumstick spring rolls come with sauce ?
Love your videos regardless, but you deserve all of the awards for taking out the chewing sounds
Boba texture doesn't bother me, but always gives me a sickly feeling tummyache. I like the fruity popping bubbles, but I try to drink them in less sweet, more bitter milk teas as a way to balance it out since they are bursts so sweetness.

I LOVE the beef bulgogi 😍😍😍
AND the frozen bread😂😂 I eat them together😅
I use that boba syrup in my ice coffee
I love boba but I’ve never had great luck making it at home! lol
With the boba I knew you wouldn’t like it before watching 😂 if you go to a place, you can ask for it to be less or no sugar (which I always do)
"Pink Lady Crips"???? Speaking of Cosmic Crisp, have you seen Alex O'Conner is hawking AG1?
Anyway, Happy '25 :)
Also, isn't the bitterness in sesame seeds related to whether they're raw or toasted?
The boba is made out of just tapioca starch. They are a lot better fresh but yeah, like everyone else is saying: it’s just not the kind of texture you’ll like, fresh or not.
I hope this is not creepy to ask but do you dye your hair or are you taking anything for hair health? I'm 4 years older than you (and have only two kids😂) but I am sooo grey haired.
Oooh! I've been trying Trader Joe's snacks and the vegan ones are alwats things I check out because of you (even though I'm not vegan).
If the scallion Pancakes aren't crispy enough, try air frying them!
I prefer lychee jellys over the pearls myself!
No bueno, el final con las pelotas ES CINE 😂. Te amo 💘✨
I would love to see another best vegan news for 2024
Omg but I would actually watch an apple taste test!
I always microwave the bulgogi to unfrost, I enjoy it
Did you see Don’t die? Thoughts?
Any brown sugar flavoured boba is generally sickeningly sweet, i just have plain milk tea when i get boba and I find that much nicer. In general the instant ones usually suck imo. I've several brands and none of them were particularly nice. Far better having it from a boba shop
the ravioli is good in the air fryer.
