When my late sister was getting sores in her mouth from her cancer treatments, my mom was praying and praying for God to lead her to something that would help. L-lysine was the answer and worked wonders. Answer to prayer! I'm so glad it helped you too, Justine! 🤗❤
Lysine works for shingles also.
Works for me when I get canker sores.
Thank you for this!
I'm very sorry for your loss of your sister💔 Thank you for sharing that this helped her during her treatments. I also went through chemo but fortunately didn't suffer this side effect.
I am from North Carolina mountains. Originally my grandmother used to give us elderberry syrup mixed with warm tea when we were kids we were sick and yes, it does work, especially if you have a cold. Hope it works.
I agree with Ron about rural or country people being better off than city dwellers during the Depression. I spoke extensively with my grandparents and my father about living through the Depression. They said they never went hungry because the raised large gardens and always raised hogs for meat. They canned fruits, vegetables and even chicken and pork. My
grandfather said he grew more than necessary and could trade vegetables for other goods. We should all learn from our ancestors because we don’t know what tomorrow holds. Congrats on your wedding and house. Enjoy watching you two!
It must be fun to cook for Ron. It’s great to have an appreciative and enthusiastic eater! ❤️🇨🇦
The sweetest couple on the internet.Made for each other.
Mish Mish was front and center on the cooking video! 🐈⬛🐈⬛🐈⬛
Congrats passing 100,000.. it's well deserved!
I'll be trying this soup for sure. Married life looks good on you two ❤
I appreciate that Ron gave God the weather report in his prayer before eating.
My cat (who's identical to MishMish) also has tracker. It's been 3 years and I love it. I go get him and put him in when it gets dark. Best purchase ever to keep my kitty safe!
Honey in itself if medicinal and it's good for you and will not give you diabetes. The blend is great and you won't regret taking it everyday. We have used it for over 10 years and we have NOT gotten sick in all that time. The soup looked wonderful and it's always good to see Mish Mish.
That Ron is hilarious!! He says Justine will get rid of cold sores but then get diabetes 🤣. He has a great sense of humor! 😂
I recommended the lysine! Works great for fever blisters too. The first inkling of an itch, take 2 and then 1 a day for about 5 days. The fever blister won’t even form. It’s a miracle.
I've been making elderberry syrup for years, even my husband will take it when he's feeling sick. We love it!
Ron & Justine you are both Amazing people ! Don't know how you mange to accomplish everything that you do ! Have a great upcoming weekend ! 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
MishMish is so cute! I had to let my cat cross the rainbow bridge this Monday after already loosing her sister last year. Despite being catless right now, I still consider myself a proud unmarried cat lady nevertheless. You should get a GoPro on him and see his roaming from his very own perspective! This might be very interesting!
Cat ladies are the best! I never considered it an insult for anyone who cares and loves their pets. My Phoebe passed away after her 17th birthday in March, it is always difficult to lose a beloved pet. Take care, 🙏💕
@@mariemorgan7759 and to you, too!
Mish Mish is in his teenage years!
My brother’s cat has sore in their mouth and we’re give LLysine and they were better. I use it for my mouth sores. I have a bottle in my cabin at all times.
Lysine is an amino acids that the human body cannot produce on its own but that it needs to function correctly. It is necessary for various bodily functions, immune support is one of them. But you are right, taking Lysine can trigger acne, so only take as much as you need to keep the mouth sores at bay, you may have to experiment. And you may not need it forever, as you repair your immune system. Elderberry syrup can support immune function, it's high in vitamin C and anthocyanins(antioxidants). It is, however, very high in sugar and there are other ways to restore your immune system. Eating small amounts of probiotic-rich foods before or with each meal (like your Mom's yogurt, or sauerkraut, kim chi, miso, kefir, kombucha) will help restore gut balance, and your gut is the seat of your immune system. Healthy, balanced gut flora =healthy body.
Good point! Gut health and the immune system are connected closely so she may need some digestive/gut health support. Chew food very, very well before swallowing helps me and eat small meals. Dont drink cold liquids. Kefir is great.
I take Braggs apple cider vinegar daily. It has amazing health benefits. Take 2 tablespoons in a glass of water. The most important thing to remember is you want vinegar with the mother left still in. Braggs also makes capsules.
I'm sorry you are going through this because I've been there and it's painful. My doctor talked about the Epstein bar virus. Yes, our health is found in our gut.
Start growing it yourself. Easy to grow. They have special spoons like a rake that helps in harvesting. I take elderberry gummies. I took it regularly during Covid and never caught it!
Me too
Your journey with mouth sores has helped me enormously! I can't thank you enough for sharing your situation! Multiple dr visits gave me no real answers that helped. The very day I saw your first share months ago gave me so much relief, just to know someone else understands my situation. Praise God for you! And, yes your suggestions helped immediately!
Beef stock with carrots, potatoes, and onions in my crock pot is exactly what I do and as writing this you said it. One person I read somewhere that in the older days vegi stock was their "electrolytes".
When u take ur elderberry syrup, put it in a cup of fresh squeezed orange juice, it makes it easier to take.
It probably could have hot water added to it to make a sort of tea.
Have you tried making celery soup? I believe all ingredients would be period correct. We were certainly hesitant, but it turned out to be r favorite!
So Lysine supports the immune system it works against arginine which is an amino acid it helps your immune system . Also to be able to absorb calcium zinc also other minerals. Grandma said blackberries not elderberry but I will say that Ginger does help your immune system. What it comes down to it sounds like your body needs to be able to absorb all of these things and it's a balance
Oh good!!! I’ve been missing Mish? Or is that mishing Mish? Either way, I can’t wait to hear what’s happening!
I make my own elderberry syrup too. When I make mine, I don't put as much honey in it. Also I press the juice out of the berry pulp to get as much of the juice as possible. I take 1 to 2 tsp each morning and if I do get sick, I take 1 to 2 tbsp every 3 to 4 hours till I feel better. I personally believe it works just as good as store bought medicine. I read somewhere they did a study and it's as good if not better than Tami flu. I believe it. Oh, a tip on picking elderberry is to take a fork with you. Use the fork to "brush the berries off of their cluster stems.
Totally serious - when you started cackling at the end, the dogs woke up from a sound sleep, started barking, and ran outside! 😂😂😂
One thing I've heard about honey, is that if you use honey that is made by bees in your local area, it will help very well with allergies. Probably respiratory I am thinking. Just today I found a local farmstand which had honey from a local apiary, so I will be buying some asap. I personally also don't find a big difference using vitamin supplements, except for vit. C which is very helpful, but DO notice a good result with many herb remedies. That soup sounds lovely, and I think I'll give it a try. I wonder if it can be frozen? Likely so, and would be nice to have on hand with winter coming on!
Love your show today. The lit candle was blowing awfully close to Mr. rabbit early in the show. Careful. 😊❤
Justine, if you’re planning to take Mish Mish out to the new homestead to live with you, you have to get him accustomed to his new home or he might take a hike back to the cabin and his familiar territory. From what I understand you have to keep the kitty inside your house for several weeks so he can adjust to his new home base
You two are the most refreshing creators I've seen in quite some time. Thank you so much for sharing your love for historical America with the rest of us. Your enthusiasm is infectious. :)
I take elderberry syrup when I get a cold or garlic honey fixes me up in a few days
Thank you for the advise with the medicine Justine and Ron. I am a cancer survivor and I am rebuilding my immune system. I believe your natural recipe will help. You two have a great week. We here love your shows and watch all the time.
Prayers for your good health 🙏💕
I would like to see Mish Mish! Cannot wait to see your show and the history lessons! David and Rebecca Back.
The carving of a woman on the bow of a sailing ship was called a Figurehead. They were usually of mermaids or sirens because sailors believed they could calm the seas
Well since u guys read all ur comments I just wanna say u 2 r out there living ur best life! I love watching yall have fun! Ur blessed
I'm glad you're doing better, Justine. I hope the elderberry syrup helps. Mish Mish is your dog. He has to check out the property. Also, if he is hunting, that takes a very long time. Cats lay for hours waiting for the critters to come close to them. I understand the worry. He's family. Thanks for the great healthy soup! Take care
Sounds like Mish Mish is havin a good ole time roaming around, lol, he'll be just fine.
It’s called Lysine, pronounced Lie-seen, and it’s an amino acid. Hope it helps long term! Good luck!👍🏼🙏
I’m glad to know Mish mish is ok, was wondering……I live in Georgia and the Elderberries grown in over grown ditches. My husband and I harvested elderberries this year to make syrup.
Elderberry good for you in any way you make it. Honey is a natural antibiotic and anticeptic. Together they make a great cough syrup, and imune booster. You can make your own too.😊
Like Ron, I would not have thrown the solids out either. In fact, I would’ve blended the solids with the stock and put it right back in the pot! 😝
Sirens were women who sang bewitchingly, causing sailors to become so enrapt by their songs they would let go of the tiller or the wheel, causing the ship to crash into rocks or a reef. The famous Lorelei of the Rhine River in Germany is one such siren.
Sirens still exist today on land and sea and have ruined many a good mans life...
You do throw the solids away... when making the broth. Because broth takes longer to make, the vegetables have given up their flavor to the liquid... and the remaining solids are mushy and flavorless. That is why when you go to make the soup, you add fresh vegetables that still retain their flavor. Broths and soups are still made where you strain out the solids from the finished broth and add fresh vegetables when making the soup.
Ron congrats on 100,000 subscribers! Justine absolutely love your humor you crack me up everytime❤
Justine-I love the elderberry syrup! Dont underestimate the power of exercise (getting the heart rate up and sweating) and sufficient sleep and rest for healthy immune function! Seems obvious but I got sick a lot before i started power walking most days of the week. Make sure your iron and D3 level are in a good range too-getting daily sun on your skin can help with D3 but you may need to supplement that too. You’ll know it’s working because you’ll stop getting sick.
I was in a really crappy mood today and I just wanted to let you know that after watching this chew and chat it really lifted my spirits. You guys are hilarious 😂. I loved Justine’s description of a manatee. A dolphin hippo 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I bring my wandering cat in at night, so as to protect her from coyotes, raccoons, owls... it's funny that you call it a curfew, because that's exactly what I call it. Her curfew is before dark, because once dark hits, she's gone. I actually have an enclosure for my other two cats, who have been indoor cats their entire life, but she just doesn't want to be tied down. I'm so glad that the lysine worked! Your body must have been lacking it! I can't imagine the discomfort, so I'm really happy for you. Stress should never be underestimated at how devastating it can be to health. Make sure you are managing your stress! You two are adorable!!
Yes, I've been wondering where mish mish is!!
I thought elder berry syrup was for coughs! Not every day. Honey is also a remedy for coughs
Congratulations, Ron and Justine! You are a blessing to me!
Sounds yummy Can’t wait to see you both tonight and of course Mish Mish to 🙏🙏🙏❤️
Love your show. I worried about the poor stuffed bunny when the flame was blowing near him
Me too!! I was worried for a second!
Congrats on the 100,000 members. The soup sounds yummy. Good luck on your immune system.
I make Elderberry tincture to take everyday. I cook 1 C dried elderberries with cinnamon and ginger in 4 C water until reduced about half. Then strain out the berries. You should have about 2 C juice. To that you add about 2 C vodka. The vodka is a preservative just as honey is. The honey is good for your immune system, but for those who need to reduce their carbohydrate intake, you can use the vodka. Each day you put a tablespoon of the tincture in a glass of warm water - like a tea - and drink it.
Also, you should only have about a weeks worth of your syrup in your fridge. The rest needs to be in the freezer so it doesn't deteriorate .
Another great episode keep up the good work! Justine I have been using elderberry concentrate for many years to alleviate seasonal allergies and prior to that I used perscription medication and over the counter and they didn't work for me. I read about elderberry and decided to try it. I purchased the elderberry juice concentrate and would take 1 tsp with orange juice every day. It took about 3 months and it worked I no longer have allergies and its been working ever since. I hope it works for you too. (since then we have made our own elderberry concentrate a few times with the elderberries that grow wild locally.) Our first batch we cooked inside but the smell was over powering so we now cook it outside.
My Granny used to make meat "tea" when we were sick... it was essentially like your vegetable soup, only she strained everything out and did not ad anything back, we would just have the broth it would either be chicken tea or beef tea or pork tea and it really did help you feel better. Once you started feeling better she would add cream and eventually crackers.
"Beef tea" is also used to refer, in the UK, to a hot drink made with Bovril beef extract. Keeps them warm on cold days. Your granny knew what was good for you.
🎉I’m really excited for both of you and I’m really grateful for finding both channels over two years 🎉
In recent years I had a bad skin infection that I felt the need for medical intervention. I suppose the meds did help. But I ate a few bits or raw garlic & had the same sensation you described. My problem cleared up PDQ. The 'D' stands for darn not the other word......
Awwww that’s so cute of Mish Mish! That soup looks delicious! I’ll definitely try to make it this season! 🥰 Congrats on 100,000 subscribers!! 😊
Aww Mish Mish , you're being tracked! lol! Elderberry berries are a gift from God for sure.
I made a big mistake once and confused poke berries with them . I almost ate the poke berries but found out just in time. 😅
Hey Justine l lysine is an amino acid. Very good for you it is pronounced lye seen😂
The Vermont Country Store sells elderberry syrup, I need to buy some. You had me worried about Mish Mish! 🙏💕
Elderberry is top of the line supplement. My husband had a procedure in the hospital where he contracted covid. The treatment for that caused kidney disease and his immune system is compromised now. Elderberry is on the daily list. I use to buy the liquid, but now use the powder. Put it in his cereal, shake, smoothie or just plain water. L-lysine is not for me, had to avoid it (and the foods it contains) during my shingle outbreak. Glad it is all working for you. By the way, that honey is not just a sweetener, raw honey has many nutritional and healing properties. May you both have only good health always! Congrats on your new plaque, remember size isn't what makes it, the effort and results behind it is what counts!
Lysine, pronounced LIE-seen, is an amino acid. It's obtained by the hydrolysis (dissolution by water) of various proteins.
You guys are the BEST! Love you and SO GLAD you are feeling better Justine. 🤗Please, both of you take care of yourselves... looking forward to your next video!❤
I also think soup was made often for sick people as well and was intended to be sipped without chewing like a broth.
Love Mish Mish !
Enjoyed the video. I'm from Florida . If you ever come to Florida, be sure to come see our Manatees! You can also see some, " Mermaids" at Weekie Watchee 😂. I remember watching Ron ride up at the beginning of Frontier Patriot. Love you two❤❤
I’ve used Lysine for years and it really is amazing. I had a sore in my mouth with a tooth ache and it was crazy how quick it healed. I always have it on hand just in case. I’m so glad you found relief.
It's fun to see where cats wander during the day. Since he's an outdoor kitty, please make sure Mish Mish is up to date on his shots.
Also Justine; Congrats to you + Ron on making 1K members on this youtube channel. Thanks for making my week! I can’t wait to see when you guys make your 1 Million subscribers👏🏽!
You earned, and DESERVE that plaque!! You both are so great.
Congratulations on your milestone achievement!!
Congratulations on 100K!🎉✨🎉 I love seeing hard work and a great vision pay off. Another fun C & C in the books. Loved Mish Mish's adventures. Have a glorious week and be blessed, Rayfields! xoxo
The vegetable soup looks delicious. I’m glad that Mish-Mish has a tracking device. Taking about kitties, my Garfield do the same. Sometimes, I don’t see him for an entire day.
Thank you for showing us how to prepare elderberry syrup. I’ve never try it. Take care, Justine.
Interesting to know why the sailors named their ships after women. They saw the vessel was like the womb. Weird fact.
Congratulations Ron for the 100,000 subscribers.
I love soup, especially my home made soups. Coming from a home with a father, mother and grandmother in one house, German ancestry, we learned how to make everything from scratch. I always save any liquids from beef and chicken whether from slow cooker meals, chicken and dumplings, pork drippings, to begin and add to to make a great stock. I find the bullion called Better than Bullion to be the most flavorful.
You are both so sweet. I love your sense of humor.
Congrats on 100,000 subscribers, Ron and Justine! Well deserved.
Love the soup! I'll have to make it soon. 🙂
You both are great and so glad you reaching one hundred thousand ! We love to watch ! ahh Mish Mish we love him but he is all boy out adventuring! Glad you got the gps!
I would love 80s. We've had a few 89s, but ... I'm sooooo ready for fall!
So if you saw my comment on the early American video then …. FYI…. NOW I understand. Great chat! No solids in soup per 1800 recipes! Got it! This was a fancy middle class recipe then with its slivers of celery and carrots. Yummmmyyyy! 😊
Looking forward to tonight’s show, ❤
❤❤❤
You're right! If Mish had a camera on him it would be the coolest thing. Who needs a drone for footage. You've got Mish! I mean, it would be interesting. The elderberry syrup looks easy to make and I've heeard many people espouse its benefits. I'm interested in trying to make it. Thanks for another video. Your shows are very calming to my mind and soul.
Congrats on the plaque, you two so deserve it! I love having you on while I’m cooking dinner in the kitchen. I also download your Chewy and chats to listen to on my long commute to work. I am one of your early subscribers, I wonder what number I am?
Elderberry is the best I add acv to it for extra boost my kids take it everyday a shot glass full, from fall to spring and they have wonderful immune systems. And also try fermented honey garlic! Our family loves your videos and watching your journey. We are currently building our off grid cabin while.we are living in a tiny house, so love the house updates for ideas. 1800s history is our favorite ❤
Great chew and chat!!! Thanks for always sharing!!!!!!❤
I absolutely love both of you. Congrats on your viewership for both channels. For Justine, I would encourage you to investigate oxalate toxicity due to your vegetarian heavy diet for years. Sally Nortons' new book, Toxic Superfoods, is very well written and researched, and I feel it could be the key to your health issues. Ron succumbing to the soup is classic!
great video, Congratulations on 100,000... good job... y'all are just fun to listen to and watch. makes my day a little better.. Love the history and the receipes , Thank You both for all the hard work that goes into each video... love both channels...
Mish Mish is so lovely.
Omg y’all are hilarious! Hugs , love Ang big thanks for the knowledge and laughs! God bless!
I always look forward to your chew &chat videos thank you ☺️
vegetable 🥕 soup and Mexican cornbread that complement each other 😊
Yes! Yes! Elderberry syrup will help you immune system? I also make Fire Cider for the winter season and I always add dried elderberries. It also is great for the immune system, but it is the opposite in taste from the syrup.
I'm so glad the lysine worked for You Justine. That stuffs been around for years. Elderberries are also a power punch for immunity.
Congratulations on 100k subscribers! 🎆I agree with Ron about sealing the cooking pot. My French cousin used to make the typical Alsatian dish Baeckeoffe for us, and she used a simple flour-and-water crust to seal the baking dish and lid, and it was delectable.
I make my own elderberry syrup and keep it in the freezer. I put a big spoonful in my tea to cool it off a bit and sweeten it. I don't know how efficacious it is, but it tastes good and it couldn't hurt!
Congrats on surpassing 100K subs. 👍 Glad you’re mouth is healing, Justine. 💖 Such a cute Mish Mish. 💓 Thanks for your entertaining and informative videos. 😍
So interesting! Congratulations, guys!
Congrats on 100k!
As my user name shows, I'm a huge supporter of the use of Elderberry to strengthen the immune system. I take a shot of the syrup each day, and I can't remember the last time I got a cold or the flu.
Take care and God Bless.
PS - yes, a cup of honey does sound like a lot - but there are health benefits from taking in raw honey! Plus, you just take a shot of the syrup at a time.
Echinacea and Goldenseal Blend this combo is an all natural immune
System booster and we use to use it as a natural antibotic for when we had tooth infections and colds
Hi guys,
I make bone broth out of everything I cook or buy that has bones in it (that includes rotisserie chicken from Sam's club!) I keep all the bones in a Zip lock bag in the freezer till it's full, then cook it down with some water: perfect! I do the same thing with veggie peels to make veggie broth. Works like a charm and I don't have to buy any broth. Same with fish stock ( sorry Ron, does not apply to you); fish skin, fish heads and tails, shrimp tails and shells, even clam or mussel shells. Works for me and I have a stock pile of that in my freezer. In a pinch, I can make a soup in no time. You may want to try it. What refuse I have usually ends up in the compost. ( not the meat, obviously). Thanks for the great video: you're my Wednesday friends and I wouldn't miss you for the world ( exaggerating). Be well
When I buy rotisserie chickens I debone them and use the skin and bones to make stock. I freeze the stock to use in recipes and it’s so much better than the canned stuff you can buy.
We really like ur videos , always learn something. History is so interesting
Honey that is local to your area is amazing for you!!! It helps soothe coughs, sore throats, heals minor cuts and burns and help prevent allergies. My dad is a bee keeper and we ate honey on everything growing up and I never experienced seasonal allergies or hay fever until I moved out and like two years later I nearly died I had allergies so bad!! Once I started eating local honey again, on my toast or in my tea about a teaspoon a day I’ve never had allergy issues since.
Elderberry, Locally sourced honey & Zinc are the key to your best immune system ever!
Vegetarian is an old Native word meaning "Lousy Hunter" 😂 Oh, and the process of simmering the broth for hours, then straining out the solids to make a clear stock, was the first thing I was taught in Culinary School. By the time it simmers for that long, all their flavor is in the broth, not in the leftover mush. The alternate way is to blend it in to the broth, giving you a creamy broth instead of a clear broth - or, in your case, press it through the sieve, since you obviously don't have a blender in the cabin.
