Get some 91% isopropyl alcohol. Can get it from pharmacy stores. Just put a few drops into your analog sticks and other buttons. Cleans gunk and stick out super fast. No dismantle needed.
Any electric contact cleaner (like BW100) will do a superior job to isopropyl. Just use isopropyl to clean outside dirtiness but inside dirtiness is an ECCs job

The down button on the d-pad on my controller was bad, so I hit the left grip on my desk really hard and it fixed it. The grip panel flew off but I just snapped it back on. Percussive maintenance FTW.
Phew. I work in IT so know about cleaning internal laptop components and so i sprayed my controller with the isopropyl (need to find one with a straw like yours!) And i thought i screwed it up because now the buttons are getting more stuck. But it's got to know that i was fine, i just obviously didn't do the button tapping, repouring of iso, and retapping enough to get the buttons clean. 😅 It's nothing like doubting yourself and thinking you just screwed up your PS5 controller. 😂 Thanks for reconfirming how to clean this! ❤️

Thank you for posting! I didn't know about BW100. I have a couple controllers with sticky buttons. I never even used one of them bc the menu button was bad right out of the box. So hopefully this stuff will help

I started fixings friends controllers as a hobby and to save them some money and BW100 is awesome. The only time it didn't work was when I took apart a friend's and the button still kept sticking. As I took the controller apart further there was like a mm worth of weed resin from dirty fingertips.
Very common issue with the Xbox Elite controllers. A little speck of dust will break any button on this thing. It’s usually the bumpers and the A button but it’s an easy fix so still a good controller
This looks like an elite series 2 controller. I have owned 5 or 6 of these controllers(through returning and getting a replacement) and this issue will usually happen out of the box, or within a week or two of use at the least. While the fix illustrated in this video probably fixes the issue, the underlying problem is that it is unacceptably common on these controllers which cost $160 each. It is absolutely impossible for Microsoft to not know about this issue considering the amount of RMAs they have probably had to handle, yet there is still no kind of official fix to it and the controllers are still for sale everywhere.
Hey man I have an old school scuff controller that still has the scuff logo for the Xbox button that I would love you to take a look at. It was pretty expensive controller and could still be great again with repairs. It’s purple with red leds. I have no problem paying either but I have no idea how to get in touch with you and it could make for a decent short like this one
This is actually a design flaw that every series 2 elite and newer Xbox controller have for the last few years. Microsoft acknowledged it 2 years ago and probably never fixed it. Both my Series 2 elite controllers had this issue out the box as well as both stock controllers that my series x console came with. The A button on my xbone controller I use on PC started having issues a month after I bought it. It's not dirty. The controller is just trash. I used a 360 controller on pc for 10 years with no issues, and then a wildfire forced me to buy a new controller. Man I miss that 360 controller.
I have the elite series 2 and the ace buttons have been finnicky for a while. I cleaned it up once when I was replacing the buttons and it didn’t help for very long. The shoulder buttons occasionally stop working as well sometimes but it fixes itself after a while, still really annoying.

Which is why I was really happy when they started this electronics workshop in my town, teaching people of all ages to fix old and new electronics. New was a bit difficult but the point was to learn to fix and salvage stuff instead of just throwing it out.
Whenever I have any issue with my remotes like drift I just get rubbing alcohol and I pour it on the sides of the toggles/buttons and I press/do circular motions and that always fixes the issue for me.
i think someone said mine may have some kind of software issue. it doesnt register on that test website anymore, but when it did and i would press the RT button it also registers left thumbstick forward also. it also seems like RT may be cutting in and out. i try to play CREW 2 and Rocket league with my controller and in crew 2 sometimes the cars sound like the throttle is cutting out and they slow down. its kinda amusing sometimes, but its annoying. and in Rocket League holding the throttle in the air tilts my car nose down. there may be a tiny amount of stick drift, but that is for sure not my main issue. PowerA wired xbox one controller from walmart if that helps.
2 months ago, I bought a brand new Elite series 2 controller. Had to refund it cause I had the same problem. The A button doesn't work when I press it lightly. I went back to the store where I bought it and they said they will take the controller to the service center. I didn't buy a brand-new controller for 200 dollars just to get it fixed.

I think it's a design flaw. It is shorter than the rest. If you move it while it is pressed you can notice that it has more play laterally and up and down than other buttons. It makes it more problematic. If you are picky the touch of other buttons is different even when they are fresh new. I have cleaned mine and all of them are working properly apart from A button.
Just wait till it’s dry first before say it’s fixed. I’ve done this in the past with Xbox one controllers and it only ever temporarily fixed the issue.
So there is one other issue that I've noticed with the elite controller I've had mine for about 2 years now and it's an issue with the a button it's not always just pressing it super lightly it's pressing it on the edges of the button too that won't register

That's how repair works. You can repair it yourself or pay someone to do it for you.

I went through 6 of these controllers each of them a button didn't work out of the box swapped over to the core model and it worked no problems

They used to be a thin rubber or plastic of some kind above the actual button and over time I managed to cut the material with the button 😅

For the price, you should always tear the controller down and clean the components correctly. This spray is a shortcut and short term solution
