"This is the end do what you love" as someone who just marched their last show it made me flash back to every show I'd been a part of and now I'm sad. I teared up at the end, beautiful show, fantastic work!
Awh... I'm so sorry. I know that people love marching -at least some -*-cough cough, someone at my school cough cough-* and I didn't know that leaving would affect one so much. One of my sisters graduated last year, and she's auditioning for a music program at a college. She misses marching so much.
This the the best of the best. They put 13 weeks into just a championship. Nothing stops them. Their a team. They show they are number one. And this performance...wow.
After marching my senior year, I teared up a bit at the end. I decided to start in Dca corps and then dci. Being in marching band was so much fun. I just couldn’t. I love the enthusiasm from this marching band. “The end is what you love” as someone marched their last year making memories.
I am a rookie in my high school’s marching band! (Btw I’m a seventh grader) and I’m really excited for my first season! This just excites me for marching band!!!! (I also play Baritone/Euphonium)
This will probably be my go back to video to see how I can improve, because you're such a model! I play a high F at the end of our show this year same as 3:46, but I'm definitely going to work on making it project louder and clearer just like you did. Still got 3 more years as a freshman!
Open two windows. Play this and the high cam video simultaneously. Take a minute to sync them together. Great to show my middle school band what they're in for.
Yet I am only a freshman that's a bass drum and doesn't know too much about marching, your corps did amazing this year! I can't wait till the point I try out for a corps and the last show I will ever march. I wish you good luck to any other shows if you haven't aged out yet!!
I marched my first season with Gold this season (open class corps), and I will tell you, you will definitely NOT look forward to your last show that you march. very sad day. Try out soon, you will love it!
This is pretty sweet. Thanks for sharing! I was blown away when I saw that a rehearsal was interspersed with performance. I still have nightmares from time to time where I get thrown into a show that I didn’t prepare for.
This was weird to watch and people said Mellophone isn't an important instrument 😴 I play Mello but where I come from we play on F. Horn Mouthpieces with an adapter... Anybody else?
I use mostly a Horn adapter but very rarely I use trumpet. But honestly I'm looking into saving up to buy the blue system mellophone mouthpiece which is the one uses in this video.
Very late response. But my freshman year I played on a horn mouthpiece with an adapter. I then this year as a sophomore moved onto a mello/trumpet mouthpiece. I found it easier on my high range and helped my endurance. Just takes a little practice to get used to. Very glad I made the switch.
@@AComplexMexnone of them held it that long. They were separated in groups and each group played for 4 or so counts and each group was assigned to breathe at different times
I did the same thing right when band camp started for my freshman year (I’m a sophomore rn in high school). I’m loving mellophone with a passion. I’m also thinking marching dci( blue devils) when I get out if high school. I think you’ll love it even tho you might of already switched. Mellophone is the best.
Are you a trumpet player if so do you have any tips on how to play consistently higher on a mello mouth piece I have a high C sharp to a high C in my marching band show this year and it’s very hard for me to get those 2 notes consistent.
Steven Fudacz long tones my man. Go as low as you can and hold it, and go as high as you can and hold it. It might not seem like it’s helping but I guarantee you’ll notice a difference :)
Got any tips? I'm auditioning for the Colts this year, I have been digging into the audition pieces, but I'm wondering if there is anything else I should be prepared for. Thanks! Also, good stuff, love a good Mello cam (its what I play).

What type of mouthpiece is he using on the mellophone, im a sophomore in high school that started playing the mellophone and my band instructor gave me a fugelhorn mouthpiece cuz we had no mellophone ones
There is marching mellophone mouthpieces that are way easier to play on and make playing strong and full way easier. You can get good ones on amazon for anywhere from 30-50 dollars
Trevor, I have recently tried using a go pro to take a video of myself during marching band. For some reason, my mellophone sounds really bad and almost like an earape. Any suggestion to change settings? (I have a go pro hero 7 black)
Would you guys take woodwinds in the near future? I’m a Tenor sax marching in High school, but I do have experience with mallets and not so much marimba.
Flipperzz Sorry bud, no. There are no wood winds in drum corps. Brass, percussion and guard. It was only up until recently when trombones started being used also, but they've only been used for features and solos in a show.
Flipperzz My horn sergeant from an open class corps I was in plays primarily bassoon but she marched baritone in Boston Crusaders in '16 and Colts in '17. So it's possible. Some trumpet players I know i know in drum corps play sax or other instruments too. But what I see with some woodwind players in school marching bands is that they tend to drag down their right shoulder and it just looks very bad. Some trumpet player in the open class corps had that going on with his marching technique. Just looks bad. So if you're going to try for euph some day, just make sure you sound and look good lol
Flipperzz Your height doesn't affect your horn angles and your overall posture lol. Trust me. I saw Jersey Surf walking around before at a couple competitions and those guys are short. I mean really short lol. You'll be fine.
