    So glad I have been able to convince you to get one too, it really is a sublime kit.
    Dont worry about the paint, I am going to have to sand the bloody thing all over now looking at the differance in the rivet finish, really is like chalk and cheese!
    Time to go and get a load more 2000 Grit in.............

    Great point and demo on the rivet/skin texture from an ex-RN Sea King maintainer. Pleased Airfix have shone a spotlight on this subject and done it’s so well. I’m far from a fan of Airfix but kudos to them for this kit.
    Oh, Jen it’s a hoist not a winch😂😂

      Don't come bursting in here with your Navy words dammit! I'm quite sure that we crabs call the loadie a winchman/operator don't we? I expect looking after these things was all sorts of fun :-)

      @@JenesisDesignsandModelcraft The RAF do call their rear crew winch Op’s, but you are the junior service and very secondary modern😂😂 You’ll be calling the foot pedals on a helicopter rudder pedals🤬, makes my piss boil when I hear reviewers say this.
      Back to the hoist, if the 731 says hoist, the data plate says hoist and the maintenance manual and manufacturer calls it a hoist then it’s good enough for me😂😂
      Just going to drop this here…
      The main difference between winches and hoists is how they pull what is attached to them. Winches are meant to pull a heavy load horizontally. Pulling a car out of a ditch or pulling one up onto a trailer would be a perfect job for a winch. Hoists are meant to lift a heavy load vertically.
      Love the vids and the techniques, keep it up Jen👍

    You pretty much nailed the rivet issue for the "rivet counters."😉
    Thank you.

    Great review. Didn't change my mind, as I have already SEVERAL schemes I want to do as soon as they show up in Canada.
    Cheers!

    Got mine from my local model shop a couple of weeks ago - looking through like you have - it is amazing. I'm glad you took a look at it and I will definitely try you technique regarding the skin between the rivets. As you say, the imperfections are not there around the engine covers or on the tailboom (I may just be impressed that they have paid attention to the overlapping skins on these pieces!). This is going to be a bigger challenge than the Buccaneer last year - probably up with the 1/32 Matchbox Puma back when I was still in my teens!

    great review as always jen. wow flatting the airfix plastic is an incredible difference.

  • @olivieraubault

    The improvement is great after flattened the surfaces. The rivets gone very crisp.

  • @memkiii
    @memkiii ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The panel difference between textured and flatted is pretty pronounced. Thanks! Now you have given me another work load I have to complete before finally messing up my paint job spectacularly.
    I'm fairly sure the blades are thin enough that they will droop under their own weight, and if it was moulded in, the blades would look completely wrong when folded, or require a second set of each type. Once again, no crewmembers, quite important if you are supplying a kit that can be made in flight. At least make some add-on sets for your aircraft! More importantly... When are we going to see a Wessex and a Puma AIRFIX!

    • @bugler75
      @bugler75 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I totally agree about optional crewmembers.
      My scale is 1/72 and I have used PJ Productions in Belgium for Aircrew. Easy to deal with and good quality.
      They have a Lynx Crew set in 1/48 for €18 which may be of use but may need some work.
      I hope this is of use 😊

      Massively agree on the Puma and Wessex, would love to see those done in this scale! Figures apparently cost a lot to tool for, which is why they don't get included very often. I agree though, I'd like to see them in more kits.

    That tip on the texture of the Airfix plastic is gold, Jen. Would evenly done swipes with say, 1,200-grit or 2,000-grit sandpaper do the trick? With anything rougher I would be worried about accidentally sanding off detail.

    I think airfix for the most part is a good value in the hobby in your opinion who makes the best Lancaster in 72 scale

    • @JenesisDesignsandModelcraft
      @JenesisDesignsandModelcraft  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well I can only respond with my own experience, but there are three modern (ish) 72nd scale Lancaster kits out there. Revell, Airfix and Hasegawa. I have built the Revell and Airfix versions, and of those two the Airfix is hands down the winner - better in every way. I have only seen the Hasegawa kit in the box and it certainly looks nice. I think that decision might come down to price and availability in your region. Here in the UK, the Airfix kit is still cheaper although not by all that much these days. I've built two Airfix ones, and enjoyed the kit and the finished model enough that I don't hanker after building a Hasegawa one .....

    Thank you for one of (if not the best) analysis regarding the rivet issue. I have watched pretty much all the YT content on this trying to decide if this kit will be my first helicopter kit ever.

    Still waiting for this kit to make it here in the US. Always enjoy your reviews and was wondering if you ever got the Westland Lynx kit from last year? I would be interested in your take on that kit.

      I don't have a Lynx kit, no. I do have a passing interest in the subject for sure, but haven't ever picked that one up so far.

    Thanks for the review. That does look very good indeed. I'd love to build one of each, but I think I'd also need to get an extension to the house to fit them in. What the hell? Who needs a bedroom anyway?:-)

    You've ruined the poor guy's part... Now he'll have to sand smooth the whole thing. 🙂
    I've been thinking if I needed one of these myself too.
    As a matter of fact I already have two Sea Kings in 1:72nd (Revell and Cyber-Hobby) and was pondering about getting one in the same scale from Airfix... The fact that one can build this one with folded rotor straight from the box makes it very attractive in 1:48th.

    Jen you are so right about rivets. Personally I actively dislike them and consider rivets another fad forced on us by the hobby fashionistas. BTW I love "Helicopterists" made me laugh out loud. Cheers from the Cranky Canadian.
    The new Seaking is not my scale but again looks like another great kit from Airfix and as always really enjoyed the video.

    A rather boring looking model kit I must say. That's because I don't like helicopter kits especially. Most companies fail when it comes to rivet molding. They are usually way out of scale I think. I enjoyed your take on this kit however.
