- The Westland Sea King formerly the Sikorsky SH-3D, the first Westland produced aircraft flew in May 1969 destined for the Royal Navy. Over 300 have been built in various marks and continued in service well into the 21 century.
I "flew" a Sea King on many missions....in my parents' back yard. It was a die cast DINKY model in light grey West German markings with battery op rotor and working winch.
This film is after 1970 when the Ark was refitted with the 8.5deg angled flight and bridle catchers, this enabled her to operate Phantoms and Buccaneers.
Great footage of such a great chopper. 6.39 min what a great bit of control on a tight deck.
Thank you for watching and glad you enjoyed the video.
Flew in one at Boscombe Down in the 1980's GREAT machine to travel in. Thank you for the video. :)

That ship is the r09 ark royal isnt it??
Hello Doninustaker1
Yes I do belive the ship is the Ark Royal
you get both Ark Royal R09 and Eagle R05 plus helicopter training shipRFA Engadine and a Tiger class cruiser.
@@davidbirt8486 I didn't spot a Tiger class cruiser but there is a destroyer at 3:03 which I believe is either HMS Cavalier or Caprice which had been fairly recently upgraded to carry Sea Cat missiles at the time.
