      in British Columbia MOST of the hot springs are undeveloped, but were homesteaded years ago by locals, loggers, and/or Hydro. The deeper into the bush, the better experience and the more interesting the people you meet. Also, kept clean by most. You wont see the mountains of garbage you see at the USA springs.

      Well, there's concrete, campsites, ropes, a road, trails, etc. but yeah, "undeveloped" :)

    • @4Runner123
      @4Runner123 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@JosiahRoe there’s no actual campsites there. The road is strictly logging road that goes from logging areas to lake no way to drive in. Thanks to people yes concrete was used to create the perfect hot tubs. Can’t remember who did the work ,but in order to do that definitely not an easy job.

    • @lifeofluke
      @lifeofluke  3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @mark o Shout out to those people, because without the concrete there would be no hot spring pools to soak in

    I spent a summer/fall up there in the 70's with the International Pacific Salmon Commission. I stayed at the hatchery for a few days but couldn't stand the cooks grub. I got sent to the logging camp (Alvin) where the food was a waaay lot better. The Postmistress of Alvin and her husband ran a speakeasy where we spent most nights. It was as well stocked and entertaining as any pub in town. We saw Grizzly, Beaver, Coyote, Cougar, Black Bear and lots and lots of Sockeye Salmon. We were on the river every day and it was one of the best experiences of my life. We never got to go in the hot springs however, because we were working every day. Thanks for the trip back, I would love to make it up there again one day.

      @@Hal-ef1je the people are kinda gross. Homeless encampments everywhere and a serious drug problem. All the good people left when communist china regentrified an already beautiful city. It's unusual to run into a Canadian in b.c. usually it's some wealthy migrant trying to exploit the place. Also the few Canadians u do meet are all trust fund kids from Toronto and Quebec. I think bc is a perfect example of multiculturalism failing and it's destroying the beautiful nature that makes bc so great.

      @@jarastafaria3088 Which province and city doesn't have homeless encampment and drug problems? The fact that B.C.'s fair weather plays a big factor and an ideal place for homeless to encamp. Can you picture homeless people in Toronto, Quebec, Winnipeg during winter season? Also when you say unusual to run into a Canadian, you mean Caucasian? The fact that B.C. is a multicultural city is what makes it unique and beautiful. Having to experience different types of ethnic foods and cultures is what separates us from other provinces. There's plenty of Canadians everywhere you go, I'm sorry that they're not all white people as you prefer. B.C. is thriving and definitely not a failure when it comes to multiculturalism. You seem to have a problem with Asian take over, don't blame them. If you want to point fingers, perhaps Canada immigration may help explain to you what our role as a country in taking in the number of immigrants entering the country. It's similar in Toronto, Quebec, Montreal and Calgary.

    Been to the hot springs twice. Amazing back then too but no one tenting in those days. Spent a lot of time on Pitt Lake and river in the mid 80's & much of the 90's. In-Laws bought the old town of Alvin. Now a fishing lodge. Lost 4 friends in the lake. Never did find them. I have lots of respect for that Lake as it can get nasty real quick. Well done canoeing the entire lake to the log dump, then biking to the hot springs. There used to be a fish hatchery up there as well. Loved that whole place. Very wild. I always felt Pitt Lake was so far away but yet so close. I see all the vehicles parked up at the head in your vid. it looks very busy up there these days. Even 2 years ago.

    Great video. Gave me some flashbacks to my first trip to those exact hot springs back in the 90's. We were a group of 4 and my Golden Retriever. I remember the 20ft boat we were in, striking a sand bar as we entered Pitt Lake during low tide. Luckily there was about 1ft of water above the sandbar so it didn't damage the hull. We had to get out onto the sandbar and push the boat back into deeper water. As we were doing this, we realized the tide was still going out so we had to hurry or else we would've been stranded on it lol!!

      @@onelegwest lots and lots of stories. The problem with Pitt lake is it’s always cold unless in shallows mid summer. Wind usually comes up twice a day caused by the valley and temperature changes. Most accidents happen from inexperience and alcohol. I have no issues about people drinking out on their boats ,but not good when the driver is! People buy a new boat go out on the water without knowing what they are doing! If you want a good laugh just go watch any boat launch since that’s where it all starts.

    used to go here all the time as a kid. grew up across from the boat launch for 12 years as a kid. generator power and had to pump water from the lake, no cable or internet. anyways we would take a boat up to the logging docks, then had a beater truck. the trip would take a few hours with them. just curious as to how long it took to to boat the bike as i want to back there. been over 20 years now. 1:08 most of the cabins looked like this, lots were extended over years. the A frame cabins, i lived in one of the bigger project cabins.. btw that channel doesnt go all the way through, it just goes to the cabins, your lucky it was high tide as thats all mud flats during low tide. as you can see on you way back when your walking on it. thats still high.
