The Borla ProXS I have on my TBSS sounds like a monster. He was likely not getting the flow he needed from the small pipes….. And for all of you arm chair QBs, you can put whatever rims, etc on yours when you get one. Let that man live.
I understand why he went with the catalytic converters on this car. It's a classic body with all the modern accessories inside and out. The only issue I have are those horrible wheels but outside of that it is a nice setup. I had a '72 Chevelle SS back in the 90s but it was more basic. 396 big block with a TH350 automatic transmission. It had gears, shift kit, high stall torque converter, and a full header back exhaust system. Ran low 13s which was pretty fast back then. Sold it back in 2003. I missed that car.
Depending on where he has it registered might need the cats for smog... besides his reasoning, even though its a 72 (pre-smog) I'd be surprised if the EPA etc doesn't clamp that loophole of a swap not really legally requiring a cat/smog because the "VIN" states it's pre-75.. BUT I can't skip the cat joke because they were "Made in China"..
@@NXT_LVL The year of the engine and transmission doesn't matter to the EPA. They go by the body year. If it's pre smog then you don't have to worry about catalytic converters regardless of how new the engine is. He did explain that he didn't like to smell of the car when it first fires up with all the gas fumes. That's understandable. I'm used to it so ain't no big deal for me. I would have kept the catalytic converters off.
@@AdmiralRustyShackleford Unfortunately he couldn't. It has an aftermarket suspension in the back that takes up most of the room to route the tail pipes over the axle. There are some shops that can make it work but this shop is not one of them.
Sounds good my 2007 Chevy Tahoe LT has duel Flowmaster 40 Series from the cats back and sounds awesome everyone knows when it's me they here me before they see me been using Flowmaster muffler for over 30 years and to me have the best sounds and horsepower gains
Ryan finally commented on a car that was made before he was born. He should have compared it to a stock Malibu. That is the base model for the Chevelle SS. Oh well..
Great videos showing before and then after. Keep up the great work. I love those black widows. those are the best sounding mufflers, there all tone and no drone!
Chevelles and Novas both for me. I really don't think they are a head turner but every now and again there is certain combos on those cars that just next level. That silver for instance on a Chevelle or the more Track / Attack looking Novas are so nice.
Nice. Sounds great. I get my race venoms tomorrow. Can't wait to get my car back. Getting holley sniper efi system installed. Plus the race venoms. I'm stoked. Love the vids. Helped me make my decisions with a few of my cars.
Having an exhaust end right before the rear end makes major fumes. I hardly drive mine since I did that in 2009. It did make quicker 1/4 mile times tho.
Man do I want one of these my dad had one when I was a kid all yellow and he was going to put the two black racing stripes on it by his brother who owned a car paint shop but had to sell it before he could
You guys did a nice job redoing the exhaust on this 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle. You guys did 3" exhaust from the headers back all the way through. The exhaust is neat and clean. The Black Widow mufflers gives it tone and a clean exhaust note.
It would sound Super better with the 40 Series FlowMaster Exhaust !! 💯💯 With 2.5 inch pipe with No Cat Converters.....It would sound like a true Beast !! 💯💯
It goes with the territory. If you put it out there for other people to comment on you got to take the good with the bad. That being said I wish Barrett Jackson hadn't made these cars so GD expensive even in basketcase condition. When I was a teen you could still buy these cars for under $1000 and they were still driveable. Now you can't buy a rusted out POS for less than $5K.
Thought about cats on my Galaxie 500 as the fumes are nasty in the garage! But wonder how the Chevelle would have sounded with just the cats and pipes out the rear?!
crazy how before it was 2-2-1/4" no cats and it was 109db, then with 3 inch high flow cats and 3.5inch muffler it was 114-116db even with cats couldnt imagine if he kept the cats off would be 120db+
Those borla mufflers are quieter too. No I get your point the bigger exhaust is definitely louder but was just trying to make a valid point that those mufflers are also way louder than the borla pro xs
Oh Hell No! Nope, this is totally unacceptable!! You can barely hear this car and sounds no different than a stock Buick Enclave, and that's a damn shame 😒Owner should have just removed the headers and run open manifolds, which is hands down the best setup and provides optimal back pressure and improved carburetor CFM and performance on these 1972 Chevy Chevelle SS Cammed 6.2L's.
it’s a problem with those cheap amazon x pipes that people may not be aware of. they have the correct inlet/out whether it’s 2.5 or 3” however they neck down smaller internally. i haven’t bought one in forever but they’ve never been like this. i just returned the one in the description and ordered another one off ebay but i fear it’s going to be the same way when it comes.
I’d just do a muffler delete cut off cats and just straight pipe it and an off road x pipe would make it sound like a monster buying mufflers is to expensive
Chevelles are supposed to have big blocks IMO. It's a heavy car, it needs the torque. My car with headers and Borla ProXS sounds great, definitely louder than what he had. You can run 3" over the axle too, I've done it to my 69, which is pretty much the same as a 72. Mines louder than his after too, then again I make a lot more power than this car.
Heh, Personally, I love the smell of un-catalyzed exhaust

Run the system out to the bumper and you won’t smell it so badly inside the car.

If you properly tune the a/f ratio, injector timing with the camshaft and ignition timing.the exhaust wouldn't stink and wouldn't need cats.
