See you next week for some smooth bushcraft vibes!
Jäger hat das beste Hundeleben was man sich nur wünschen kann, immer draußen erlebt Abenteuer und freut sich seines Lebens. Das ist einfsch nur schön zu sehen, jedes Mal 🎉🎉👍
He was talking about getting lots of Children in the last minute for some slave labour xD maybe Lilly is interested? Need to make two roundhouses then!
I like how in my Archaeology degree we did a section on Iron age round houses but never covered anything interesting like the construction methods/tools that can be seen in these videos. I swear I've learned more from these video's than my lectures. Keep up the good work guys!
Peat used to also be a common material for roof making here in Finland and it is still to this day used to produce energy by burning it. Which is understandable, as 28% of Finland's ground area is swamp/bog. 🙂
Hello boys from Johnny in the USA 🇺🇸 pleasure to meet fellow outdoors man that share the same passion as I do I will be follow your journey when I can . Will be uploading new videos every weekend to my channel as well comeing soon . I love your style of filming 👍 you also have inspired me to invest in a DRONE as well to get more cinematic shots . Maybe in the future we can calab till then take care new friends . sincerely Johnny
Great video guys, good to see you back in action, thanks for explaining the tools and the Irish words for them and the history and how it's tied to the land, your enthusiasm is infectious, you may want to check out the Somerset levels where there is a similar history of bog work, I've seen some of those tools as ornaments in the pubs, they used to stack the turf sods in a bee hive shape so that the wind and the sun can dry them quicker, it was all explained in the rural life museum and the Somerset levels museum where they built two celtic roundhouses, they may have this info online!
Wow. This whole video was fantastic. I'm not exaggerating when I say that this could have easily been an episode of some TV documentary show. I'm always impressed with you, but today even more so. Thank you!
I love the experimental archaeology approach you took. When you said the tool should have an extra piece of wood so that you could give it a kick, that might be a thing they did back in the day. It could be that it just didn't survive in the archaeological record.
Duuudes those epic drone shots! Editing was amazing. Glad to see u guys back! I felt the cold just watching 🥶. Thanks guys, The dedication is seriously appreciated! ☺️
Hey guy, love the roundhouse so far! So some of my research has shown (based on my opinion, so grain of salt) that part of the reason the roofs are not readily found is that once the scraw was cut (sometimes triangles vertically and sometimes wrapped horizontally in strips) and laid that layers were added on top. First a very thin (for a roof) layer of thatching for the winter (ideally when you would be finishing) would be laid down and a variety of seeds and sprouts were planted. These begin to either germinate or root, which ends up sewing the pieces of scraw together and lacing them to the roof! (but you need to use short root plants and grasses, no trees!) This is then further added onto for later when the inside has dried quite a bit and the inside of the panels can then be used for mushrooms. As well, the hanging roots would make an excellent lattice upon which to hang various herbs, fruits and lightweight tools. Over time the weight of the sod and the additional bonds created by the roots would make for an extraordinarily strong roof, but would slowly cannibalize itself until it needed to be replace every 8-15 years, a tradeoff for the need to replace true thatching every other year or so. Granted this could be complete hookum, but I've found no flaws in the theory thus far.
Hee toppers . Kan niet wachten tot we weer meer video's kunnen bekijken van jullie heb alle video's terug gezien denk aan wel 3x dus kan niet wachten tot de volgende
Blessings from the US (Wisconsin). Love these historical builds. As a small farmer that farm tool/plow is fantastic. I use a permanent raise bed now till system that that tool be great when taking our sod.
The cinematography is on another level with this one guys, well done! those winter drone shots are gorgeous. This video feels like you guys leveled up.
I assumed that you guys were taking a break from filming/editing but was still worried about you. Glad that you're back because I'm addicted to your channel & look forward to seeing the roof being done.
Hey, I had a thought as far as attaching a stirrup to that tool so you can push it with your foot. You could bind some kind of cordage to the crook of the Y, and then at a comfortable length, tie it off onto the lower shaft, near the spade -- from that, hang a loop maybe with a bit of an actual stirrup to it, so the foot can rest in there and you'll get good leverage without compromising the integrity of your handle. Cheers, and keep up the great videos!
Yessss! Well done guys glad your back. Been checking for round house update constantly lol. Can’t wait to see you start putting the materials on the roof
Damn it's good to have you back guys! Thank you for the episode, that turf roof is gonna weigh tonnes, literally. Would it make sense to reserve it for the lower third so it's supported by the stonework and use the reed thatch for the unsupported timbers over head? Missed your lunacy lads!

Welcome back!
Now I wish I had more than a very basic level of knowledge about editing so I could help out.
I hope you find someone qualified that is able to help.

He was talking about getting lots of Children in the last minute for some slave labour xD maybe Lilly is interested? Need to make two roundhouses then!
congratulations on a sponsor , the snow covered roundhouse is simply beautiful
and if you use a Medieval JCB to transport the turfs to site that's fine by me
Worth the wait. I wonder what Jaeger was thinking while digging in the mud. Perhaps thinking of his own round dog house.
The boys are back!!!!!!! Great video guys! Let me know when i can book the roundhouse on Airbnb!!!
Yoooo that's a fantastic idea man! I'd absolutely book that.
This could be an actual way to make some coin. If I could, I'd book a week, but, you know, american covid...
Welcome back boys, where is Dylan, by the way?
❤
Ive never seen a man less excited about a sponsorship 😂😂😂😂
That's one of the funniest part! xD and Jaeger splashing the water
Good to see Jager pulling his weight
Looks like you're enjoying the dry climate.

"I'm helping."
Seriously this channel has got to be one of the most undersupported on patreon. Considering quality of the content they should get 10x more.
