    Bump this guys, this will help them a lot with their sawing.
    You can buy wax for your saw to help it saw smoother, and reduce the amount of catch/jamming that you encounter. If you want an iron age solution, Pig fat/grease was often applied for the same result. It really helps with those aggressive toothed saws.

    • @MiloKolb
      @MiloKolb 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sawyers usually spray some kind of lubricant I’m not sure what it’s called though. You can also use wedges at the top if it’s a big log

    • @gus23a
      @gus23a 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It all depends on the set upt of the saw. If it is really sharp and the tooth set like they should be, there should be no binding. Most of these saws need quite a lot of tweaking to get them to work right, even when they are brand new like this. All of them need to be sharpened first at least.

      They are using a hardwood saw. It will bind with soft woods .

    quick little tip on the crosscut saw; when drawing towards you dipp your hands and when pushing raise them up; you sort of make an infinity sign or a number eight on it's side; that gives the saw more force for biting into the wood without bogging down so you can remove chips faster.
    it also lets you make longer strokes as you don't need to push and pull so fast.

    You guys rock! I've been working on a small mortarless rock wall and a rock and clay chimney and I have worn out two pairs of gloves! Also with the saw. I learned something which might help you. The large spaced teeth work best for soft wood and the small spaced teeth on the saw are for hard woods. I have been stripping the bark off the trees for the walls of my house too and wondered if they were going to crack because they are green. Then just today my dog dug out the dirt I had carried in for leveling the floors and foundation for the walls. I . could identify with everything in this video! But I am working on a much smaller scale. I am a bushcrafting grandmother and I love your videos

    • @Gigachadly
      @Gigachadly 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      But can’t you basically just push the wall over if there is no mortar or clay or supports?

    • @lynneninas627
      @lynneninas627 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Gigachadly you fit the rocks together tightly by moving them and choosing the right ones. You can also knock off any odd extensions. There are rock walls everywhere built without mortar that have stood for centuries

    For spruce or conifer I have found that a saw blade designed for dry wood works best, or anything with small uniform teeth. The blades with big elaborate teeth (that are great for fresh hardwood) tend to get stuck easily.

    Nice crosscut saw! I recommend you keep the blade waxed while using it. The wax really helps prevent sticking. A big candle stub or a small block of paraffin is all you need. As the blade heats up from the friction of sawing and starts to stick, rub the wax across both sides of the blade. It will melt a bit and lubricate it, making cutting much easier. Also, it should cut much quicker when used two man. So long as it is kept sharp that saw is a log cutting monster!
