- Hey Guys! This video will be about the Notorious Deacon Brodie! He lived a double life, and was the inspiration behind the Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde novel!

Brodie's downfall was his gread. He already had more than most and had the respect of the people in his life. Foolish.
What a guy! But yes UNSOLVABLE...... you got any theories if he lived or died?
@@historyprofiles My theory has always been that he died at the gallows. Yes, maybe he bribed the hangman to put a metal collar on him to save his life.. but what an effort when the hangman could simply agree, take his money and do nothing but let him hang.. no repercussions! It is how things were back then.. dog eat dog (and maybe that hasn't changed much 😖😞)
@@pimpozza I was thinking that, but then I thought maybe he had stashed money and other valuables somewhere else. Especially considering he fled before getting caught unlike his accomplices. That would mean, in order to get their bribe, he would have to live. But, how would he hide a metal collar? However, I've never heard of a prisoner having money on their person either. So, that leads me back to him living in order to give the guard and hangman money.
Brodie is just like Batman, only he went the other direction. Give the guy a break...he was just bored of the normal quiet life. And how the hell do you fall asleep during a robbery when you are the lookout.

Double life ... Jekyll & Hyde I have the book by Robert Louis Stevenson & I luv all those Jekyll & Hyde movies ... a timeless story line, though the tale is a short story not a book length work ...THX History Profiles I'll make a note of this inside the book cover

I’m from Edinburgh and funnily enough ‘The Deacon’ is where you go for a drink to celebrate not being jailed after appearing at the Sheriff Court!

A fascinating tale! My dad was Scottish 🏴 so I especially love stories like this! Thankyou HP 👍 Really enjoyed it.. Brodie was a sleepy devil!! My brother recently sent me pics with my nephew from the Deacon Brodie pub as he was visiting relatives in Edinburgh.. wonder if Brodie really made it to Paris 🤔
