The grooves on the black thing are for folding. You fold it to make a little "wall" that you then press the back of the unit against, then it can follow the wall and make straight prints.
The compatible HP ink cartridges are 62 CMY (C2P05AE) and 804 (T6N09AA) CMY, both standard and XL (C2P07AE/T6N11AA), with HP 64 (N9J89AN/N9J91AN) being optional, but not recommended due to different color order (all alternative to the Princube 'standard ink', i doubt there's one from HP for the gel-based 'permanent ink' one, so order extra of that if you buy the Princube!). Mr. Novaspirit promised to give that info in the description, but forgot. Princube *used* to give this info on their Indygogo site in the FAQ, but now they don't anymore. As a backer, I sure hope that's cause they want to sell more of their "own" (?) ink cartridges and not because they actually removed compatibility with the HP ones...

Did you eventually get to a level where it is error free? Also if possible can you recommend any similar devices that may print a little larger size like 2-3 inches?

I really hope you can test more though.... Geekbuying did a good video about the printer: it clearly cannot print on any surface!!! It does a pretty good job on paper, cardboard, raw wood, your clothes, bags etc, less good on metal, glass, plastic or leather phone cases, ceramics and rough hard surface in general, bc you have to wait it to dry and it can be wiped out easily, not good on your skin at all! Impossible to print those so-called tattoos!

Apparently not. Have you read the comments on their IGG campaign page? It seems that the ink they supply is not permanent and does not dry on glass, plastic or metal.
It's the same as all Inkjet ink made by HP. It will adhere to most paper, but not all surfaces. You'll have to test it on specialty surfaces for permanence before committing to full print runs.
This demo made it seem like I'd have to clean the print heads after every image I print or the first print of a new image will be messed up. The rest of the concept is cool, but I'm gonna wait until they get that part fixed (otherwise, claiming 400+ pages is actually 200+ pages given the bad prints).
The indigogo campaign is a tremendous success, going over 3million. But I don't think they knew they would have had this much success so I will probably wait till the dust settles and a refined version will come out or the high volume production will show success.
Actually, it looked more like the ink had dried onto the head and prevent the N from fully forming. It doesn't appear to be color from the previous print. If you're concerned previous color bleedthrough, then use the brush provided to clean the head between prints.
You may want to add a new video about how thegodofthings company has gone silent and is not shipping these to people who paid for them anymore. I'm out $150 personally. Could really use the support of influencers like you to get indiegogo to look into scammers like this. It's way too frequent. Your review is great, but would hate for other people to get scammed, since they are still selling this on their site.
Got mine (not the permanent ink though), its total garbage. And they got silent as hell at thegodofthings. Don't know if my ink has dryed or if the printer is bad. Printed like 2 strips when new, other then that it has struggled every single time! DO NOT BUY IT!
EDIT: Got it to work with a couple of really hard swings. BUT the ink litterly dries and cloggs the printhead under 1 minute! Have to clean and reswing after leaving it for 30 seconds.

Smudges happens on all printers. so do what you will normally do with any printer when you have that problem

When you printed the Novaspirit text was that some colour bleedthrough on the N from the previous print

The printhead, is the actual printer. It's used for printing best before dates on cans and bottles.
No you're totally wrong. Best before dates are printed using non contact laser markers.
