Happy Thanksgiving everyone, thanks for following along and supporting my making! I've been told that the next version of the Selpic app released Dec. 6 will add the ability to use custom images and other improvements for both the S1 and S1+. Great news :)
Thank you for all the work u put into this channel, honestly from the bottom of my hearth thx. I literally wait for you videos to come out especially after school.
$200 is a lot for me as an end user. Buying it for company and not being able to use at least company logo is useless. There is similar product COLOP e-mark, you can use custom images and even colors.
"Just about as good as your standard inkjet printer". To be honest, the quality looked about as good as a dot matrix. Looked poor, but ok for shop labelling print out work.
I mean printing a full on a4 piece of paper probably isn't its normal use case, it's a lot faster and wip as well I'm excited to see what happens with that in the future
A registration mark on the side showing the print position is something that should have been applied from the start, this is something simple but 100% necessary, registration marks is printing 1-01
@@FishSnackems For example Handjet. There is also a recent Kickstarter by EveBot called the PrintPen, which reminded me of something very similar a couple of years before, as does this Selpic product.
Honestly, I'm surprised things like this actually work; the first time I saw something of this sort advertised, I was certain it was just one of those vaporware Kickstarter scams. That this even partially lives up to expectations gives me a ton of hope for the future of similar devices.
I just saw ads for basically the same thing under a different name called Princube and another one called Printbrush. This is the first one I got to see with an actual review so thats nice. I could see these becoming more practical as time goes on
Sounds like an open-source project using a standard inkjet cartridge filled with quick-drying ink, a 3d-printed enclosure and a raspberry pi could be winging its way to a Github near you
@@danielprimostuart I have one of those and it is true that it works on glass, but not all glass (cleanliness doesn't seem to be the factor). But as I said I think the compromise would be worth it, especially if the sensor was in-line with the printer head or at least very close.
What if you uploaded an image with the same color pallet and size. And just to be extra sure. Replace one of the images by naming it exactly like it is in the file?
The hardware looks pretty solid. Maybe some registration marks to align multiple lines. Other than that, it looks like all the problems are limitations in the app. Would love to see a re-review after a couple of software revisions.
If you print directly onto metal foil (copper, aluminium, etc) you could perhaps use it as etch resist for lithography. To make circuit boards or art designs. You'd need to test the ink to see if it can protect from any of the common etchants.
I’ve 100% been dreaming of GCode a shirt like that for months, but for a vertical mill program! I would 100% get a Marlin based Make Anything shirt immediately upon availability. Now that’s cool.
Peter Draws did a video on a printing device like this one too! I see people saying that it should print photos you choose, and the ones peter reviews actually does. But i didn't know there were more printing devices like this, thanks fo rthe video!
The coding thing, thinking about it, would be really cool for bands for tour shirts with all the locations on the back. Also, what happens when you wash the clothes? Does the shirt keep the ink? Will the glass wash off in the dishwasher?
No mention of an indicator for ink or charge time remaining? How about a wash test until it fades off that shirt? Or a wear test to see how durable the inks are? When it does support graphics can it be used on human skin? Temp to long term (not permanent hopefully) tattoos would be a cool and profitable use for this type of handheld mobile printer. Also useful at clubs or other events instead of UV stamps, bracelets, printed paper tickets, etc.
I'm currently waiting for a PrintPen by Evebot. Their campaign suggests that it allows uploading of custom images out of the box. I don't know what I plan to do with it, but I'm excited.
Neat piece of tech! I think I'll wait on the next version to be sure it can do the images properly, but a label maker has always been one of those things I wanted because it is useful.. and a toy. This could be exactly what I want for my prop packaging. I'd probably set up an image template on the computer so I could just completely customize the print beforehand and avoid any kerning problems on the device - which makes me wonder about size restrictions for the image data. It'd be neat if it let you store multiple prints so you didn't have to keep using the app to change out every line (or three lines) of the printing, but I'm guessing we mostly won't be doing lots of gcode shirt prints...
There's a black variant on Amazon for $299.99. It's not the + and was first listed yesterday. One thing I did notice was the ink cartridges supposedly have just a six month shelf life. Maybe they're trying to clear out stock of the older, smaller models. It's clever, needs an alignment tool so you can keep adding to something such as the shirt you did. There's a 3D printing project for you! In all honesty though, for the price it should work with any true type font you can throw at it. Four fonts with weird kerning? I don't get the reason for the limitations.
This would be AMAZING for printing sheet music on the go. There just has to be some kind of open source software, instead of what’s essentially a disappointing word processor. I mean, for those folks who don’t do music, it would be so great for custom images and all that too.
7:35 If that's the case, you could do a soft mod and replace one of the files with your custom image. All you need to do is make sure the new image is the same resolution, name, and file type as the old one.
Well this product looks like a copy of an other small printer called "PrintCube" on Indigo. From my point of view the Selpic looks like an copy of an other Startup product !
I backed the PrinCube on Indiegogo - looks like the better option imho. With that you can do custom images and multiline-printing and on-skin printing as well.
Will it print on already inflated potato chip bags? I need to print a code and the bags are already inflated and full of chips. And the bags are glossy. Also, will it print silver color?
Very interesting. i can see lots of possibilities for this kinda thing.. As for the current 200$ pricing, im gonna wait and see if anything else is coming.. Custom print being the obvious thing. Still exiting stuff.
i worked at a place that had an industrial version of this. looked like someone made in there basment but it had the exact same functionality and it used an hp laser jet cartridge.
Definitely needs work. I remember at least a couple of decades ago they invented an industrial printer system that can print on uneven surfaces without any contact - they use it for labelling eggs for example. If they could miniaturize that tech, then they'd be onto something I reckon.
Thanks for the review! I’ve been looking into these for some personalization and a small side business I have im interested in seeing this go head to head with the princube. Not sure if you heard of it but it looks just like this one but comes with more tools that can help with glass and uses a laser guide instead of the guide wheel. Would be awesome if you could get a hold of one and do a review!
This isn't the first one of these I've seen; Peter Draws reviewed what seemed like a much cheaper import one. What I dislike about these products is the mobile app. Does everything need to use a mobile app now? Is a mobile app really the ideal way to realize your creative vision? What happened to good old fashioned desktop design? I struggle to understand who the target market for this product is.
Devin, I'm watching this and I keep on thinking what your real thoughts were? Sure, you need to do some odd stuff to keep the channel going. But you are a creator and artist, not a sales person. And thanks for trying to get the max out of this gimmick, Hope they are happy. :)
I think it is still cool, even if it doesn't support custom images, to print many shapes and words together, which can help some business and personal projects.

Would love to see a video about that!
Can I use it with a Windows laptop instead of a mobile phone app?
Has base to set it down, lays it down on its side
That no custom images I feel is a bit of a deal breaker in my opinion
I agree.. I hope they stick to their word and make that update next month

I agree. My thought is to add registration marks to the edges of the printer so you can properly line up multi-line prints.
Definitely not the first of its kind. These kind of quick-dry rolling printers have existed and been available on Amazon and AliExpress for years.

B) can you print something on a 3d printer's bed and then 3d print something on that area ?

Does it print on skin? How long will the 'tattoo' last if it does?
Yes. I want to see that!!
@49jubilee .... Tattoos dont get into the blood... not even close
Peter Draws used a similar device on his arm. It was a printer pen. It does shapes and art, not just words.

Why everything nowadays requires registering a profile? And the blue circular buttons are too small.
