    The singer Robert Plant wrote the words as him & guitarist Jimmy Page drove through the Sahara Desert. They were on their way to a music festival, they enjoyed meeting the people on their journey to Morocco. Though neither could understand the languages, they did the music. Robert Plant fell in love with Morocco, & visits there often. It’s the song the band is most proud of.

You should watch the Page-Plant - MTV unplugged version of this song. They had an orchestra combined with New York and Egyptian musicians behind them and Michael Lee on drums. It's incredible! I’m an old hippy lady. Led Zeppelin was at the height of their popularity in America, and provided the soundtrack to my high school years. *Kashmir* was, and still is, one of my favorite songs of theirs. My husband and I travel within a few hours’ driving distance to attend the concerts of a local-ish Zeppelin cover band whose specialty is re-creating the exact sound from the studio albums, which often means there are seven or eight people on the stage. They are absolutely *amazing,* and have slowly expanded the radius of venues they play at, from a few mid-Atlantic states, and into the American Midwest and South. I am SO happy for them and their success, even though it means they don’t play locally as often and we don’t get to see them as much.
    Anyhoo, this cover band, Get The Led Out, always saves the best- *Kashmir-* for last. When the first couple of notes of the song begin playing, the entire audience leaps to its feet, ready to sing along. It’s positively electric and full of joy!
    You two ladies picked a great song; nothing makes me happier than witnessing young people discovering this music, and so very obviously enjoying it!
    ROCK ON, DUDETTES!!!

    I don't know why they called the song Kashmir. It was inspired by a trip to Morocco and as you will know Kashmir has no desert. Maybe they thought the double syllable title sounded better than a 3 syllable one. Maybe they didn't want the song to seem too specifically focussed, geographically.

    • @Cassxowary
      @Cassxowary 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      focused* and it was probably the fad of being enamoured with India (and rightly so of course), a lot of artists were at the time… it’s just ironic it was during a trip through a deserty area of morocco considering they hadn’t been to Kashmir yet which is basically like southern germany, austria, switzerland lol

    They were driving across the Northern Sahara (Mauritania?) in some sort of Land Rover type vehicle. Robert Plant fell asleep and the entire song came to him in a dream. He doesn't know if it is about the actual Kashmir, He just felt it was about ancient people living traditional lives; maybe in or near the desert. It certainly is beautiful. I believe he had a spot of bother getting the rest of the band to put it together - it is rather complicated. All in all, not too bad for three elderly men and the drumming son of the original drummer who died around 1980. Sadly, everyone seems to overlook John Paul Jones (on keyboards here). He could, and did, play every musical instrument, and arranged all their music - even those with orchestral accompaniment.

    Ummmm, trust me, y'all done heard some of their song's before. "Stairway To Heaven", is one of THE most talked about song's in the world! Stairway To Heaven is the song, that is literally banned in majority of the music instrument store's, from bein able to be used to test the instrument's out on. Another, that I know, that you have also heard, is in a more recent movie(Thor: Ragnarok), as it end's up being Thor's "theme song", when he realizes, that the power come's from within him, not the hammer, and his eye's light up bright blue & white(Due to the electricity). The song is "Immigrant Song". And, another one of their famous song's is, "When The Levee Breaks". Another song is, "Whole Lotta Love". "Black dog". "Dazed & Confused". "Ramble On". And, they have other's, but these are all their top hit's! And, not to mention, how they have been playin, since the 60's! Led Zepplin, Black Sabbath(With Ozzy Osbourne), Deep Purple, Iron Butterfly(You would love the song "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida"), Cream, The Kinks, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Vanilla Fudge(Not as well known as the other's, though), Steppenwolf, Grand Funk Railroad, Judas Priest, The Beatles, and obviously The Rolling Stones(Obviously), to name the majority of those, who were the pioneer's of what is known as "Heavy Metal" music today. And, each of them, have iconic song's, that you have probably heard before, but didn't realize, that's what you were listening to...
