    I wish all dealership technicians were as skilled and detailed as you. For this reason is why I do every single repair on every vehicle I've ever owned regardless of warranty. What sucks is that certain copyright programming can't be done that I'm aware of without going to a certified dealer. I really dislike the cost cutting in the parts and manufacturing process to make the investors happy so profits look good every quarter. You do extremely well teaching and explaining things that most people lack the patience for. Awsume videos big dog never loose that spark. Great job

    Thank you!! And it's a Lincoln too! I was stuck on the EGR tube nut! I will try the way you suggested. What a pain to change the spark plugs! I had no idea when I started! Ha! I was about to put it back together with only 3 new plugs!

    I did it step by step, I would pause and do it and it took no time to replace the plugs. Thanks for the video. It was on my 08 fusion. btw the headlight bulb was easy to replace with the airbox out.

    I just did my wife’s car and changed out the 6 intake manifold gaskets like you showed. Saved me a bunch of money but the box of gaskets came with 6 additional “lower” gaskets that are shaped differently. Where am I supposed to replace these other gaskets on the Fusion DOHC?

  • @northfork1218

    Great video- made the tune up a piece of cake. However- found oil in a couple of spark plug slots- neither was fouled and not giving me a code, yet....but guessing it will. I'm thinking I need to replace the valve cover gasket and the gaskets for spark plugs. Do you have a video on valve cover gasket replacement for 2009 Ford Fusion 3.0? I could only find the 2.3 & 2.5 videos.
    Thanks!

    Do I have to change my intake manifold gaskets every time I remove it to inspect my valves?

  • @Dranni21312
    @Dranni21312 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you for the video, definitely helpful and better illustrated than my Haynes manual!
    I have the following questions regarding this procedure on my 2011 Fusion V6:
    - There are only seven mounting bolts on my upper intake manifold (looks like bolt five in torquing sequence is not there). Is the torquing sequence the same for this model, and should I just skip the nonexistent bolt?
    - There seems to be a mounting plate under the EGR valve that holds the intake manifold to the engine. The bolt closer to the firewall seems to be inaccessible in any possible way - no clearance. Any suggestions how to tackle that?
    - Any caveats regarding removing the lower intake manifold to replace that gasket? I have relieved the fuel system as there is a fuel line in my way, but is there anything else worth nothing?
    Again, thanks for the awesome videos. Very glad to learn you're located in the Chicagoland area!

      I was able to get that 8mm bolt off. Have to really work at it and maneuver your hands into a very tight space.
      When I re attached everything afterwards, I left this bolt off.

    • @Dranni21312
      @Dranni21312 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +sshane11 Congrats! Did you leave the EGR valve in place?

    • @sshane11
      @sshane11 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +KoxtaRF I did leave the EGR but man was it tight. You can remove the 2 bolts on the metal "bar"that the EGR attaches to (on the upper intake) and rotate it to give you better access to the elusive 8mm bolt.

    • @Dranni21312
      @Dranni21312 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +sshane11 yeah I removed the two 10mm bolts, but nothing there would rotate or move out of the way otherwise. I also see no way that this bolt could ever be put back in with this kind of access...
      So, what would be the proper way to tackle this?

    • @sshane11
      @sshane11 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +KoxtaRF you have to remove the 10mm bolts so that the EGR will disconnect from the intake. But, the metal bracket that the 10mm bolts attach, the bolts holding that bracket onto the intake can be removed and the bracket rotated 90 degrees to allow access to the elusive and well hidden 8mm bolt. This allowed me just enough access with a very small 8mm wrench to work my hands into position to loosen and remove that last bolt. I had to remove my gloves to feel the 8mm bolt and to get my hands into that tight space. Very little clearance. Thanks Ford.

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +twoeagle86 Fords directive is if there are over 30k miles on them they should be replaced. I do every time no matter what as they deform over time. Fel pro gaskets are much cheaper and work great.

      I'm going to piggyback off this guy's question .. How about the lower gaskets? Are they needed to be changed while the uppers are being done? Seems like when you go to purchase the uppers, (on rock auto) the lowers are with them. Thanks and great vid!

    Good video! Should i replace the PCV valve when i replace spark plugs? In the owners' manual, it is recommended to replace PCV valve at 100K miles. It is an expensive like 50 bucks part, i would rather not to replace it unless i have to. What is your opinion? Thanks!

    Have oil leak and mechanic said that its from upper intake gasket is this what he's talking about? He was telling me that it's at the rear of the engine and hard to get to. I'd really wanna do this myself considering this would cost me 300+ to fix. I need help and don't know where to locate this particular leak or item he is talking about and this doesn't look anything to do with oil. I would really appreciate it

    • @RickTrajan
      @RickTrajan 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think intake gasket leaks oil, he's probably talking about the valve cover gasket. I only did valve cover gasket on Subaru but seems like this tutorial is just a step away from that.

    my 2010 fusion 3.0L upper intake doesn't look like that. It has 6 ports directly in the front. Couldn't get the intake off completely. Is there another 8mm bolt attached somewhere near the EGR? That seemed to be where the hangup was preventing me from removing the upper intake.

    • @Dranni21312
      @Dranni21312 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Shane Shaarda yeah it's under the EGR valve, attached to the same support plate, but the view there is obstructed. I have run into the same problem today and I have no idea how to remove that bolt. The manifold is definitely hinged on that so no way to remove it without removing the bolt (or the plate). I am, too, looking for a solution to this. Haynes manual simply says to unscrew these bolts, oh little do they know...

    I'm looking at used 07 - 09 Fusion(s) any advise between the 2.3 L vs 3.0 L ? is the 2.3 a timing belt and the 3.0 a chain? thanks.

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 2.3 and 3.0 are both timing chain setups and both are very reliable engines. The 2.3l has that grunt noise to it and is overall louder annoying engine. The grunt noise can be fixed by the revised belt and tensioner. Overall the 3.0l is very reliable and would be my choice for the fusion of those years.
