The whirlwind isn't a mystery. The whirlwind was the fallen equivalent of the collapse. When the traveler left the whirlwind occured and plunged the fallen into anarchy. Also they didn't form houses they were always in houses and never had a king. The house of judgement was the house that enforced the rules but they were not kings.
Xur is not a nine. He is a creature raised by the nine to do their bidding.
The traveler was a being that posed as a moon on the fundament (A giant planet that was also the birthplace of the hive) it is an agent of The Sky. A force that lived on the fundament but warred with the Deep and lost, forcing the traveler (and all other remaining agents of The Sky like Leviathan (who is not the traveler's apprentice). The Sky is the force we call the Light and the Deep is the force we call the Darkness.

+Gabriel Cullivan The whirlwind also occured at the same time that Oryx attacked the Fallen's homeworld. Chelchis, as in the raid weapon Doom of Chelchis, was the Great Kel of the Fallen that went head up with Oryx and lost due to the Traveler pretty much deserting him. He did however allow the Fallen to escape Oryx's wrath during the battle.

The whirlwind: it is the Fallen's version of humanity's collapse. The traveler use to be with the fallen and gave them a golden age but oryx came with his army and destroyed them. Chelcis the kell of stone made it possible for the other fallen to leave by fighting of the hive, but when he sees the traveler gone he screams "where is the great machine, Where is the great machine. The fallen came to earth to reclaim the traveler to have another golden age so they fight us.
Pretty sure that when i read the grimoire for TTK it said that oryx's sister sacrificed themselves to give oryx power

Oryx killed Xivu Arath and Savathun in one of their throne world's. If it was in Xivu Arath's world she's dead and Savathun is more powerful. If it happened in Savathun's world she's dead and Xivu Arath is more powerful. Considering malok was once a thrall of Savathun and defected to Oryx and Oryx named him malok which is basically hive for up yours I think it's safe to say Xivu Arath is dead and Savathun is more powerful

I love your thoughts on the Traveler, however as to why it doesn't leave, it was injured by Rasputin. In the grimmoire cards, Rasputin comes to the conclusion that humanity would likely die out all together when the Traveler leaves. So, when it showed signs of departure, he hit it with all he had. Subsequently draining his power and putting him into a sort of standby until an unidentified entity awakened him.

what if the traveler had vex technology. That's why we keep replaying the same god damn strikes over and over again
yellow gaming Actually not a bad theory. From what I've seen in Destiny 2, the Traveler woke up, and some of the ball broke off, revealing what seems to me like machinery under the shielding.
I think this would make a great plot. So the queen let's say she did indeed die. The whole reason why she attacked oryx was because Eris and the queen were secret allies and the vanguard would not listen to Eris if she tried to tell them of oryx. So the queen launched an attack on to show how powerful oryx is. In the grimoire it tells us the queens brother was teleported to Mars by one of his crows before he died. It would be cool if he found out that his sister had died, then he blames us for her dying and turns on us. In doing this h could reveal some secrets such as the black heart is still Slavic and growing inside the traveler or something and he tries to kill us. Other things that would be cool is if their was a battle for the tower, a corrupt taken guardian, an exo that is Rasputin and finding Osiris.
We know the queen is still alive because the voice actress talked about her pirate nature and how we'll get to see more of that in time.
I think Eris and the Queen are on to something because at the end of the recide story she says that she must finish what she came for
I assume the reason that the strangers story wasn't developed was due to them realising they done goofed in the original story so they made the taken king whilst they developed a solid entertaining interesting story for the traveler.

But he failed and in that he realized that if the traveller left all humanity would die so he purposley crippled the traveler and made it create guardians and ghosts

Let's answer some of these mysteries right now thanks to some digging of my own for a story I'm writing as well as from what others have posted. Specifically a TH-camr named "My name is Byf"
First off, the Traveler. In the Grimiore (although I can't exactly recall where) it's stated that when the Collapse began the Traveler tried to flee Earth as it had done for the Fallen during the Whirlwind. However in one card Rasputin enacts a kinda doomsday protocol. Instead for fighting off the Fallen and the Hive that invaded the Moon, he turned his guns to the Traveler and effectively "killed" it. Does the Traveler want to leave? You bet your ass it does. However thanks to Rasputin, it can't.
Next let's talk Oryx's sisters. It's only sort of confirmed that they are dead, and take that with a grain of salt because the Hive flirt with Death a lot. In the book of sorrows Auryx slays both of them and, thanks to sword logic, gains the power needed to slay Akka, the wurm god that gave them their wurms in the first place. By doing this Auryx goes into the deep and never leaves it. Instead what comes out from the battle is the monster we know as Oryx, the Taken King. Does this mean Xivu Arath and Savathun are dead? Yes and no. Yes in the material world but no because it's unknown whether or not they were in their throne worlds when they were slain. A mystery? Yeah but not as big as you might think. As far as their power goes they're the same yet not. They cannot Take like Oryx can. Instead here's what we have to deal with if they aren't dead permanently. Savathun, formerly Sathona, is the "Mother Morph" and according to the Book of Sorrows is a cunning trickster. Picture Loki on steroids. She's a master of deceit and back stabbing. Then we have Xivu Arath. This girl is someone I could easily see Titans wanting to challenge. Xivu Arath, formerly Xi Ro, is the "Knight Morph" she's a general unlike any other. She commands a Hive hoard so powerful they've destroyed entire civilizations over the eons. Xivu Arath herself is a master of sword logic endowed so much by its power that when Auryx first wields he wastes no time or even bothers thinking about Savathun's request to strangle her, instead he whips around and beheads her. If these two are still alive I'm sure as hell not going to seek them out.
Moving forward: The Iron wolves. While not much is known about them I believe they were the host that returned to the city after charging the enemy during Six Fronts. There were two hosts of Guardians. The first we know well, Radaghast Felwinter Efrideet etc, you know them as the Iron Lords. The other was led by the Iron Lord Jaggy. His host was the one that returned to the city when the fight was over. They are the Iron Wolves. We see this present more in Year 2's Iron banner weapons and armor. Though who they were exactly remains unknown.
And finally: The Whirlwind. Again, this is in the Book of Sorrows as well as in the Fallen's own lore. Before they were the Fallen, they were Eliksni. They were raised to enlightenment by the Traveler eons ago. But history has a funny way of repeating itself doesn't it? In the same manner as the first race of Guardian-like people raised by the Traveler, the Hive came at them seeking to destroy the Traveler and all that would not bow to the power of the Deep which is basically the Darkness so confirming no, the Traveler and the Guardians are NOT the darkness. Oryx and the Hive descended upon the Eliksni's home and slaughter followed. The "ruler" of the Eliksni was the Kell of the House of Stone, Chelchis (yes as in the scout rifle Doom of Chelchis) held the Hive off as long as he could allowing his people to escape, even going so far as to meet Oryx himself in personal combat. Unfortunately Chelchis was slain and the Fallen houses scattered to the far reaches of Space and slowly over time descended from grace becoming the enemies just as hungry for the Traveler as the Hive are that we know today. Sad isn't it?

The whirlwind was oryx attacking their planet. At one point, the traveler helped the fallen, but disappeared when oryx attacked them.
+Rocco242 I'm happy I'm not the only one who knows that. Oryx killed the King of the Fallen, Chelchis, creating the different Houses. Also, in the Raid Scout Rifle, Doom of Chelchis, the description shows his last words.

a thing that me and ny friend came up with is that one of oryx's sisters *savathün* is mara sov. When an ascendant hive is killed in any throne world it is reborn, which would explain mara sov's weird dialogue "The awoken are my family now" and "I remember every second of my birth" and her powers. Its also been somewhat confirmed that the nine helped or controlled the queen by one of xur's lunes of dialogue "the awoken did not act alone" which would also explain mara sovs rise to power if she wasnt reborn into the hierarchy and her being able to tactically gain control over two fallen houses with weaker forces. sorry for the rant hope it makes sense

Mara Sov, The Speaker, Osiris, and the Iron Wolves are all members of The Nine, the The Nine being a elite group of Jovian's that pass on their scrap weapons to Xur, however Xur takes the Strange Coins and uses the vibrating metal to craft his own weapons and eventually he will begin to supply the Tower on his own, Then the Guardians, The Nine, turn against The Traveler due to new information being brought up, the dark patch under the Traveler repairs itself, and The Traveler is infuriated with it's Ghosts and will not let them return to it, and chooses to irradicate those which he saved due to their unloyalty, which results in The Speaker being the main quest giver and it's us attempting to wipe out new living creatures formed out of Ghost shells in a humanoid formation, The Final boss being The Stranger who was attempting to send us to our doom this whole time

Traveler can't leave because Rasputin crippled it when it was going to leave. That's why there's huge pieces cut off from the Travelers surface.
what if for some reason, the Queen didn't die or landed somewhere but was sent to the future. obviously almost dead and so the technology of the future helped her and turned her into what we know as the stranger, the exo creepy girl.
The traveler can't leave or Rasputin will open fire on it and either destroy it or force it to stay put and defend itself and by extension the city.

As far as the Queen's survival, have a look at the grimoire card entitled "The Aftermath" in the Queen section of allies. Doesn't necessarily confirm her survival but it does yield some hope.
I think in one of the grimore cards pertaining to Rasputin it states that when the perverbial shit hit the fan the Traveller tried to bail on humanity but Rasputin wounded it
Could the nine be 3 Warlocks, 3 Hunters and 3 Titans each of the sub-classes? The very first ones of each class? Like Cayde, Ikora and Zavala in the tower.
interesting concept, but I think the Nine are a race of Almighty beings that live in a different dimension altogether. They toss expensive items at us for Strange Coin. They have to know more than Guardians do. I think Xur is something like the Speaker, in which his ability is to travel to our dimension and communicate with us.
+ConcordDown I think the Nine are beings like the Traveler. Xur did mention that there was a dark presence in the city, I believe. It could be that he is an agent of a race that of the Traveler, or they could have created the Traveler. What is interesting about the Nine is why they want the strange coins. Could the coins be some sort of powerful tokens that we do not know of? There is a reason why he wants the strange coins, but I do not know what for.
Seth Houser something to think about: Petra killed 9 Guardians at the Twillight Gap and it's exactly where ghost found us. Could we be the part of Nine? Are they sending their agent to aid Guardians of the past?

Seth Houser I found it odd to be mentioned as three fire teams, not raid team or just unit of Guardians. 3 fire teams. It could be also an mix up for 9 name items from Iron Banner, like hand Canon warlock etc. Timur's Lash, Gheleon's Demise, Felwinter's Lie etc.
A theory about the Traveler:
Rasputin crippled the Traveler to stop it from leaving. Forcing the Traveler to make ghosts. That's why the Traveler hasn't left yet.

Nocrus is dead, she was a queen of some little planet oryx conquered, but oryx felt she was an actual challenge so he decided to build a statue for her in memory of her death, same as Crota he got a statue after he died

Concerning Osiris, Luke Smith said in an interview at the previous e3 that he was alive. He didn't give any detail into that, but in an 104 question interview, when asked if Osiris is alive, I believe he said just yes

Houston Feltz What I know is the traveler is immobile, deaf, and cant do anything because Rasputin attacked it. You might be asking why attack it? Because the traveler was gonna leave us cause the darkness found it (like it did with fallen). So Rasputin used his ultimate defense mechanism and shot at the traveler so it can't leave us and humanity can live.

I found Xür to be a person who follows the nine, but secretly doesn't believe in them. He has so many exotics because he steals them. One of his dialogues is "keep it away from the nine". It makes sense

In the light house there's a cave and in it its very dark but there's a big hole with vex surrounding it and dead vex in half and human bones and a text what's the mysteries about that?

Also on venus (I can't remember where exactly) there is a big cave with a staircase in it. It's like the small caves where you find a chests in but way bigger. Although a further way beyond the stairs is blocked by rocks. I wonder what was supposed to be in there.

Oryx didnt kill his sisters to learn the power of taking however he did kill the but later resurrected them. to learn the power of taking he killed the worm god Akka allowing him to not learn the power of taking but rather take the power of taking from the Deep itself
In one of the missions, it tells you that Rasputin held the traveler on earth when it tried to leave when the darkness arrived.
About the queen, in the storyline during one of the missions (don't remember what one) cade ( I think) said that the queen pulled an eris morn meaning she is most likely alive.

There are so many little unsolved mysteries that are just in a few rare item descriptions.
If you read the book of sorrows it explains the origins of the traveller and the darkness. It also explains the motives of both. It is a very good read and contains a massive amount of lore.

I believe that the traveler is a great being of power. It means well, and helps things as much as possible, but it is so worshipped that all beings want a taste of it. Which is why not just the Darkness follows, but everything does
The penguin finally put the name of the song he uses in his intro's and outro's, yes!
I think the big blue knight in the cutscene where oryx says "I will take them all" is one of his siblings. My reasoning behind this is we've never seen a hive with that kind of aura besides ascendant hive. It surely was the dark blade or the war priest.
Well, Xür is wearing a Titan Mark, a Hunter's Hood, and the Warlock's bond, so that's pretty spooky.

I feel that the exo stranger in the story is the the embodiment of the traveler itself. in one of the dialogs you have with her she said that she had see worse thing and as we know the traveler has been to many other planets

In the grimoire, and in the description of some weapons, it is heavily implied that the Hive, Oryx, was the Whirlwind.
The Iron Wolves are the second bunch under the Iron Banner, represented by the nine names we see in the Year Two gear. We can concretely state this with what has been revealed now, 2 weeks before the new expansion.
Well in the intro to the taken king with the awoken attacking oryx and the drednaught she says "ever since you have left that pit" do you think their will be an expansion to wear we will be able to go into that pit?

Could the queen be working with the nine because in one of the house of wolves missions I heard that she gave skolas to the nine (this was said by Petra during the story mission )
I did see something where Bungie said they were planning something for the queen, essentially confirming that she's still alive. I don't remember where I saw it or how to find it, so you'll just have to take my word for it.
In your video you asked what's keeping the Traveler from leaving. I have heard that it's possible that Rasputin, the Warmind is in some way keeping it here. Maybe he is using his immense arsenal to sort of hold him hostage in Sol.
Rasputin is keeping it from leaving, i keep forgetting. Rasputin weakened the traveler from leaving to benefit the human race
The last question can be answered by reading the book of sorrows, the traveler was one of the moons on the planet of the hive (before they were tainted by Oryx and his sisters) and when they freed the worm gods the traveler fled because he was their target, the reason the traveler can't leave is because Rasputin threatened to destroy it, Rasputin is the only reason we didn't end up like the Eliksni. The traveler goes around worlds sharing his light so that he can raise an army to combat Oryx and leaves to have them fight incase they lose he goes on to cultivate another army.
The Speaker is just Osiris in disguise.
Xür is just a messenger for the nine and it's known that the nine are an organisation that reside in a sort of pocket dimension. The queen also able to contact the nine with the help of those warlock guard people that were with her when she "died".
As a matter of fact, the exo stranger is the founder of the fwc. She created exo bodies so she could traverse the vex timestream in one. I believe sundaresh was her name.

now that I have watch this I have a feeling that the rise of iron DLC is going to be about the iron wolves

Here's what I think about the iron wolfs. You see in some of the iron banner gear it tell a story about the iron wolf. However when I took a look at the gears description all together it shows a much bigger story. Its pretty interesting. So take a look a figure out the story for yourselves.

Possibly the Traveller is from the start of time? I'm sure I saw somewhere (possibly the wiki of maybe the verse of Alpha Lupi or whatever it's called) that the Traveller is made largely from Neutronium and Electro-weak matter, which is believed to have only existed in the moments after the big bang (I think). Just a thought
Rise of Iron got me hyped but I'm a bit disappointed there wasn't a Cabal or Vex DLC
The Traveler did try to leave. In one of the Rasputin grimore cards says that Rasputin had to stop the Traveler from leaving

If I remember correctly the sunbreaker quest for the Titans takes you to mercury and it's told that the sunbreaker Titans are protecting Osiris
I am hoping to eventually see a mission where we rescue the Queen from a race/faction of enemies that may have kidnapped her while her ship drifted aimlessly in to space. Maybe even in to a new star chart with different planets? Who knows?
I believe that The Jovian Nine are holding the Queen of the Awoken.

My own opinion would be to include flashbacks to the battles of twilight gap and so on maybe in actual cutsceans or just playing as one of the vanguard like cayde-6 so we get more involved in the story
1 you missed was in the story mission where u first fight oryx you can scan a statue of oryx,crota then 1 of a unknown hive god called "nokis so far thats the only mention of nokis
Good video...if you read the new cards they reveal that the Traveler tried leaving Earth, but the great machine, Rasputin, used all of its power to keep the Traveler in place, which caused the Collapse. Hope this answers why the Traveler can't leave :)

Rasputin is The saviour. #screwthetraveler. That's why Rasputin is very weak right now.
From what I understand with The Whirlwind, the Fallen was that, yes the Traveler did go to the home planet of the Fallen. They did, at one time, had a single ruler who was able to unify all the houses (which is what Skolas was trying to do.) the Whirlwind disaster took place when Oryx went to the home planet of the Fallen to seek and destroy the Traveler. The Traveler knew Oryx was coming to kill it and it left the Fallen to fend for themselves. In the end the Kell of Kells challenged Oryx to a one-on-one sword fight in order for all the other houses to flee the planet. But in the end, the Kell was defeated by Oryx. After that, that's when the houses started to form other houses and a civil war started between the houses and only the strongest houses came out on top (Devils, Kings, Wolves, and Winter.) The House of Exile are viewed as Fallen who don't have a Kell and were never able to find one so the Kells of the surviving houses exiled them to the Moon.

I also believe it was explained that Rasputin is one of the nine, a series of warminds that obtained sentient conciousness.
Seeing though you missed this, there's a hidden office below the lighthouse with a skeleton on a desk full of papers and a dead vex goblin opposite. I think it is Osiris's personal office
The whirlwind was Oryx finding and hunting the Eliksni as the Traveler came to them (not the other way around like you said, although that does happen later I guess). The traveler flees, Chelchis is killed by Oryx, and the Eliksni splinter and attempt to find the traveler again. They are now the Fallen.
Extra lore: Oryx only saw us as a nuisance. Same for most races. But he actually feared the Fallen, Skolas in particular. This is because he created something dark from the brightest light during the Whirlwind, yet he didn't do it intentionally and thus does not control their will.
