    I have owned both calibres and theyre both amazing and fun. I can not strees enough how "comfortable" it is to shoot a .357. Both eyes open all day, no bruising, no deafness. Then again theres something fun about shooting a .44 mag lever action one handed at ant beds.

    I recently watched a similar video comparing 357 magnum and 44 magnum, using Marlin 1894 rifles. It took two shots to knock the meat target off the table with the 44 magnum ammo while the 357 magnum just moved it a little. So if you do not have an AK 47 and you need to kill every MF in the room, go with the 44 magnum.

    We have both as well. I purchased the 44mag model, and my brother purchased the 357 model. I personally love the 44 mag, and would buy it again. In the end both levers are awesome and are a blast to shoot. The 357 model can shoot 38 special and the 44 mag can shoot 44 special as well. This makes its more cost effective and less recoil for the beginner shooter.

    When deciding between the .357 and the .44, I would say an important factor would be if you also owned a pistol that shot the matching ammo. A primary reason to chamber these rifles in pistol calibers is to simplify your choice of ammunition, so I say pick the one you already have. This is especially true since these rifles are otherwise identical regardless of your choice of caliber.

    • @PatRMG
      @PatRMG  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    • @danscott6963
      @danscott6963 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @K.M. Haswell Wow, I've been shooting for forty years, and I took "stuff" to mean steel or paper targets. And some pistol caliber carbines can most certainly harvest big game in a humane manner, depending on the animal, range, shot placement, projectile, etc. And .30-06? That's your recommendation for a new shooter? For deer? I took my first deer with an ought 06, it was the goto rifle where I grew up... Mostly because it was elk country and the early eighties. But there are way better choices for a new shooter to hunt with. Advice: we need to encourage new shooters, not insult or patronize them. You should share your OPINIONS in a positive way. I recommend something like a Ruger 10/22 for a new shooter. If you have 750 to throw down on a centerfire rifle, however, a Henry X. 357 is a pretty neat choice. One could trick it out and drive old school shooters bonkers.

    • @MrMondie
      @MrMondie 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @K.M. Haswell By "Stuff" i meant like targets, cans, books, dirt! Stuff like that!!! Then, show how to clean the gun! Never said anything about animals.

    sub-sonic rounds. I put 300 grain XTP
    rounds together with Accurate #9, 13 grains. Used a Magnum primer from CCI,

    I have owned both the .44 and the .357 in identical Rossi model 92's. The first thing I noticed was the barrel on the .44 was the same diameter on the outside so it was thinner. This caused the rifle to heat rapidly and cause bullet wandering. If allowed to cool it shot fine. Since I handload I am able to create custom loads for each rifle. I kept the .357 and sold the .44. I hunted coyotes, deer, and elk. The .357 was flatter shooting so it was easier to shoot at different ranges. I call the .44 a pumpkin thrower. I now have a M77/357 Ruger bolt action I love.

    I was waiting til the end with baited breath, but alas, no favorite lol. My feelings exactly on calibers but the 357 is sentimental to me, I bought a S&W Model 28 Highway Patrol in 357 back in 1976, the bicentennial year & named her "Miss 6 Kix 76". I reload as well and ammo price not a concern. I lucked out and was able to purchase a 357 Henry X. Mine as accurate as yours. The 44 X Model is my next buy. Good video. Thx for posting.

    Revolver caliber carbines are a great idea for everybody. Cheaper than other rifle calibers to shoot; easy to shoot; good house guns; good to hunt with; most of all is fun to shoot.. My daughter pretty much took my Rossi 92 in .357 from me when she was in high school. She is a big Western fan anyway. Good job, I’ve never had a 357 lever action but one day I’ll get one, not trying to knock your video, you’re doing a great job, but if I go to buy one it will have wood stocks, I think these type of guns are good for the younger generation, that like for modern finish, they have a place in the world and I’m glad they’re making, them. just not my cup of tea at this time

      These definitely do break the tradition of wood and blued. I think that's why the X Model is designated.
      I would probably choose wood too, if they offered a threaded version. That last 5/8" of the barrel is what makes it for me.

    Seems like a key question in deciding .357 mag rifle vs .44 mag rifle should be whether the end user will also carry a handgun in either caliber (i.e., if you already have the handgun, do you want the utility of having both shoot the same ammo?).

      That is a consideration too. I probably should have included that thought, but this is more of a comparison between the two rifles.

    as for the aforementioned critter hunting - hogs and deer and criminals - i find the 200gr in the 44 is everything needed from close up to 200y. reloading is the only way to go for either the 44 or 357, as besides a huge cost savings you can tailor your loads to your preferences and what your specific gun likes. my favorite pistol is my 7½" ruger srh in 44 and now my marlin 1894 is my go to for anything i can see with my old eyes.
    and of course you can load it pretty soft, not much more than 38spl. can't find anything the 357 can do that the 44 can't do as well or better. imho - though it be a little biased

      Yeah, that's it. The 44 is equal to or better than 357 in most areas. I want them both, but would "settle" with the 44. Notice settle is in quotes!

    I'd love to see these chronographed out of a long barrel compared to a standard revolver
