    PART 1 (this video!): Part 1: Dual Battery Basics
    In part 1, we’ll start with the basics of your vehicle’s 12v system, why you need a dual battery system, what everyone gets wrong and why it’s important to plan your system from the start so you don’t waste time and money. We’ll show you how to put together a 12v system that’s ideal for overnight or long weekend camping adventures, that’ll let you run your fridge and camp light and charge your phones while camping.
    PART 2: Battery Charging Secrets Revealed
    • Complete Off-Grid 12v ...
    In part 2, we’ll take it to the next level by showing you how to keep your battery charge while you’re on the move with various vehicle-based battery charging options. We’ll talk about the different types of 12v battery isolators and chargers, including the latest in battery charging technology that’ll get you camping better and for longer!
    PART 3: Next-Level 12v Upgrades
    • Complete Off-Grid 12v ...
    In Part 3, we’ll take it up a notch again, and show that you don’t have to spend a fortune to get an ultimate off-grid 12v system. With this setup, you’ll never have to turn your fridge off again, you’ll have all the comforts of home with you anytime you camp, and you’ll be set to camp for as long as you want - even permanently!

    Thank you for having such a well made video and presenting it very well. The production quality is superb. I'm tired of videos that are hand held and looking like they're taking us on an earthquake or roller coaster. Not only is this made to professional standards, but you know what you're talking about and enjoyable to watch. Even for us mates over here in the States. 😃🇺🇸👍 Bravo! Keep up the great work.

    Nice accurate advice. Very few people know that your start battery only has 2 functions. 1. To start your vehicle. 2. Provide and electrical sink whilst the vehicle is running.
    It is not for anything else !

    • @cekpi7
      @cekpi7 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends, if you have older car then yes. New cars with start/stop and other stuff work differently, some of them even have secondary battery that power all of your electronics so voltage doesn't fluctuate when you start your car.

    • @JRiddledickDangerfield
      @JRiddledickDangerfield 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cekpi7 still the same. Second battery is providing a stable electrical sink voltage under crank and the stop/ start variants use a more durable battery to allow more starts.

    • @cekpi7
      @cekpi7 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JRiddledickDangerfield Secondary battery is used to run vehicle accesories while car is turned off as well. Your point is still valid, starter battery doesn't do anything else than starting a car.

  • @1wor1d
    @1wor1d 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    8:01 Using the 100Ah battery as their example, the battery that drains their battery to only 20% full or 80AhX250 cycles=20,000Ah for the life of the battery. Next one 50% full or 50AhX500 cycles=25,000Ah, finally the cycle that the uploader is recommending is 80% full or 20AhX1,200 cycles=24,000Ah. As you can see in this scenario it's actually best to drain your battery to 50% as you get the most Ah of all the examples. In fact their is only 20% difference between the best and worse case scenarios. I think the most important message for people is to never drain your battery below 12 volts as below this amount you can damage your batteries and significantly damage your battery. Make sure you have an automatic cut off switch that protects your battery from deep and catastrophic damage to your battery.

    So it can run the fridge and be charged from solar panel at the same time if using the battery box?
    I just had my Kings MPPT solar controller kill my battery. Came back and it was bubbling, and not a lithium battery. Not set up as a dual battery, just charging from solar, and running camp fridge.

    Problem: I have a 1999 Suburban with a secondary battery tray. I want to install a second battery with a VSR Battery Doctor (Wirthco brand) that has an "Override" button for jump starting off the secondary battery. My problem is I have all my camping accessories wired to the main under hood fuse box, which is connected to the primary battery.
    Question: Is it OK to pull the fuse box cable off the primary battery and hook it up to the secondary battery, so I can use my accessories?
    If by chance I accidentally ran the secondary battery dead, would the "Override" button work to power the starter relay and ignition system to start the engine?

    Almost perfect vid.
    Awesome for 1st timers and really showing people it's simple stuff. Only correction is the amp delivery from that 200w solar panel.
    That current was in relation to panel voltage. The regulator will drop the volts from 21ish volts down to 13-15v (depending on charge setup), which in turn raises the amps. Watts 101 is p=v x I so say if your regulator is outputting 14v you will be seeing closer to 15amps (50% more than what the panel outputs directly).

    • @4wdsupacentreAu
      @4wdsupacentreAu  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Glenn Matthews you’re spot on and good pickup, but what I forgot to mention is that it comes with a PWM regulator - so not a great buck converter.
      If you used an MPPT solar controller you would get a much better power output with higher amps as you said, but I’ll go into that more in part 2.
      Thanks for the comment and cheers for watching!
      Thanks,
      Cahn

      This is why MPPT charge controllers are way better than PWM. You can effectively run a much higher voltage solar panel set up and convert all those extra volts, into amps. Provided the battery can accept the elevated charge rate though.

      You’ll need a DCDC charger with solar input, wire the positive cable from the Anderson (it’s already got a connector so easy to do) into the solar input on the DCDC. Alternatively you could mount a solar reg in a similar way, using the positive from the Anderson into the reg then the negative from the reg to the busbar in the control box!

    If I am unable to hook up the ignition wire, can I just plug my dual battery in when driving and then disconnect when not driving to ensure the power is only being drained from the dual battery and not the main? Thank you

    I do RC car racing and need a field battery to charge my 4s lipo batteries. I think a deep cycle and solar power will work great...

    Great video! Excuse my ignorance, I have a question, I have 3 agm 125 amp hr. batteries all in series, connect to my 3 (100 watt solar panels) also connect in series .Do I have to recharge them individually when there about to go below 50 percent, or can I leave them in series and have all three batteries recharge at the same time. ( Have a battery charger and a 2000 Honda generator).

      Are you sure they're in series? if so they're running at 36V 215Ah.
      If they're in parallel then they're 12V, 375Ah. Yes you can charge them all together if this is the case - just connect the positive lead of the charger to the first battery and the negative to the furthest battery. that way it's charging equally through all three.
      This is a good link to check out for more info: www.impactbattery.com/blog/tutorials/how-to-charge-marine-and-rv-batteries-in-parallel/

      Thank you so much for replying! Yes your are right. The batteries are connected in parallel.
      2 solar are in series and then in parallel with the 3rd one. Again thank you, I will look into the attachment you send me. I'm glad I found your channels and have subscribed to your channel. Thank you, thank you.

    Running a dual battery setup in my Grand Cherokee Trailhawk. My question is: Do both batteries need to be the same? For example, I would like to get Lithium battery to run my camping gear. I plan on using a DCDC charger between the two.

      I should note the car battery is NOT a lithium
