    I would not consider this a failure, the battery performed great. Good advice to check the temperature of the terminals when charging and using it and I will be doing so. Just bought a 100ah slimline lithium from kings for my off grid camper build, thinking of getting a second one if I can fit it into the build. I will be charging it up in the next few days. If terminals run hot like yours did I will be exchanging it for another one.

    Thanks Craig, I always enjoy your videos.
    I have 2 x 120amp king lithiums in parallel and so far so good. I will actually check the temperature of the terminals when under load now to see if I have a similar problem.
    I did notice while charging it once the terminal did get hot. I thought it was because the charger wasn’t attached good. Might need more investigating.

    The AH rating of a battery is done with a .2 c discharge rate. 40 amps The fact you got almost the batteries rated AH under a high load like that shows that those are very good cells.

    Good job Craig. I have 3 of the Kings 200A lithiums, a black top (older model) & 2 x blue tops, I’ll have to do a heat & performance test after seeing this.
    From what I have seen in reviews the Kings batteries are actually fairly decent by most standards, even the higher end batteries are not entirely devoid of this type of processing faults and many (most) over rate their capacities anyhow.
    This was a good spot & an obvious red flag people need to look out for when buying & installing a lithium battery setup. TFS. Cheers

      Good review my arse. He put 120 amps through his battery, you gotta be nuts the limit is 50 amps, he wonders why the terminal was red hot. He's completely clueless. The BMS on that particular battery is limited to 50 amps. Your never supposed to put more than 30 amps through a lithuim ion phosphate RV battery. This is exactly why you never ever connect a lithium ion battery to a car alternator it's a big no no because of the 80-140 amp current produced by a car alternator. Those batteries are designed for PV discarges of between 15-40 amps max

    For longterm storage run the generator out of fuel and just either buy fuel when you need the generator or make sure you turn over your petrol using other products. The aging of fuel is more critical in small quantities ie. inside the carburettor. For medium term storage you could turn off the fuel with fuel in the tank and then run out the fuel in the carburettor.

    I am no sparky, but how thick is the square lug/amp rating of this lug connected directly to the +ve terminal? Could this be the potential hot spot if it is too thin and wouldn’t that increased resistance increase the temp at the +ve terminal? It might be the camera angle, but the bus bar on the -ve terminal looks a lot thicker.

    If you tighten the loose terminal would the temperature drop?
    Love to see it if you haven’t destroyed the battery.

    Kings products seems to be a good starters pack to see if he enjoys it.

    • @CraigRichards-qp3pg
      @CraigRichards-qp3pg 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      Yes the temperature would normalise if the terminal was tightened. However as the terminal in question was inside the battery you have no way of doing it without removing the lid. This obviously voids warranty and the average person would not normally check this of even know they had a problem that potentially could cause a fire.

    • @evil17
      @evil17 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Craig is right of course, tightening the terminals would normalise operation & it should run cooler. While this could be a concern with ANY lithium battery, now you know how to check for such a potential issue by testing the battery under a decent load and stress test all your connections before putting a system into service.
      I have a fair bit of Kings gear myself, I have to say for the price point, it is pretty hard to beat, and the batteries and inverters are probably the best value you will find, there are a lot of name brand batteries & inverters that aren’t as good and cost 3 times what Kings charge.
      I think Kings products would be a perfect way for ur young fella to get into the camping scene, if people looked after their gear better it would last longer & Kings gear is no exception, I have seen guy’s that have had a Kings side awning for over 3 years without issue, while many others complain they are rubbish, it all comes down to how you look after ur gear & if it is a bit cheapish & substandard, then take more care of it. Hope he has a ball with it.

      Most Chinese lithium ion batteries have only 55-60 % of their stated amp hour reserve. I wouldn't buy simply because they are only 50 Amp BMS, bear in mind the last 10 amps cannot be utilised due to the voltage dropping to under 11 volts which won't run even a 12 volt fridge
