      Hard agree. I already preferred Salmon Run to PVP in Splatoon 2 but couldn't fully enjoy it due to the time constraints, then 3 came out and added so much to it on top of making it always open. It went from a small side mode to being on pretty much the same level as the PVP ones, to the point of getting its own version of Splatfests, and I'm very happy with this.

      Playing Salmon Run again on 2 felt more my style/pace than how hectic higher leveled Splatoon 3 games could get. I also think it’s a better challenge when you CANNOT chuck eggs around Willy nilly.

      i remember winning over and over in splatoon 2, i blame sbmm, in a pve gamemode no less, to the losses that shocks me outright, like someone having a power egg score (the orange ones), of 93, in TWO waves. playing with your feet might actually get you better scores than that.
      i simply cannot believe those people are eggsecutive VP in the slightest.
      dont get me started on the sbmm in other gamemodes except ranked.

    I think Splatoon 3 filled its own plate to a tipping point, between photo mode, replays, Locker compatibility, Tableturf, and Tricolor. They added as much as they could throughout each update, considering how much of a resource sink Side Order must have been. But taking a step back… we got a whole buffet of fun surprises that we never would have expected otherwise.
    Overall, I mostly play Salmon Run, and the changes added by Splatoon 3 shine brightest with its gameplay loop. I cherish this game and do still consider it to be the best of the trilogy, even with the map design’s prevalent issues. Return of the Mammalians was a treat and I’m more than satisfied with how they handled the origins of the Mollusk Era.

    For a new player to play Splatoon 3 right now after 2 years of content, it really feels like there's plentiful things like weapons and gear (just like I felt playing Splatoon 2 after all new content ended).
    However, it feels like the devs didn't release things like weapon kits quick enough and just released batches of ~11 weapons per season, especially since we got used to them relatively quickly after a season started and needed to wait another 3 months.
    Although playing Splatoon 3 right now feels great for a new player, some of the people that played throughout the 2 years of content might feel like it was lacking for the content updates provided seasonally.

    As great as Splatoon 3 was (especially near the end), my opinion for EPD 5 as a whole still remains the same: They should’ve supported New Horizons for longer & save Splatoon 3 for the Switch 2’s first year so some of the more fundamental issues could’ve been ironed out (Ex: Map design, some of the kits, etc.). And to be frank, Splatoon should be a once-per-system franchise like many of Nintendo’s biggest sellers.
    I know some of you will say “But wasn’t Splatoon 3 made by mostly junior staff?”. Well, yes & no. EPD 5 did bring on a bunch of new hires, but the overlap between Splatoon 3 & ACNH was still roughly within the same 30-40% ballpark as past entries for both (32.5% in this case). So at least as of now, Splatoon & AC do impact each other’s development to some extent. And I sadly don’t expect that to change much until 2028 when that new EPD building is opened.

    Only things I liked about 3 over 1 and 2 is everything done with Salmon Run, the updated gear system that now lets you change your main ability on anything, the seasonal splatfests look amazing, the base game story mode of 3 was such a step up in so many ways over the first two, music was very good, and finally the additions of squid roll and squid surge make the game much more enjoyable to play.

The weapon kits and maps on the other hand...
    If we got a mid-season content update with a montly or bi-monthly balance patch inbetween major updates, the system would be great. 5-7 extra kits, more gear, some SR stuff, QoL tweaks, Tableturf cards and maps, etc. would all be great for mid season patches, and would have given us all second kits FAR earlier than the end of the game's support, allowing for 3rd kits to be added around early year 2.

    honestly, i wouldn't mind if the next splatoon game was singleplayer focused. after being with this series for 9 years and playing many very good singleplayer games, i realize from side order's production value that the dev team could make something really amazing. splatoon's core design aspects could lend themselves to a really interesting larger-scale third person shooter experince. games like dishonored, cruelty squad, and boneworks are part of what makes me think this. good games.

    Where splatoon 3 dropped the ball for me was it's treatment of Frye, Shiver, and Big Man. I've been watching splatoon content since the beginning. As soon as I started earning money, my second switch game was splatoon 3.
    After I finished the story mode and did 100% Alterna, I expected more from this group that wasn't locked behind sea scrolls. With 2 years gone by, S rank reached and multiple evp 999s, I realised the trio were never truly given the spotlight.
    That wave 2 DLC should have been their opportunity not Pearl and Marina (still love them tho). It should've delved deeper into the chaos theme with Deep cut at the helm. For example we learn from the scrolls that shivers lineage was not affected by the great turf war as they still got to live on the surface,
    Why were they allowed to do so?
    Were they on the side of the inklings?
    It could still be a rogue lite but we could help Deep cut on their heists.
    The more money you "borrow" decorations would pop up in the splat 3 plaza and food shops you can interact with including a cutscene of you eating.
    I'll stop there but you all get where I'm coming from. When the skip button was introduced the community needed a dlc to get closer with Deep Cut. Let's be real guys other than splatfests when was the last time you read their dialogue.

      I think S3 made it really clear how many issues s1-2 had and it being fixable in a leap from 1 game to another was a lot to ask. The good news is (hopefully) there's a lot less things to focus on, so many small things got fixed that can hopefully drive attention to the main things like kits or maps.

    Table turf was the weirdest thing to me. It really seemed like a good mode for taking a break from standard gameplay and if developed could have been a main thing. But there are just so many things that they didn't do that I thought they would, I thought they would ad online matchmaking, I thought they would add music (besides the ONE song) I thought they would add it to the menu... I didn't even realize for like the first month that the game launched without a way to challenge other humans. So weird.

    Splatoon 3 honestly had fantastic updates and changes throughout the life cycle compared to where we were at the start. I think the kit drip feed is the main thing people are upset about, and me too of course, but everything else around it? Perfect. Loved the seasonal model, loved all the new things they added. Loved many of the new stages, particularly in the game's 2nd year. Splatfests were fun, tricolour was fantastic, particularly as the points system pertained to the splatfests, I think people don't give enough credit to the clever game design of getting an ultra signal to get clout to add depth to the dynamic of tricolour. And getting a full win as an attacking team on tricolour was always so satisfying, easily my favourite mode.

    Honestly, no. Weapon kits were disappointing, the maps were boring and small with not many changes. The story mode was sort of a lackluster repeat previous modes and should have been longer, the lack of different modes was bad, and specials were also lackluster as well. Customization was also very lackluster, and the 3rd map was relatively small. I honestly missed most of the splatfests, including grandfest, and tricolor was semi-annoying. Catalogues were also lackluster, and I wish we got a way to access all of them at the end of the game.

Missed like 7 or 8 fests in all those months, and I couldn´t live with myself knowing I missed that amazing FrostyFest Lobby song "Yule Tide". I mean, listening to it on the Internet is just not the same. The Music is what got me into Splatoon after all, I can´t wait now!! :)

    I’m absolutely certain a big part of why Future got zero points is because they got shafted in their own game. Sidelined in their own game’s story mode to put more Squid Sisters was such a bad move.

      Did you see that one video too? About how Deep Cut got sidelined? Cuz yeah, I agree with you there. I even think they did them dirty in the Grand Fest performances a bit (why did Big Man only stand there and move his arms?) Sometimes I wonder what was even the point of making them.
      However the devs decide to take the past theme, I hope that they at least put references to all 3 of Deep Cut's clans somewhere. Put those secret scrolls to more use, y'know?

    • @DillyzThe1

      i can't believe i'm actually saying this, but i'm gonna miss deep cut. i remember how astonished i was at splatfests when i first opened the game up to anarchy rainbow playing, and how much i came to love the characters as the game went on. keep in mind that i initially kinda hated deep cut when they were revealed, and only *really* started to enjoy them as they were once i got to play the new story mode in 2022. but after all of the character development and grandfest making me realize how attached i've gotten to all 7 of them, i came to finally appreciate them as much as i should've.
      deep cut was always such a write-off, but they were great when they got to shine. i may love the squid sisters and even more so off the hook (i was team present lol), but deep cut will forever hold a special place in this community's hearts.
      EDIT/NOTE: i should mention that i spent ~20m staring at the anarchy rainbow stage because i was especially astonished at how much splatfests felt they had evolved. color pulse was classic, yeah, and so was the square, but splatsville used to be something else back when i was forced to use it. honestly, i think actually being able to reside in inkopolis square as usual after side order like we did all of those years ago just made splatsville stand out less, and i personally think splatsville would've been a little more special if i was still forced to use it. oh well, i'm glad i get to hear color pulse every splatfest once again.

    • @lexiw.145
      @lexiw.145 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Ok from my perspective Splatoon 3 is unfinished for a number of reasons. Side Order for supposedly being a rouge-lite does not have enough levels or bosses for it to feel like each run is different. I already had repeat levels 3 runs in which is a shame especially with how many times you need to complete the spire for 100%, TLDR there is not enough replayability not to mention the lack of lore. The catalogue was repeated only a few updates in which gave them the excuse to not add in as much new gear each update, (I really hope they don't do catalogues again next game it's insanely annoying and grindy) the fact that they still haven't added all of the emotes to camera mode, the severs, and don't give me the "It's your wifi" excuse I use and have used the same wifi as when Splat 2 was out and I have gotten 10x more disconnects in 3. Locker physics being abysmal, table turf not having it's own que. Last thing would be 3rd kits but that's not really something I care all that much about.
      Obviously Salmon Run is better, and ROTM is good although it is just an easier version of Octo Expansion.

    A major point I think it's often forgotten is that seasons did a number on them, as they couldn't choose when to drop a big update or smaller updates. They had to rely on the same 3 month gap to release new content or major stuff, which made the game quite stale at times.
    Seasons is a new thing for Splatoon, which showed both good things and bad things. One example of how it was a bad decision regarding new gear was how they tried to use old gear as unlockables in the catalog until they saw it was impossible to publish all that gear in the 2 years with how little amount of gear they offered each season (which that amount was their own choice and it was sometimes rather ridiculous, if you ask me), releasing it all together in an update.
    Working each season to get back your last rank was really cool, but with how terrible matchmaking could become sometimes, you could get a guy who at some point was Top 500 in X rank fighting against S rank level player, and it made zero sense. It was good to keep track of each season's accomplishments but, overall, seasons didn't do much for Splatoon (especially for casual players) and I think it can be maintained for the sake of map releases, catalog, and such.
    Splatoon 3 felt like devs mixing Splatoon 1 + 2 together, bringing conclusion both lore wise and perfectioning the last bits that were missing from Splatoon 2. However, it did try to milk dry past content (especially gear and lore) too much and too obviously. I still can't believe we didn't get losing animations and kensa weapons.
    I loved the new mechanics such as squid roll and squid surge, Salmon Run Next Wave, victory animations, the locker, banner, title and badge customization and the gambling machine (which was much a much needed way to get rid of gold coins).
    All in all, an amazing game I will continue enjoying to my hearts content, despite my complaints. Feel free to tell me anything that you loved from having seasons included! I might be forgetting some good points about that feature.

    i genuinely think this game should have had a 3rd year of updates. Dont release too many new stages and focus on fixing the existing ones. as well as the play on the number 3. 3rd game, 3 years, 3 kits. and the grand festival would have happened in the same year as splatoons 10th anniversary (which would have been *PERFECT* might I add).
    they could have also ddelayed side order a bit and added more content/ story to it. then bundled Splatoon 3/the 3 plazas/ and side order onto the switch 2

    Splatoon 3 really did release at such an awkward time. S2 wasn't going to last forever, but they couldn't stretch out the game either. There *had* to be a new game so the switch could have more multiplayer games worth playing or getting a switch for. Now, having the lite and oled and the endless special editions, S3 had to come out to make the switch as much money as possible. So, S3 is squeezed between new editions of a console nearing the end of its' lifespan, and having to end quickly so the team can focus on making a new game for the successor of the switch. It sucks to see this game go so quickly, and I hope S4 can get some much needed love, but if this series turns out to be the next cod for nintendo, I don't think I'll continue supporting it.

    Behind all the problems including:
    Connection problems;
    Horrible map designs;
    Questionable balancing;
    Lack of weapon kits, exists a movement based shooter that's really:
    Interesting;
    Fun;
    Mechanical;
    Unique.
    And I hate that a game I love so much has had so many problems throughout it's life, that were never fixed.
