Just look at all the options in the submenus like Virtual Mouse for PC! CGA/EGA modes! Outstanding, we take it for granted today, but I never expected something like this back on a 16 bit PC
Not sure if you already knew it but FYI just in case: Win2k does not run on top of DOS like windows 95/98/ME did, so its DOS compatibility was really not that great in comparison. If I was going to run a windows OS in an emulator to run DOS games, Id probably go for 98.
Thanks, yes I'm aware W2K doesn't run from DOS - it's just that I happened to have those disks with VirtualPC and W2K from my dad. Such a strange sight with the Windows desktop on the iMac G4! But true, I do use DOS 6.22 with Windows 98 on my Compaq Armada 1750 that featured in a Short with some games recently.
Cool, never had a mac growing up, but I was instantly an Emulator fan starting the weekend MAME was released, so I definitely would have had this if I owned a Mac lol
Are you sure about running OS/2 in emulation with SoftPC? OS/2 is very picky and fairly diffficult to run in emulation even on modern emulators. If you are looking for a machine to run classic Mac software and 486 class PC software, the PowerMac 6100 has an option for a DOS card, and the machines were fairly cheap. The DOS card itself can actually be used in some '040 quadra and Centris machines with a bit of finagling.
I've been trying to retrace my steps to where I got that from and now all I can find is what it says at the end of this article: archive.org/details/MacWorld_8710_October_1987/page/n11/mode/2up?view=theater It seems like they were planning to do it but maybe didn't in the end. A DOS-card in a PowerMac would be pretty cool. I remember the card was quite pricey back in the day, and now they're very hard to come by.
To be clear, Windows 3.1 is not an operating system. It is only a desktop/windowing software. The first "Windows" operating system was Windows NT, and later the 9x series.
Really cool although that speed seems pretty terrible. How well does it work with networking? Could you get it hooked up to a server and share files? As always great video!
@@retrotechguy yup it got sold when the blue imacs were out i dont really consider it stealing since it only works with real ps1 cds i should make a video i have not had my g3 on in. a while

True, things have come a long way in a short time!
SoftPC 3.1 works on Shapeshifter-PiStorm-Emu68 with RTG Amiga. There's a WIP PiStorm branch for 68000 socketed Atari ST and Apple Mac project.
Wow, cool - that’s pretty emulation meta. I’d like to do more stuff like that with my Amiga in the future.

Second Edition... A fair bit better than the first Win98.
@@markshade8398 What makes it better?
@@McVaio more stable, less buggy, fewer patches, many small improvements and in general just less problematic.

True, and I remember running Windows 3.11 and being seriously underwhelmed since I had already spent some years with System 6 and 7 on the Macintosh.

Thanks! Yes, it is very slow… I haven’t tried networking with the emulator, but there’s an idea!
I had connectivx virtual pc on my g4 with windows 2000 @@retrotechguy They also made the sony playstation emulator to.

Yeah, that would be cool to see.
you are good
Thanks!
nice
SoftWindows 95 was able to run Grand Theft Auto 1 on my iMac G3
Cool, I have yet to try the SoftWindows. It fills the space between the SoftPC and the VirtualPC that I have then.
