It's incredible that you manage to make all 15 min of what's basically first person footage extremely entertaining. My hat goes off to you Brian! Keep it up (as we know you will)! :)
Crashed so hard on a tricky section of Ahab once upon a time. Imprinted me on that trail, now it's the one trail i ride EVERY time i go to moab. Love it.
if TH-cam allowed pictures I'd show you a picture of me taking the saddle between the legs on captain Ahab about six weeks after you were there. planned the whole trip after watching your Seth and Randall's videos and I agree this is the best loop ever
I said it on Facebook before, but just for shits and giggles: Take a look at your technique here and how you move on the bike, then go back to a video from a year ago (i.e. the SB6c review). There are world between these two versions of Brian. It's so inspiring to me (almost 30 and sometimes struggling to overcome some of my fears to get better) seeing how much progress you can still make in a year, even when you're not a fearless teenager anymore.
I wish I had rocky places like Moab to ride near me, whatever super rocky trails I do have I eat for breakfast. Just can't get enough of this stuff, so fun and so many different lines. I love a good challenge
Not sure where you live, but i love living in SLC for this reason. you have hundreds of alpine trails, and even lift serviced bike park style riding in your backyard, and high desert riding (moab, grand junction, cedar city/st george) a few hours away.
@BKXC nice riding! Outerbike seems like an event worth checking in the future! What I really loved though: at 11:27 you push the bike back up and ride the drop! Loving the improvenment and even greater for sharing!!! Keep it up!
Picking up my Ripley today from UPS. I went into the market wanting something with a bright and shiny paint job but ended up going with the black too. Black is the OG cool.
I just caught this older video. Man that was a nasty technical trail. Don’t know if I ever would be able to handle that. You rocked it Brian! No pun intended,
Great video. Glad to see someone else getting flats out there, seems like every time I ride in moab I end up getting multiple flats and having to walk out! Drives me crazy.
I rode that a few months ago when I was in Moab, and I blew out a tubeless tire just as we were going down. It was unrepairable, but I had a nice walk down watching those views. I recommend Moab Brewery if you are still out there.
Never mind the spectacular trail and scenery. This video most prominently features diners, dogs, tire pumping, leaking helmets, testicular damage, and a Brother that shows that MTB talent clearly runs in the family. Yes, Amasa Back must rank up there as some of the worlds best riding. However, we demand you do some more research. You have a commission. Go to the ends of the earth, ride the best trails in the world and bring us the footage. Or just continue doing what you do :-)
It looks so freaking amazing , I live in the Netherlands, taking a trip to Sauerland Germany next week. But it's a dream to be over there on the bike once in my life!
The views never get old! Awesome views! Got you some of that Ibis! Sweet bikes. Hilarious commentary, give you props Brian for feeling comfortable on the bike and ripping down those trails! Yowza! Yeah boi! 😂
If you like Ahab - or other trails in Moab - you should give a shout out to Moab Trail Mix (#MoabTrailMix on facebook), who build and maintain all of the bike trails in the area, and to Tyson Swasey, who designed the Hymasa and Ahab trails.
If your looking for a good dinner go to the Moab Brewery. good job on the videos! keep it up, I will be out there next week to ride the trails and the car show!
Ahab is great. Best in the world is certainly arguable, but it's up there, for sure. Hymasa is a relatively recent addition for the climb up to bypass the old route. I would highly recommend climbing up Cliffhanger (that ugly fire road), which is the original uphill route. It is humbling, to say the least, but I think it's a more interesting - and close to impossible in spots - climb. Most people seem fixated on descending in Moab, though. The beauty of the area is that, in addition to defining what can be done on the downhill, it sets the bar for what is possible on the uphill. There are sections on Cliffhanger that I would have sworn, on first sight, could not be done and yet I finally conquered them. I still have several sections to go, but that's the fun of it. Fortunately, I can hit it with reasonable frequency as I live in northern Utah.
Another amazing video Brian, your riding is top class. As for the trail .... mmmm I reckon its all about what you are used to doing? When I rode some of the trails in Sedona it was sooooo different from the UK, views to die for (like those on this vid) and of course the weather is often superb but the nature of the trails left me frustrated in terms of flow i.e. some of the tracks are so rocky and narrow that just as I was getting into a flow I would then get sections whereby pedal strike stopped me or just couldn't get up the rocks as I didn't have enough momentum ... totally lack of skill and awarness on my part of course but when I ride in the UK many of the trails are obviously not soooo rocky, it often allows longer whoopy sections ... and I struggled following the 'painted dots' and was forever stopping to check! However ... I would love another crack at them as it was really enjoyable and I love the States more than anywhere on earth so hope to come back next year. Fantastic life you are leading mate ... thanks for sharing.
Yes, you're so right about those frustrating sections that bring you to a standstill. But when you get better and better at the crazy techincal stuff it actually gets flowy again! Keep at it!
love your videos man i want to ride all these trails hopefully i have enough energy after i do the colorodo trail to enjoy utah that place looks amazing
I find it MUCH easier to use that digital PSI (I have exactly same topeak one) if you rotate the screen around 90 and rotate the value to the top of the wheel and then you can easily see the hole the nipple needs to enter. Get it 1st time everytime with minimal PSI loss, I used to struggle when using the same position you are at 5:50 or so :) Hope you read this Brian!
Glad you got to finish up www.outerbike.com with the classic that is Hymasa-Captain Ahab - certainly one of our favorite loops too! Hope to see you back at summer Outerbike in Crested Butte this August 18-20. XC AND lift served!
I love your videos Brian! I've just got one small itzy bitzy gripe. I want to show my 5 year old some cool rides and get him stoked. And then...F bomb! It's weird being a dad. I have the worst mouth at work when I'm with the bros. When I'm with my son, however, I'm conscious about my choice of words. Don't worry I'm still going to enjoy your rides, you rock dude!
Hey Dewayne, thanks for watching and I appreciate the concern. It's definitely something I think about, but I really want these videos to be just like a ride along with me, warts and all! It's not the way to the BIGGEST audience, but I think it's the best way to make a deep connection with my audience.
Noticed you're on an Ibis Ripley (LS?) for this video. More impressions vs your Bronson? I was close to going with the Ripley LS or a Yeti SB4.5 before deciding on the Yeti SB5.5. BTW - While in Utah, you gonna meet up w/ Landon B of Mt Bike Enthusiasts of Utah? Seems like a good guy who would be able to show you some good stuff in St George and the like.
I really liked the Ripley! I think if I had better tires I'd really be sold on it. It was light and felt great. Ah, I'll have to meet up with him next time!
Trail Peek , I'm against Trail dogs. It not healthy for dog to run that much. Especially in the desert. Plus when they have to chase you down hill it's really bad for them. Not to mention to pooping all over the place. It seems cool, but in reality it's not.
Awesome. Thanks for posting the details of the flat fix -- you know, I haven't had a flat in so long, I don't even know if I am truly equipped enough for that or other situations. I would like to see a video about the "pack" that BKXC takes to be ready for rides like this. Not just bike repair, but any first-aid kit too? You really toughed it on this one, thanks for suffering for your fans. :)
Brian, just after you said "...let me lead this section" 7:55, there were some pretty tight turns that you followed really well. Was it because you knew the section, or is it pretty easy to follow the blue markings? They look difficult to see when viewed on video.
I knew there was that crazy uphill part at 8:12 I wanted to show him my line. It is tough to follow the blue lines sometimes, but you just have to feel it out!
Yeah man. Hell of a loop. Or just the Mag 7 all the way through and finishing out The Portal. My favorite ride in Moab. Not as much traffic as Porcupine. More technical. Plus seeing Gemini Bridges, the ride along Goldbar Rim is so techy and the views are ridiculous. Plus of course...the Portal. Dang man...the Portal! Uber tech. Deadly exposure. Views. Yeah.
The Jughandle Loop is pretty awesome. Nothing technical to speak of though, could probably be ridden on a gravel bike. The views. Especially over Dead Horse Point. Then the climb out of Shafer Canyon will crush your soul, climbs 1,200ft in 2 miles.
I ended up getting a Ripley LS after trying it at Outerbike last year. Great Moab bike. I upgraded the tires to a Minion DHF and SS. Super fast and tons of grip. Did you get a chance to hit Mag 7 while you were out there?
Great video! Heading out to Moab for 4 days of riding in a couple of weeks. Porcupine, Amasa/Ahab and Slickrock are a given. What would be your 4th ride recommendation? Any way to make the Amasa back area loop a bit longer?
This trail in particular is pedal strike heaven, and I wasn't discouraged or feeling like I was just hitting everything. So not a problem for me on this day!
I'm interested to know if you feel the climbing so much on this trail Brian? It seems like most the up is on fun rocky stuff, so I'd imagine you get distracted from the pain of the climb?
Really good single track through those boulders & stuff. You guys should talk about the bikes more I would be curious to know if your running 29" wheels/Transmission XTR?/ Cranks?Remember I'm retired and still want to know? Product placement! Send me a $1. for that one.
Awesome trail, I proposed to my girlfriend there on Sunday, she was ripping the trails so hard that it was a challenge to get enough ahead of her to get setup for my proposal!!
How do you like that Topeak pressure gauge? Looks like you were having the same issues as a lot of other reviewers on Amazon, in that it lets out some air as you attach it. Is it accurate though? I had the Beto digital pressure gauge, which I got on Amazon. It was accurate and simple and awesome, but two have broken on me so looking for something else.
I dig the gauge, I had it on the wrong setting so that's why it dropped all the air at first. It might not be 100% accurate but at least it gives me a ballpark reading!
I like seeing a rider in front of you. I can see what his bike is doing and get more of a sense of the trail roughness and steepness.
Agree!
I agree to! I also think it could help people lean by seeing what the other person does in a situation.
I agree!
oh yes. I agree also. You can better imagine what kind of course you riding. The camera makes nearly no moves although you going wild over the rocks !
exactly what I thought!!
Hell ya bro!! I really love those extra bits you've been leaving in, it makes the story just that much richer. Great memories from this place!
Thanks dude! We've gotta get back again!
It's incredible that you manage to make all 15 min of what's basically first person footage extremely entertaining. My hat goes off to you Brian! Keep it up (as we know you will)! :)
That's the goal, dude! And I really do my best to keep it fun
Crashed so hard on a tricky section of Ahab once upon a time. Imprinted me on that trail, now it's the one trail i ride EVERY time i go to moab. Love it.
Haha that's the spirit!
if TH-cam allowed pictures I'd show you a picture of me taking the saddle between the legs on captain Ahab about six weeks after you were there. planned the whole trip after watching your Seth and Randall's videos and I agree this is the best loop ever
Such a great loop!! So glad we got you fired up to get out and GO! That's what this is all about.
That's awesome, dude. So glad that pushing myself to get better has paid off!
Yeah, I really enjoy this terrain, so different, so cool!
One Word, RAD!!!!!!!! Great family times is always a huge plus when riding!!!Live-Life-Loud, BRO.!!!!
YES!! Thanks so much
@BKXC nice riding! Outerbike seems like an event worth checking in the future!
What I really loved though: at 11:27 you push the bike back up and ride the drop! Loving the improvenment and even greater for sharing!!! Keep it up!
Thanks so much Anton!!
I I am impressed with your mountain biking skills . You have gotten a lot better since I've been watching you in September
Thanks man!
Fantastic scenery with an equally fantastic if not very technical trail, what more can a dude want man.
It's the total package, I friggin' love it!
Picking up my Ripley today from UPS. I went into the market wanting something with a bright and shiny paint job but ended up going with the black too. Black is the OG cool.
Hell yeah!
This loop is dope. Finally did it two weeks ago and was surprised by the technical features. A lot different than the videos I watched before hand
Awesome!! Yeah man, riding is believing
Heading out with a group of fellas to Moab this weekend. It's our first time, we are jiggity jacked!
Fantastic!!
I should be writing my term paper for class at the moment but couldn't resist watching some more Moab action!! That trail dog is bad ass!
Haha awesome
Another fantastic day in Moab with your brother. some great trails for sure.
Such a great day!
Insane climbing skills dude. Every time the adventure is better and better
Thanks man!! Glad you're digging it
I just caught this older video. Man that was a nasty technical trail. Don’t know if I ever would be able to handle that. You rocked it Brian! No pun intended,
Yeah man, so much of that stuff is still so intimidating.
Dude you never cease to amaze me with your climbing skills! I know the trail is rough a shit, but you make it so smooth. Great job!
Hahaha, glad you appreciate it! I watch some of it back and it doesn't look half as hard as it is in real life!
Great video. Glad to see someone else getting flats out there, seems like every time I ride in moab I end up getting multiple flats and having to walk out! Drives me crazy.
Yeah man, I saw soooo many people broken down that day!
I love these trails. I wish I hadn't been riding Ahab after taking a massive fall the day before. Hymasa is such a fun climb
Ah, that always puts a damper on the ride! Love that climb
I rode that a few months ago when I was in Moab, and I blew out a tubeless tire just as we were going down. It was unrepairable, but I had a nice walk down watching those views. I recommend Moab Brewery if you are still out there.
Hahaha, dang! Yeah I went to Moab Brewery in my last video!
oh man, Moab looks BOSS!!! every time i see that place i get green.
It's a damn fine spot!
incredible loop, can't wait to hit this one day! Btw, early congrats on about to hit the big 50K SUBS!!!! keep up the solid work bro!
Thanks so much man!! Didn't realize I was so close. Holy moly!
Lovely, lovely terrain. My new fav after the Pyrenees.
Such an awesome place!!
How did I miss this? I can't wait to get out and do something like this. Awesomeness...
It's a great one!
Lovin Justin the clips! great work.. I'm going to ride moab sometime in my life!
Hahaha, glad you're digging the bro cameos
Some rough trails man, respect for the way you ride it. Your gimbal was working overtime!
Getting my money's worth!
WOW what a great trail ...
One of the best!
Nice bikes, even better trails. I'd say this one is rather gnarly
Thanks bud!
You are really inspiring for me!
Keep up the good work man!
Thanks Bas, I love to hear that!
These videos get me through some realllll slow days at work, keep them coming!!!! You should come check out some Idaho trails!
Awesome, love hearing that Joe!
Awesome quality video....the views were pristine!
Thanks Troy!
Awesome as always mate!
Thanks man!
Or just continue doing what you do :-)
Hahaha love it Bruce. The search must never end!!
Definitely one of my dream MTB destinations.. One day soon!
Such an awesome place to ride, and there were so many more trails we missed.
It looks so freaking amazing , I live in the Netherlands, taking a trip to Sauerland Germany next week. But it's a dream to be over there on the bike once in my life!
and I also love that carbon viber bottle cage ('bekerhouder' in dutch) lol
I hope you make it, Sam!
The views never get old! Awesome views! Got you some of that Ibis! Sweet bikes. Hilarious commentary, give you props Brian for feeling comfortable on the bike and ripping down those trails! Yowza! Yeah boi! 😂
It was a blast Edd!!
Bad ass riding👊🏽. AWESOME JOB BRIAN
Thanks so much!!
Omg can't wait to ride this weekend
Hell yes!
Drop dead amaze balls scenery! I'd give it a go on my Honzo! But I don't think I'd clear as much as you can Brian. Sweet vid. 👍🏻👍🏻
Do it Jon!!! Thanks man
Rode this trail for the first time in February. Such a riot! Although Hymasa kicked my butt, I'm not used to techy climbs!
It's a great one!
That looks like so much fun!!
It was a good one!
If you like Ahab - or other trails in Moab - you should give a shout out to Moab Trail Mix (#MoabTrailMix on facebook), who build and maintain all of the bike trails in the area, and to Tyson Swasey, who designed the Hymasa and Ahab trails.
Nice!!
Tough riding out there....Good Job!!
Right in the sweet spot of tough but not too tough! Thanks Mark
If your looking for a good dinner go to the Moab Brewery. good job on the videos! keep it up, I will be out there next week to ride the trails and the car show!
Went there in my last video! Thanks man

I approve this message and concur with your conclusion.
Haha thanks Keith!
i was there on SUnday too, started about 11am that day. the jeep were down by the stream with i started up.
Haha nice! We must have come close then

I've gotta try Cliffhanger some day!

Yes, you're so right about those frustrating sections that bring you to a standstill. But when you get better and better at the crazy techincal stuff it actually gets flowy again! Keep at it!
Sessions for days there! I could spend tons of time on that stuff! Looks like a riot!
It's a blast!
That ripley LS looks sexy. I don't think I'll ever get tired of seeing this trail. Hope I make it down there at some point.
A really great bike!
Dang man this really showed off your great riding!!!
Some great stuff out there!
really nice Ride!! difficult parts and some times really close too the edges!! keep it going!!
Thanks Roy!
damn dawg... gnar from start to finish
Gnarls Barkley!
love your videos man i want to ride all these trails hopefully i have enough energy after i do the colorodo trail to enjoy utah that place looks amazing
I hope you do!!
That's a good call!!
Awesome footage man
Thanks Chris!
Glad you got to finish up www.outerbike.com with the classic that is Hymasa-Captain Ahab - certainly one of our favorite loops too! Hope to see you back at summer Outerbike in Crested Butte this August 18-20. XC AND lift served!
Love it!!
yeah boy! that looks amazing !!!
It was a good one!
I can't take my morning deuce until I watch Brian roll up to a cliff at 3:03, the camera always makes it feel like you aren't going to stop.
Hahaha love it
Come back to Northwest Arkansas and ride, they have most of the back 40 finished now and will be working on an additional 60 miles across the highway.
AWESOME VIDEO BRIAN. I just went for a ride today :D
Harrison_jz where do u live man, its 6:40 am here lol
Evan Smith I come from Australia 🇦🇺
Harrison_jz ok, that makes more sense now, where did u ride
Evan Smith just a local trail around where I live
Yeah buddy!
It's definitely one of my favourite trails. BKXC, you should try to make your way up to Squamish, BC. Ride Half and Full Nelson and Angry Midget.
Those are great ones! I've got a video on em!
I'll have to rummage through and take a look for them.
Awesome as always!!
Thanks Jaime!
damn justin is just fast! love to watch more video brian keep it up. i will keep may suport to you! almost 50k subs dude congrats!
Yeah man, he's got the skills! Thanks man
Noticed you're on an Ibis Ripley (LS?) for this video. More impressions vs your Bronson? I was close to going with the Ripley LS or a Yeti SB4.5 before deciding on the Yeti SB5.5.

I really liked the Ripley! I think if I had better tires I'd really be sold on it. It was light and felt great. Ah, I'll have to meet up with him next time!
When are you getting a trail dog Brian?
Trail Peek I enjoy dogs as much as the next guy but they are always in my way when I'm riding.
Hahaha, I'd love to get one, but I travel so much the thing would just get pawned off on my family.
Trail Peek , I'm against Trail dogs. It not healthy for dog to run that much. Especially in the desert. Plus when they have to chase you down hill it's really bad for them. Not to mention to pooping all over the place. It seems cool, but in reality it's not.
corey mclernon Agree!!
Thanks Chris! Yeah, I should do a video about everything in my pack, but I do have a link in the description!
Oh I didn't see that, that's great thanks!
Yes. The Best short loop. The Best long loop is Mag 7, Moab - but you must exit Mag 7 via The Portal!
Haha, that's one hell of a loop, climbing all the way to the top?
Views. Yeah.

Awwww that breakfast awwww!!! Sooooo hunggrryyy! Man those views can never get old!! That's one opinion that won't change lol!!!
Hahaha, great food and great riding!
I've got to go sometime!!
DO IT!
So after riding that Ripley.. which is a 29er I'm assuming...? Do you still prefer the ride of your 27.5?
I ended up getting a Ripley LS after trying it at Outerbike last year. Great Moab bike. I upgraded the tires to a Minion DHF and SS. Super fast and tons of grip. Did you get a chance to hit Mag 7 while you were out there?
AWESOME! No, we missed Mag 7 this time around.
Great. You have a good reason to come back around.
Great video! Heading out to Moab for 4 days of riding in a couple of weeks. Porcupine, Amasa/Ahab and Slickrock are a given. What would be your 4th ride recommendation? Any way to make the Amasa back area loop a bit longer?
Thanks man! Magnificent 7
Quote from this video "my helmet is leaking" awesome!
Hahaha
Sweet. So did you get a lot of pedal strikes on that Ripley?.. That's the main complaint I've heard. But it looks like a fun bike.
This trail in particular is pedal strike heaven, and I wasn't discouraged or feeling like I was just hitting everything. So not a problem for me on this day!
Do you ever see people on hardtails on these trails? Looking to go to Moab next summer
Not that I can remember!
I'm interested to know if you feel the climbing so much on this trail Brian? It seems like most the up is on fun rocky stuff, so I'd imagine you get distracted from the pain of the climb?
Yeah, I was still feeling the climbing because you've gotta hit all these little bursts of hard climbing. Love it!
Hi Brian, curious how the Ripley handled that stuff since it is shorter travel? Great channel man, love it.
It handled it great! I cleared a lot of stuff!
Always great videos. I would have liked some more 'reviews' of the products you were demoing though. I mean, isn't that the main intent of Outerbike?
Thanks dude! I liked the bike!
nice video i like the vlog type stuff before and around the riding ps how's the gopro going
Thanks Max! GoPro is dead
BKXC that's disappointing
Moab, best MTB trails in the world!
Since you just finished Outerbike, think you'll be heading down to Monterey for the Sea Otter Classic this weekend?
I'll be there on Friday at the 11am Danny MacAskill show in the crowd.
Really good single track through those boulders & stuff. You guys should talk about the bikes more I would be curious to know if your running 29" wheels/Transmission XTR?/ Cranks?Remember I'm retired and still want to know? Product placement! Send me a $1. for that one.
I need some Ahab payback, rode that like day 9 and it was hot as balls! It was one of those sufferfest rides instead of enjoying it.
Hahaha, I could totally see that happening!
4:11 "i feel pretty good" suffocating ;-p
Hahaha yep
I guess its what you call bikers high, instead of runners high :p
Capt Ahab used to be a little more doable two years ago, don't ya think? I just rode it two days ago and it really got the best of me!
Interesting! First time I road it was only a few months ago, I don't think the trail existed when I first came to Moab in 2011.
OMG Brian! Climbing like that clipped in? You rock! (Pun intended :-))
Seriously, how do you unclip fast enough when you get stuck on those rocks? Super-cool video BTW
Haha, yeah man, just a lot of practice I guess!
What a trail! When is 360º version coming?
Once the cameras are pretty good and stable I'd love to try 360. Everything I've seen has been pretty bad video quality so far.
PS. The Mavic Drone has a follow function. Pretty cool!
Awesome trail, I proposed to my girlfriend there on Sunday, she was ripping the trails so hard that it was a challenge to get enough ahead of her to get setup for my proposal!!
Hahahaha! That's so damn cool, man.
It might not be 100% accurate but at least it gives me a ballpark reading!
those views! Holy cow!
Pretty special!
That trail looks rough! I could hear your bike screaming😁
Definitely!
Did the pancake house offer your 6 eggs with spinach on top??? Awesome ride, Thanks!
Didn't ask for spinach, had to mix it up!
Great video BK. Love the work!! Please let us know when you get some T-shirts.
Thanks so much Paul!
Brian, although nice, I don't think you have to travel very far to ride the best trails in the world already! Fantastic stuff.
Thanks Darren!
