My heart melts and corroborates and pulses with this album. Every track. Every bit. Split Enz got me through a shitty patch called adolescence, and for that I am ever grateful. Neil, Tim, all of you, I can only hope you understand the difference you've made in the world. Thank you.
This song is hauntingly beautiful. I wish someone would've written a song like this about me. I'd love to be someone's Ghost Girl. Love Split Enz.. I also love how Tim's voice can be angelic, silly, quirky, happy, and manic. He's truly gifted.💕💕💕
Turbulent time for me, Leaving home for university, girlfriend killed in an MVA. Would put on my walkman and run at night through the streets of my small town, at least five miles per night. Weather permitting I would also ride my bike 20-30 miles during the day time. This album and true colors were my constant companions and I'd swear they were infused into my very being. Subsequently laid them to rest for a long time and moved on and have only recently reacquainted with them. A bittersweet time but made me who I am today. Later would find them again with crowded house but that's a story for another day. Thanks split enz.
Pale as the sunrise and cold as the moonlight She suddenly glides into view Echoing footsteps Meandering laughter it's you, ooh Every whisper reveals a dark secret Her first and last love was untrue And behind the makeup are the scars of a breakup You can see it right through The ghost girl Don't get too close boy, to the ghost girl She's already started haunting you Utter despair has a fatal attraction When clothed in a shimmering gown But don't take up where her assassin left off Or you'll be let down by the ghost girl Don't get too close boy, to the ghost girl She's already started haunting you She spooks me, woh, the ghost girl Come to me, woh, the ghost girl In the middle of the night, woh, the ghost girl She spooks me, woh, woh, woh Ghost girl Don't get too close boy, to the ghost girl She's already started haunting you Ghost girl Don't get too close boy, to the ghost girl She's already started haunting you Ghost girl...
Top notch analog equipment with the original LPs on the turntable is the best way to hear the presence and brilliance of this bands recordings. I have not heard any digital rendering on the web that compares.
From the LP entitled "Waiata" (in the U.S.). I discovered these guys, and the Police, one pharmaceutically-enhanced late night in 1981, watching Casey Kasem's "America's Top Ten" (the video equivalent of "America's Top 40"), and ran out and bought this LP and "Ghost in the Machine" the next day. I love the Police and that LP... ...but this LP would be on my Top 10 Rock LP's list. (Addendum, 4 years later:) Is there a genre known as "Spook Rock?" If there isn't, there should be, and this track would epitomize it.
Decent song which i didnt know until recently, in December i made a video for the Split Enz song Giant Heartbeat and Sandy Allen, please check them out everyone, they are in my uploads from December 2018 :)
I return to this song and Walking Through the Ruins a lot. They still hit a vibe. This band should be given far more appreciation than they received.

I don't know why after 40yrs this came to mind randomly. Good song good album.
Incredible band! Always enjoyed the music they released, wish they would have done more. Fun musicians each album was a surprise.
One of Tim's best songs...and terrific keyboard textures from Eddie as usual.
This is a great album, the best of SPLIT ENZ !!
This album is a masterpiece, from the first to the last song.
Ya got excellent taste in music my friend ! I wore the grooves of this LP and turned all my friends onto it.
@@jamesburnsfisher3304 Nice to hear that! Keep the fire of well-made music alive!

Brilliant!!! Been listening to the Split Enz since the mid 70's.

Split Enz music is so Magical...on another level
I occasionally have this song playing in my head and have to come here to Listen to it because it's that Good.
It's criminal that this brilliant song does not have more views and likes.

Pale as the sunrise and cold as the moonlight
She suddenly glides into view
Echoing footsteps
Meandering laughter it's you, ooh
Every whisper reveals a dark secret
Her first and last love was untrue
And behind the makeup are the scars of a breakup
You can see it right through
The ghost girl
Don't get too close boy, to the ghost girl
She's already started haunting you
Utter despair has a fatal attraction
When clothed in a shimmering gown
But don't take up where her assassin left off
Or you'll be let down by the ghost girl
Don't get too close boy, to the ghost girl
She's already started haunting you
She spooks me, woh, the ghost girl
Come to me, woh, the ghost girl
In the middle of the night, woh, the ghost girl
She spooks me, woh, woh, woh
Ghost girl
Don't get too close boy, to the ghost girl
She's already started haunting you
Ghost girl
Don't get too close boy, to the ghost girl
She's already started haunting you
Ghost girl...

Ghost in the machine doesn't touch Waiata.....
@@brianyoung3 Apples and oranges.
Such a strange and beautiful melody. This song stands the test of time very well.
In new Zealand the album was called waiata
Great group! Great album 👌
One of my all-time favorites! THANKS!
What a great song! Thank you!
the best of times!!!!! and the best of split enz...!!!!
This track is still brilliant. Was outstanding live. Hammy Odeon 1983??
Great song!
thank you for the info - i was wondering about those two versions
@Ironhandjohn :) pretty spooky music for an in-flight mix, i guess :P thanx for sharing your memories!
Fuck! Lovin this in 2019
Waiata has a laser etched vinyl. Still have mine, unplayed and in plastic sleeve.
i have the same but i did play it 24/7 lol
Play it....
NZ Version of this album is same cover but titled - 'Waiata'
I think it's the other way around. It was definitely called Waiata with the Waiata artwork in the U.S.
@boocinnamonboo, @olgaswigs glad you liked it!!!
