Let me clarify. Up until now, I've been using Barkeepers Friend + Steel Wool to deep clean glass. I read one of your comments that BKF can scratch glass b/c of the abrasive, but I was under the impression glass is hard and durable to abrasives
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with using Bar Keepers Friend if it works for you. Yes, glass is tough and durable, but I just haven’t tried it in the automotive space and feel it has a higher potential for scratching-though I’m not claiming it would for sure. My main concern is that it could be more time-consuming and messy compared to a wheel acid option. I do use Bar Keepers Friend regularly on my oven glass top, and it works well there. I appreciate the feedback and great discussion!
Great question. It depends on what APC you are using, but this one I used undiluted. A more Alkaline cleaner may be required depending on how the paint and or glass behaves after treated.
@ what is the ph of the apc you’re using? I have LAs totally awesome lying around and it’s a 11-12 undiluted. Can I just use a ph neutral soap after applying the wheel acid?
@@kempthypimp1776 P&S Brake Buster is a PH of 11. Im personally not a huge fan of using cheap degreasers in detailing, but If it’s all you got, it should work if it’s highly alkaline like you said. But also, Putting undiluted concentrated degreaser on your paint is not generally recommended either. Try it diluted and see how the paint behaves 🤷♂️
Thanks for the demo. I have this product for months now but haven't used it yet lol. Maybe I can use it on the car itself panel by panel. But I will start on the front chrome bumper on my Tahoe.
You’re welcome! If your chrome is stained or dull from minerals and buildup, this method can really bring back its shine quickly. Have fun, and thanks for watching!
@ Bar Keepers Friend can remove water spots, and I suppose its an option, but it’s primarily an abrasive cleaner for things like stainless steel and glass cookware, and it lacks the lubrication found in detailing products. While it might work in a pinch, it can be harsh and potentially cause scratches on your car’s glass if not used carefully. For tough water spots, I recommend a wheel acid, which, although not designed for glass, is much more effective at breaking down mineral deposits without damaging the surface.
Thanks for the feedback! If used incorrectly, it can. For example, applying it in direct sunlight and letting it dry on the surface would lead to issues. When you use it a lot properly, you will gain confidence and comfort using it when these situations arise. Thanks for watching!

You’re welcome, Im glad you learned something new from the video, thanks for watching!
Thoughts on Bar Keepers Friend as cheap alternative for glass water spots
Very good coverage of the ways to work those spots away. Hope to meet you at MTE 2025!
Thank you for the feedback! I’m really glad you enjoyed the video. Unfortunately, I won’t be at the MTE, my 4 kids keep me pretty busy these days.

Do you dilute the apc for the neutralization ?

I have plenty of the McGuire's wheel brightener and didn't want to buy wire wheel cleaner right now.
Do you trust the wheel brightener on glass?
Yes that will work perfectly 👍
@highlandsautodetailing thanks for responding.
Do you trust the Barkeepers Friend cleanser on windshield water spots?
I like to ask professionals what I see DIYers doing.
