RV Washing using Di-water for great results

  • We have been using the CR Spotless DI water system for over a year and the results have been great, but the down side has always been that the resin uses up too quickly and this gets real expensive. So we now manufacture a new system that uses the same DI resin but produces around 10 times the amount of DI water. So if you want to convert your CR Spotless system to make it more efficient visit our website to see how it's done.If you prefer to order the best Di water system on the market then visit: rv-mods.com

    Thank you for the great video on the DI water system!! I had already purchased the CR Spotless system and then that same day came across the website of you showing the Pro 100! I didn't realize the resin would not last that long and was upset that I had just purchased the CR unit and there was the Pro 100 that would do 10 times the volume of DI water for $100 more!! I promptly CANCELLED my order of the CR spotless and today I ordered the Pro 100!! I work in the Water/Wastewater industry and wanted something I could use for cleaning the cars/trucks we own as well as the windows of the house. I used water softeners that were not DI (not with ion exchange resin) which were using salt for regeneration and unfortunately they leave salt spots on the vehicle afterwards. Since I am currently working at a wastewater plant I have access to a lab, and I am going to research how to regenerate the resin so I do not have to keep buying new resin. If anyone has a good way to do it I am all ears! Anyway, thanks for the video and for the great product. I cannot wait to get it and start using it!

    Glen...Love your videos which are very informative and useful. We recently purchased an Anthem and bought the Pro 100. Just wanted to bring it to your attention that in the video, you have your valve positions backwards for deionized water/raw water. The valves should be pointed TOWARDS the tank for a spotless clean and toward one another for bypass of the resin. We did a trial run on our F 150 toad and using your valve positions, the toad was covered in spots. Reversed the position of the valves and obtained fantastic results.

      Cheers for that, the small one is awesome as you will get enough resin for 4000 gallons and the unit will take 1/2 cu ft per refill so you'll have enough resin in the small Pro 50 for 2000 gallons (20 washes) this knows spots off the old spotless thing

    Glen, I don't want to come off like a know it all, but, I have been using DI water since 1985. I was first introduced to DI bottle in 1985 because one of the machines I was using used DI water as a di-electric. I am a Tool & Die Maker by trade (retired now) and the machine was an Agie CNC (computer numerical controlled) Wire EDM (electrical discharge machine). I have been rinsing off my vehicles (spot free) since. Not sure if you know or not but the resin can be cleaned and used again and again. I took my resin to Culligan but there are others that will re-generate it as well. It's a lot cheaper than buying virgin resin.

    OK I said I would update my last post so here it is... After reading my post Glenn contacted me right away, Thank you I appreciate that. So I figured out my issue, its in the valving. There are no instructions so you have to play with it to get your DI water. Both valves say only off and there is also a bypass for non DI water to come through. I think I had DI water and non DI water mixing to give me the spots I was getting from the water. Im still not sure if it matters which inlet I use for incoming water. I thought I read somewhere that it better to have water come from te bottom that way all the water will pass by the media. Anyway, washed my truck today and I must say Im quite impressed. We have very hard water and it was nice to not have all those spots and have to race around to dry it. Its a big truck!! Glenn, If you could clear up for me about which inlet is better that would be great. Also, it would be nice to have some instructions on the positioning of the valves. With that said it works!!! Buy it!!!

    Love your posts!! I've been a professional window cleaner for 20+ years and used all type of D.I. systems. Never heard of a tank you describe delivering 4000 gals of pure water.
    We even pre filter the in coming water and the most we have ever received is about 2000 gals, and at that point the meter starts reading 003 - 005, which is still good but not a 000.
    (i'm in So. Calif and the water is not that hard, about 020 - 030. ) I would suggest you put on a "gal. water flow" on the incoming connection and see/monitor the TDS at that point.
    Happy RVing.

    I bought the same setup and I was living in NY at the time where the TDS was 117 going to the filter and the media was $150.00 and it took a while to replace it when the TDS reading hit 56 from 0 that I was getting with the new media. Now I live in Florida and the TDS here is 385 and system brings it down to around 5TDS but the media just doesn't last long and on top of that, the media prices has skyrocketed so now I just use the system as a door stopper, its just to costly to run here in florida or anywhere else where the TDS reading of the water before the filter is over 120.. Great system but way too costly to run. I now wash the vehicle with the 385TDS water and use a blower to dry it off quickly with no water spots, or pull it my vehicles (Ford Mustang and F150 Raptor) into the garage and dry it off 1 at a time.

    • @GreatEscape24
      @GreatEscape24  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I suppose it's down to expectations. The reason that people purchase our system is that it's cheaper than having to get a paint shop to cut and polish your paintwork due to the calcium eating into your clear coat. Also there are many way in which you can make your resin last longer. The problem is that people take no notice and use a ridiculous amount of water pressure which does knock out the resin quicker. I am still using the same resin that I filled my unit with 2 years ago and I wash 2 vehicles per week, every week.

    Purchased the adapter tubes for the CR-120 spotless system and a bag of resin. Hopes was to get more life out of the resin. While I do believe the tubes will produce a better result the resin from this company is horrible. Only got 5 car washes out of the resin. Reached out to Glenn to trouble shoot and all he could come up with was user error. I then removed the tubes and used the inner cartridge from the CR-120 system with a new supply of resin from RV-MODS. Results were worse. Brought this forward and the company would not stand behind their product. Switched back to getting my resin from CR Spotless System.

    ow many gallons do you have to run thru the system, after soaping with hard water, before you get back to zero dissolved solids when turning the valves back on for the tank? Running a few priming gallons thru everytime to get to zero dissolved solids seems a little waststeful, hopefully not too much has to pass thru, right ? Curious if you measured that too (or can and comment), tks.

    Great video and a funny outtake! Greetings from the UK. Just a quick question if I may.....I have a new Vyair 11.7 litre vessel with standard resin etc. I will only be using it for the final rinse on the car. My question is, do I need to drain some / any water out of the vessel in between uses? It would sit for a week or two max in the garage.....
    Does leaving resin saturated in the vessel for a week or two harm the resin?

    How have you calculated that you will get 40 washes from one bag? If you live in a hard water area the Di unit is very expensive to use, soft water area only for DI system . There’s a formula for calculating the approx amount of litres you will get from the water supply TDS, what is that please?

      Hi Ralph
      The best I can describe this product is that it stiffens up your steering and stops wandering, so in cross winds you will drive with more ease, another time you notice it is on bad road surfaces where before the tires would track and fall into the groves of the joining lane, now it doesn't. Also very one I have spoken to absolutely loves this product.
      If you order this and have it fitted in Atlanta they will offer you free fitting or if you order it and have it fitted somewhere else then if you send them a copy of your invoice with the code USA2017escape you will receive some cash back.

    I thank you for your many interesting videos. You are very charming people and very smart. I just cant see how this type of vehicle makes any sense. i have travelled and stayed in the best hotels in American and I still wont have spent as much money and inconvenience as yourselves.
    A new 2018 Entegra costs about $525000, a three year old one cost around $225000. $300,000 lost in value ,fuel costs ,service , storage, insurance, endless trips to a dealer network you mostly condemn, and you have to do all the cleaning and cooking.
    Maybe its me? Rent a nice new car stay in hotels, let someone else look after you and still it wont cost me $350.000 in three years.

      A very good point but it's the way of life and the total freedom. I have thought many a time it would be cheaper to do the hotel route but you wouldn't meet so many interesting people, plus the price you quoted for a new Entegra is not the discounted price that you would pay. I would expect to get most of my money back when I come to sell my RV. But as I say very valid point indeed

    Just received my new system and its not performing as advertised. My water is fairly hard and it is only getting it down to 50ppm. Well that's a problem because that is when you are supposed to change the resin. If you do the math I should still get 600 gal. DI water.( my Water measures at 330 PPM Georgetown tx) I feel the description should be updated to reflect the results of water with higher ppm. Currently trying to contact seller. I will update post after talking with the seller and tell all how it was handled.

    Cool movie! Love the details and tricks, are you using softener resin or 2 different resins for Di water making? ( in Europe we use cation and anion resins in 2 colums for making Di with < 10 Micro Siemens ( conductivity) that gives best rv rinse results! Washing and shampoo removal with hard water final rinse and dry Di water...the millage of your column sure depends on the upstream hardness and contamation of the fresh water source used..hard rinses welll but makes stains...so Di (de ionized) i is the choice ( or Ro, reverse osmosis, thats a filter membrane) before handling heavy bags you may eventually comsider regen your resin multiple times no big deal...the tiny blu system could be regenerated in a bucket.resin is in strainer cylinder, ideal for regeneration and eluates (waste from regen) is a neutral tds mix, off it gose and big bucks saved
    ( other people here use hard water with an inhibitor in it, also brilliant results..) Dow, GE and Rohm and Haas have cheap and great resin n Europe Lanxess all resins are regenerable, they last 10 -12 years no issue so over time Rv cleaning becomes more fun and better Roi...love it ( I wash mine weekly, love washing Rvs)

    Just bought the conversion kit. I was wondering can i store the resin containers with water in them for the winter? I will have to remove them from the cr spotless housing as my garage isn't heated. Just wondering what the storage method is used for the cr spotless plastic tanks as now there will be loose resin in the plastic tanks and no more cartridges i can remove, drain and store inside the house

      You need a resin which is "virgin" not regenerated and one suitable for DI systems. It will be a bit of trial and error before you find one you like and that gives you the best yield. We use resin tech

      Yes it is heavy, but this of course means that it's more stable. When you want to move it you swivel it on it's base, really no problem at all. If you take a look at the Pro 50 www.rvtransformers.com this is more than half the size and perfect for an RV.

    Thanks for a great video but the math doesn’t work. The original CR Spotless system is rated at 300 gallons but with your conversion kit and 40% more resin you suddenly get 4000 gallons. Adding 40% more resin would be 420 gallons ?? The conversion kit assumes no leaks around the seal which is the same as the CR Spotless rating.

    • @GreatEscape24
      @GreatEscape24  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      After the conversion is fitted the system operates completely differently how the water passes through the resin making it far more effective.

      This may sound like a stupid question, why purchase a unit which is known to be very inefficient and then have to pay more to convert it to try and make it useable. The cost for the DIC20 on Amazon is $409. then you have another $60.00 for the conversion plus the additional resin $150. So to purchase the DIC 20 system and the conversion is going to cost you : $619.00 !!!!! Our best top top top system that hold 1 cu ft resin only costs $ 585.00 ready to go with quick release hose fittings , TDS meter etc . All you need to do is add water. You need to seriously rethink this !!

    Does the conversion kit reduce the GPM flow of the CR machine? I see the smaller into now available. For a mobile detailer would you recommend the smaller machine on your site, the cr spotless with conversion kit, or the large machine?

      Hi Tim, I wouldn't recommend the Spotless machine at all now that you know that there is a better solution. I traded my CR Spotless for a Pro 100 and never looked back. I wash my coach & car every week and I change the resin just once a year (even though it's not required) So much DI I don't even switch the by pass valves any more.

    I have the option of using my water supply, which is very hard (35-45 grains) or softened water. It would seem that softened water would make the resin last longer, but I get different stories on this. Anyone have any experience with using both and which is better? BTW, the 4,000 gallon number is going to be greatly effected by the water supply.

    • @peycibeau24
      @peycibeau24 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jeff. I'm just replying to your e-mail. The resin will last longer using soft water as the software filtration has already ripped around 85% of the dissolved solids out of the water the the di resin doesn't have to work so hard.

    Lastly, since this thing is so big; If I used it outside of my house (which your typical house hose psi is at 40-60psi according to goolge), will my hose water be strong enough to get through all this stuff and out?

      @GreatEscape24  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, we get so many requests for products that we set up an official above board site on line shopping site. You mention the size, have you seen the Pro 50? this is much smaller (about half the size) and performs equally as well it just hold half the resin. So to get 4,000 gallons you'll have to fill it twice . The Pro100 takes the whole 1 Cu Ft bag whereas the Pro50 takes 1/2 Cu Ft . The unit is supplied with 1 Cu Ft bag of resin. You won't loose any pressure using the unit. I always tell people that if they use the lowest pressure that they can work with then the resin will last even longer. The Pro 50 is very portable and weighs about 12 pounds. Flow Rate; 5 gpm

      About 5 years, this system has been around for ages, but it's not been marketed to the RV industry before mainly trade clients. I went looking for it as I was getting Pi**ed off with having to keep changing resin after 4 washes. The new Pro 50 is a great size and comes with enough resin to give you approx 400 washes. It's not rocket science just a more efficient way of getting the most form your resin.

      Great Escape Hi. How accurate are the numbers? With the CR20 conversion kit, should I really be expecting 40% more resin and up to 4,000 gallons? It doesnt seem like a big enough change to yield those numbers.

    • @GreatEscape24
      @GreatEscape24  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Harris have a look at this comparison chart: rvtransformers.com/spotless-di-water-system-di-water-system/
      If you compare the spotless units (with the blue cartridges) against the new Pro system using the same 200 ppm TDS , you can see that the new system produces 65% more DI water from 1 Cu Ft of resin. The difference is quite incredible. I think the thing here is not how good the new system is but just how bad the CR Spotless system is. Let me know if you need any more info.

      Hi Robert, I've never actually weighed it The Pro100 (the one shown in the video) is very manageable as you don't actually lift it you sort of roll it in a pivot manor . But I'm trying to get the actual weight for you. Have you tried lifting the spotless machine on the trolly full of water, thats really heavy . If you look at the video, when I placed it in the bay locker it's actually full of resin but not full of water. I'll get back to you if I can find the actual weight

    • @GreatEscape24
      @GreatEscape24  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Robert
      With water the Pro 100 will weight about, 50 to 60 pounds. (not as in dollars).
      The Pro 50 will weight about, 25 to 30 pounds, with water.

    Have you found that the gallons of water estimate is accurate?

    • @GreatEscape24
      @GreatEscape24  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, very in fact in our experience it's underestimated. The problem is there are so many factors to take into account. Water pressure is one, quality of water is another quality of resin etc. So based on a set pressure and a set quality of water the figures apper to be accurate.

    • @MMichaelJJ07145
      @MMichaelJJ07145 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great Escape Are you able to quickly explain why / how water pressure affects the gallons you’re able to get?
      I’m glad I came across this video. I think I’m sold.

    • @GreatEscape24
      @GreatEscape24  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In simple terms, the resin has to grab all of the particles in the water going through it, if the water is going through too fast it.s more difficult for the resin to do its job. Now when the resin is new it will probably be able to cope but after the resin has been used several times there will be less available resin beads to grab the impurities so your water coming out will leave spots. If you reduce the incoming water pressure your resin will work as designed and you will have a spot free finish plus your resin will last longer.

    Im no math major but if you add 40% more your getting about 160 gals more. (400+160=560 gal.. or about 5 1/2 wash..
    I think a redo is call on for all that math and its information my friend...
    Also... have no clue what the cost is on the conversion kit, but that looks like $10 buck at a home depot will buy some PVC and all that you need to do that mess...

    • @GreatEscape24
      @GreatEscape24  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The blue cartridge housings without the cartridges will hold 40% more resin than the cartridges will, but you will get far more yield by not using the cartridges. So once you have used 1 cu ft resin using the system without the cartridges you should get around 4,000 gallons of DI water. Your maths is correct but you can't apply it to this as you are not comparing apples to apples.

    • @lanksterprice
      @lanksterprice 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      So your still using the 1sqft as you refill the cartridges, or you have to re~buy the cartridges each time.. or can you just refill the cartridges with your 1 sqft bulk bag?... Maybe thats what Im missing or Im not understanding?
      Thank you for your time in clearing this up for me..

    • @GreatEscape24
      @GreatEscape24  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok , Let me explain:
      *You no longer use the inner cartridges at all. As these a) hold less resin and b) distort when filled with water causing the top seals to leak which leads to false readings on the TDS meter and also mixes the DI water with the incoming water therefore defeating the object.
      * Add the resin directly into the blue cartridges housings (this is where the 40% more resin comes from)
      * Insert the conversion tubes into the resin and then raise them enough to push into the cartridge housing.
      *Screw the blue housing back on and you are good to go.
      * run about 2 gallons through the system to prime the resin.
      Hope this helps

    Why don’t you just recharge your DI resin?

    • @GreatEscape24
      @GreatEscape24  ปีที่แล้ว

      Di Resin isn't the same as resin used in a water softener which can be regened by rinsing the resin with a salty brime. To regen DI resin you need several very larger tanks of highly corrosive acids and masive tanks to wash and rinse the resin after wards the process. It's a proper industrial process and not cost effective to send it to be regened. Soft water resin is a completely different chemical process.
