    Very cool! Suggestion: If you make another piece with a length of PVC pipe, with the same mating connector, you can reach all the way to the bottom of the tank and get just about all of the resin out. Just start with a longer piece of PVC and use trial and error to get the proper length.

    Good video and very informative, this past weekend I actually installed (2) 20” DI filters in my wet area for when I’m on the road to fill my fresh water tank. At base camp I’ll use RO. I also installed a constant pressure booster pump (110v) that draws from the fresh water tank. Showers are much better now.

    Thanks for the video! I like this method instead of just dumping the tank and hosing it out because I am going to look into a way to regenerate the resin and use it again. I do have to say that I have the same tank and the DI water lasted quite a long time. We have been using a 1800 psi pressure washer which is only 1.1 gpm and also hand washed vehicles with a restrictive shower nozzle and have had great success with longevity of the resin!

Also the unit came with the filter Media already loaded and the Head unit with is threaded into the housing started leaking. I tightened it as much as i can slowed the leaking but did not stop. You must remove it and Apply Teflon Tape and screw it back in and the leaking will stop, it has been 2 days now under pressure and no leaks. It works great, both of my vehicles are wrapped with Xpel PPF and water spotting is a huge problem with PPF and ceramic coating that's on top of it, so i washed and then the final rinse i used the DI water and left it in the sun, did not use a leaf blower or towels..NO water Spots anywhere!!..Happy camper here

    Good job. Now THIS is useful. Thank you!
    It reminds me of when I needed to run an irrigation hose underneath a portion of sidewalk to feed my wife's newly planted succulent bed. After digging a small trench on one end of the sidewalk and a hole on the other end, I constructed a 'hard hose' with various fittings, pvc pipe, and plumbing glue.
    I attached my garden hose to the end that was threaded. The fitting on the other end was a conical fitting with a hole on the tip. With the water on it's simply a hard extension hose. Once placed in the trench I rammed and thrust my hard hose (😈🤣) into the soil beneath the sidewalk until the tip spat out the end where the hole was. After some draining and cleanup I snipped the ends and the pvc then became my conduit. I snaked the irrigation line through the conduit and backfilled after testing water pressure. I setup the rest of the irrigation from that point onwards.
    Happy wife. 😎
    Absolutely subscribing.

    Glen, you could get another 4 inch pipe and make another end, which is not a filter, just a straight pipe for when you drain. That way you can interchange the ends based on function, and it should allow you to drain all the way to the bottom.

    SO....I just tried both ways. I tried dumping out the tank into a bag when the tank was full of water and essentially what happens is that a lot of the water comes out and leaves like 90% of the resin IN THE TANK. If you have never dealt with resin before it gets EVERYWHERE and sticks to anything when it is wet. You will have a huge mess/cleanup when you are through. The other thing about that method for those of you that care about animals is that you do not want to get that stuff anywhere near your pets because if they inject it you will be visiting the vet soon as it will wreak havoc on their system. OK, so I stopped doing the dumping method and then just cut a length of 3/4 inch pipe the same length as the filter rod, put it in, did exactly like in this video putting it into an old pillowcase and IT WOrKS LIKE A CHARM!!! There is NO MESS and it evacuates all the resin! I just lay the pillow case to the side for it to drain and will dump it into a trash bag for disposal. I am going to look into what acids I will need for regeneration of this resin in the future (it is hard to find a safe method). this method is REALLY quick and clean, just turn up the pressure and it sucks it out faster. There is no need to remove every spec of resin but it does do an amazing job of removing it. Refilling the resin is easy using the blue funnel supplied with the DI kit, just cut a medium sized hole out of the top corner to keep from dumping out too much resin at a time and keep shaking it until it is all in the cylinder. When you get to the end the cylinder will be completely full of resin mainly due to it having air between the resin but the bag WILL ALL FIT IN with some shaking of the cylinder. Once you fill it the resin will settle back down to the normal level. All you have to do next is run the water for a few minutes and then use the TDS meter to check for ZERO particulates in the water and you are back in business!!

  • @MonacoMike
    @MonacoMike 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The resin that you use, is that the same resin that goes in water softeners?

    • @GreatEscape24
      @GreatEscape24 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      No No NO, The resin used for Di looks the same but completely different. The resin used in a water softener will remove Potassium and calcium and pretty much leave the other minerals in place which is why we can drink it. DI water rips out ALL minerals and dissolved solids which is why when it dries there are no minerals spots on your vehicle. You absolutely can not and should not drink water that's been through a Di system.

    • @MonacoMike

      After making this video we though " thee's a much easier way of doing this. Just buy a length of 3/4" tube from home depot or lowes and cut it to the same length as your filter tube, then you set to go. As for filling I always add a about 3--4 ices of resin at the bottom and then inset the tube and start filling. Make sure that you put some sort of cover over the tube to prevent resin from going down the tube (not the end of the world if some does go down the tube as when the water is connected it will simply be washed out). As you fill make sure you keep tamping to compress the resin. If you find you can't get all of the resin in, add some water as this will help it settle. Hope this helps.

      The tank can be laid down for transport but has to be in the upright position as the pick up tube is at the very bottom of the unit. Water enters the resin from the head unit travels through the resin and then out from the pickup tube at the very bottom of the tank. Hope this helps

    Hi there, if I didnt want to cut the riser pipe, but would like to do this, could I just buy a pvc pipe from a hardware store that is the needed length and just slide out the normal one, slide in the pvc without filter that I bought and do the same thing? I don't mind having two risers.. if so, what would be the pvc pipe that I need (dimensions/size)? Does the end that goes into the head need to be threaded or anything special or just resistance fitting that holds it?

    • @kilthro
      @kilthro 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I ended up picking up a 5ft piece of 3/4 inch pvc from lowes.. trimmed it down to about the same length of the riser tube maybe a 1/4 inch shorter to allow ample flow as when it was exactly the length, it was too close to the bottom of the cylinder and resin wouldn't easily come out.. Once I got it to the right length, it worked perfectly. All resin came out. nothing was left in there... Then I left out hose on but took off the inlet from water faucet so there was air to allow the water to back out and all the water in the cylinder drained up and out of the di rinse 100... literally didn't take me more than 10 mins start to finish to easily drain resin out, water out, a quick rinse to make sure all was clean... then it took me about 15 min or so to fill new resin back in.. I used a funnel 2.5 inch opening one, and a cup to scoop, and all went well.. no wasted resin.. overall easy process.
