As Jacob Geller once put it: "Every Platinum Game is like: Fighting with this character feels better than any game you've ever played before. Now here's a bunch of other stuff you have to do that isn't fighting with this character."
Jacob Geller is one of the few TH-camrs I'll gladly click on a 25 minute video for without hesitation. His videos are always both profound and entertaining in the process. 'Death is Inevitable in Outer Wilds' was the piece that got me into his channel, and remains one of my favorite videos to this day.
I'd say its a good neutral way to give a rating, safer than saying 1/10 when its not a BAD game - it just fails to meet it's predecessors. (at least with Dunkey's review, not my opinion)
I love how Dunkey can create these these honest, articulate reviews, and then he drops in lines like "How do I unlock the Green Goblin as a playable character?" without changing his tone at all.
yh lmao goes critical one second and then throws in a punchline with a straight face which is why i love his content so much. Man releases banger after banger of vids.
Yeah probably why I enjoyed his review a lot. It's not the posh British sounding person telling you how your view of a video game is shit, but instead like a friend who have an opinion or two about video game
I'm glad someone mentions how wonky the camera is in this game, I miss being able to actually focus on an enemy without having to manual track them even after a hard lock
@Super Succubi the camera is manageable if only the isn't super frantic, with multiple particles effect being ejected into your eyes and sometimes it zoom out so far away from your character making you like controlling a specs of tiny light in the sea of galaxies.
Bayonetta 3 really makes you FEEL like you're playing a video game that was released in October of 2022, with a third person camera, in the beat em up genre with RPG elements, platforming elements, and side scroller elements.
AS a story oriented Bayonetta player (yeah I know, Im starving here), this hit the nail on the head I think. I want this game to get the support it deserves for being such a fun, frenetic, wacky and beautiful game, but it felt like half of the writers adored the Bayoverse and did it justice and the other half took what those half of the writers did and said 'No. Put Thanos in there with lots of pew pew scifi and make him super duper powerful or I don't wanna play anymore. AND DON'T LAUGH HES MY SUPER SERIOUS BIG BAD OC. Also Fey now because I said so." And expected us to respect that. I want it to get support so it gets the sequels it deserves...but I want to find out who greenlit some of this stuff and ask them if they wanna work on another game series maybe. They didn't seem like they wanted to have fun.
"AS a story oriented Bayonetta player (yeah I know, Im starving here)" Yeah I'm sorry, WAT? lol. Maybe I'm not far enough into the first but this is a sentence I never expected to see written unironically. Unless I missed your irony ;) Even in the first (I'm only like 3 missions in), I have no clue what story has kept you going (lol). Maybe I'll find out... But otherwise, what you and Dunkey are saying makes sense. I just started playing Bayonetta 1 for the first time (due to encountering kind of cult like appreciation for it online), expecting wacky and shameless, but this shit is *seriously wacky and shameless* , more so than I expected, with less story than I expected... It's a JoJo's Bizarre Adventure-type game. As a story oriented player in general, Bayonetta doesn't do that so far - *and that's totally fine and even a positive* in this game for me. I feel like story that takes itself too seriously just takes away from that wacky, flamboyant, shameless angle, which is the primary strength - the spectacle of it all. This game (and I assume the series too) is like a shitpost. I want it to be coherent enough to make me laugh, but I don't need or even want it to try too hard to deliver a message.
@@mrahzzz Welcome to the Bayoverse! It's a really fun ride! TBH this'll probably make more sense when you've gotten further through the game, but essentially, I think we all agree on the same point--the chaotic, barely sensical story of Bayonetta is a good deal of its charm, and no one really signed on for a deep and linear story though it's nice to get nuggets of delicious world building where we can. The complaint tends to come less from the wackiness of the 3rd game--the wackiness is one of the things that the game has going for it in spades, we all know and love that vibe--it's more that of the story that is there, the new stuff completely undercuts and often disservices what's already been established. The story not making sense is not just forgivable but embraced--but the story that is there harshing the buzz of the rest of the games? That's, more or less, the issue here. It could have worked, until it kicked our collective fun in the nuts for the sake of false stakes that isn't true to any of the rest of the series. Still, it really was a fun ride till the last half an hour or so! And the new Bayonetta Origins does a good job of showing the players there's good faith left. So enjoy the ride, knowing the road's getting paved ahead of you as we speak!
Imagine playing a bayonetta game for the story and lore. like wat. scratch that imagine even remembering a single narrative beat from a bayonetta game outside of kill angels and or demons
I dunno what your on about, in the firsf bayo i didnt even know wtf the story was about till the expo dump in like the last 3 missions and it was still stupid. Bayo 2 is just bayo save jean and kick ass, thats all, and 3 has no much nonsensical bullshit im not sure why they even put effort into it. Bayo is like any platinum game that isnt neir(they didnt do the story for that). Just an excuse for cool shit to fight

Its also ironic how these game developer at platinum leave capcom to pursue creative freedom have their most popular ip being confined in an inferior handware. While itsuno is given total freedom by capcom to create a game he really want to create. And they do it again with the upcoming dragon dogma 2, another itsuno creation.
@Rute Fernandes 1. Bayo is own SEGA, the first at least 2. MGS as is MGR is bigger than Nier and also their biggest project 3. Off course 4. I know that, but that deal with Nintendo come with a cost -very costly of being held hostage in an inferior system 5 Who said that those change are issue by Mr. N? My concern was (if I could dream off course) those change could be better implemented if the hardware limitation isnt a thing. Like this game graphics are in some area like mesh details and foliage are downgraded compared to the second game for favor of big ass Demon battle 6. Nope, Shinji Mikami (who later leaves Platinum for Tango... good decision btw) and Mr. Twitter royalguard are about to be absorbed to other Capcom devision after Clover studio termination, but they decide to create Platinum instead.
@@Aelvy But they weren't, he never said it was a bad game. He said it was the worst of the three. Return of the Jedi was the worst of the original Star Wars trilogy too, but not many people would call it a bad movie. And getting your ass beat is better than having your dick de-gloved, but that doesn't imply getting your ass beat is good. Dunkey summed the game up very well: every minute you're in combat is fun, and every minute you're not isn't. That's a middling game at worst. I likely won't play it again any time soon, but I'm glad I played it at least once.
@@kenjutsukata1o1 That is his conclusion though. If I order a hamburger and the bun is hard, the meat is under-cooked, the lettuce is wilted, there's no ketchup, and the tomatoes are on the verge of rotting but the cheese is at least how it should be, then sure, the cheese is a positive, but that doesn't mean the burger is good, nor does it mean that I enjoy it even if I choose to acknowledge the cheese being fine. He had very little to say that was positive, and what little positivity he had to offer was directly tied to one or more of the major negatives he brought up, such as how he stated it has a lot of creative and wacky ideas, but manages to make all of them boring. He also ranks the game third out of the series... when there's only three games in it to begin with. Not exactly something you say when you think a game isn't bad, y'know?
@@kenjutsukata1o1 Well when a big part of the game is supposed to be it’s “endgame” and replay value that by some metrics would kind of make it a bad game to me. Likewise i’m happy i played throughout it once but unlike all the other Bayonetta’s I can’t bring myself to want to grind for a Platinum ticket / unlock Witch Trials from collecting birds. When 30% of the game is combat and 60% is Platforming/Minigame/Exploring I can’t exactly recommend the game and say it’s “fun”. The other 10% is switching demons because Climax difficulty makes it mandatory for you to have a specific demon use their ability 💀💀 Maybe im just being negative though.
Bayonetta 3 is like if you got a really good burger from a restaurant but before you could eat the burger you had to listen to some dude talk about how much he likes licking toes
On point review! Just finished the game last night and was overwhelmed by the incredible last stage and its storytelling there - which was surprising considering how underwhelming the storytelling was everywhere else (besides the opening stage). I missed all the hilarious interactions bayonetta used to have with her companions, how the game used a narrative to drive you forward, and how precise the combat wanted you to be. In this game, just like you, I found myself getting platinum and pure platinum medals by choosing the longer range melee weapons and spamming away (while not being able to see my character 25% of the time). Still, the third best bayonetta game is still way better than most other fighting games though! As a longtime fan, I was just hoping for more.
what storytelling? characters just appear outta nowhere to help, luka becomes himself for maybe 20 seconds, bayonetta does the heart rip out for the 30th time. its mostly just more big action scenes and a twist that doesnt feel like it was earned.
Thru all the jokes, this is pretty spot on to how I felt. Story is so bad it actively hurts the expereince, and there's so many half baked gimmicks getting in the way of the fun combat. And even then that combat is against enemies with very little variety and a lot of visual confusion. A fun but suprisingly messy time coming from the guy who basically made this style of game.
@@Minarreal My mistake, i thought he was straight up Mr. Director. Still, as a supervisor I imagine he had some say and wasnt just eating chips and blocking people on twitter, or at least not the entire time :P
The story isn’t bad, you simply don’t understand it. Something being confusing at first doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing, it’s just a lot of info to take in and break down. Isn’t just your fault though, this is the case with 90% of other people who speak on it as they likely either haven’t even taken the time to read through the lore that the game goes to great lengths to provide the player thoroughout all 3 installments, or only play Bayonetta because it’s an attractive woman killing Angels and Demons.. which is fine, but when your perspective on the series is so surface level it really hurts truer fans of the series when people are just flinging around misconceptions and accepting their lack of knowledge on the franchise as fact. The majority of the lore you piece together comes from the actual game menu books such as Hierarchy of Laguna, Lemegeton’s Guidebooks, etc etc.. and it’s even sadder because I can almost guarantee you that majority of the Bayonetta fanbase hardly even know these books exist to be read through in the first place. The whole Multiverse story has been alluded at since even the very first Bayonetta. It’s getting a bit annoying to see so many people speak so confidently on a story they know extremely little about.
@@TheMagicNimbus I'm a long-time fan that loves the lore, the story is not very well structured. They weren't even able to actually explain what Singularity wants in the first place, even the description.
For real, unlocking the Green Goblin as a playable characters is still the coolest secret I've ever experienced, and it's yet to be topped in all my decades of gaming.
Are you playing along with Dunkey's joke, or are you referring to the Spider-Man movie tie-in game from 2002? If it's the latter, I'm with you there. That blew my teenage mind. That game was actually really good and I'll fight anybody who says otherwise.
@@kenjutsukata1o1 the latter. I can't believe that there even was a cheat code specifically FOR the secret character, new voice lines, new responses, just insane amount of fun added for what is practically a secret that back in the day would ordinarily be a lie someone tells in the schoolyard, and for what today would ordinarily be 20$ half-baked DLC. The creators said in an interview that the story is basically an after thought. They concentrate on making the levels and everything "cool" first, then mish-mash whatever lore they can come up with. While I do understand that the gameplay is the most important part of the game, it explains the wonky dialogues and simple narrative they try to over-complicate with details since the first game.

I like how bayonetta 3 has more Michael Bay type storytelling than Transformers Devastation, agame from platinum games, which has a very simple story with interesting addition to the lore
Ironically, Transformers Devastation is Platinum's least Michael Bayified game. At least out of the ones I played, having skipped their other licensed games and the live service one.

The story is literally a fever dream held together with wet paper towel and scotch tape. So so so so so bad. I am glad people enjoyed the combat improvements but I feel alone in thinking it wasn't even that fun. Really felt like "gain distance, use demon slave, repeat". Maybe I just "don't get" the combat system since it seems to be overall well adored. Camera was clunky and felt basically unplayable unless docked. Didn't much care for the Niphlheim portals either, most of them felt pretty cheap. I avoided them about halfway through the game. Really appreciated this review.
diehard bayonetta fan but plat really dropped the ball on this one for me. bayo 1's combat was the perfect foundation for a deep combat system to evolve through a whole franchise. i don't really understand why people aren't generally super pissed about the change from weapon pairs to having only one weapon usable at a time. that was the best and most unique thing about bayonetta's combat. could you imagine all the weapons they give you in bayo 3, and on top of that being able to use them in pairs, and on top of that monster summons???? bayo 3 could have been amazing /:
I was expecting a supercut of the dozen cutscenes where Bayonetta points her gun at somebody with a stern look on her face and doesn't fire or say anything as the bad guy drones on his monologue. Did these people play the first game to know what Bayonetta usually does in these situations?
The only games that get a more serious toned review from the Dunk are those that must have truly dissapointed him. Great review, keep up the amazing work!
The story and sewer green color pallet killed it for me. I miss fighting angels and infernal demons mostly. That and the whole multiverse bs was exhausting.
Gotta say you are one lean video making writing machine. Gotta hold off on watching this one until I beat the game myself. Many kudos and hope you are getting enough sleep.
Just finished the game and I really enjoyed it. Dunk, your comments are fair and warranted. I myself wished Viola's witch time mechanic was reworked so enemies wouldn't bounce 50 feet away from me after a successful parry. Story writing in any media is hard and is probably most difficult in video games. I think different kinds of games demand different ways of storytelling. The Yakuza games can fit a whole soap opera within 100 hours of cut scenes and the Legend of Zelda BOTW can fit 100 hours of storytelling with no cut scenes. Platinum Games did setup their cut scenes to have a lot explosive action, but they also included moments of silence where characters exchanged glances and the story writers trusted the player would understand the sentiment communicated there. Could the story content be improved? Yeah it could. Should the game omit the wonky platforming sections? Yeah probably. Should the game omit the game play systems that aren't the main combat system? Maybe, but I did like playing as huge Godzilla monsters because its fun and shows Bayonetta is a beast. I could not help but shed a tear at the end of this game's conclusion, but I do appreciate your criticisms Dunkey as they are insightful and are intended to help future games become better.
@@carlitos.reviews You've expressed pretty much exactly my thoughts, I enjoyed the experience from start to finish. I liked the new additions and actually didn't mind the exploring and platforming because you get to experiment with the movement capabilities of your demons and not only the combat part. I loved Viola and the story, though I agree it can be improved and I can see where the complaints come from but for me it was pretty much just what I wanted
The thing about games like Bayonetta, is that they could literally have NO story, and I would still love them. Just throw waves of enemies at me, give me new weapons, demons to summon, and mega bosses. I’ll be happy just ripping through everything in style, trying out new combos. if any of that interests you, you should buy this game.
@@luisfillipebeserra2108 did u even read what OP wrote? He wanted good combat where the story doesn’t get in the way of ur flow. Then the dude recommended Dmc5 because of that, go chill off before u get frown lines from all that passive aggressiveness
Completely agree. Gameplay/music/level design mostly great, but the story/characters were so damn flat through so many chunky cutscenes, really unfortunate ending choice too, holds it back from being an excellent game
The level design is worse than something you would see in ps2 games, what frame of reference do you have where these levels (if you want to call these ugly ass hallways/linear paths) are well designed? GoW2 was a ps2 game and makes this look atrocious.
@@CDRW24 sometimes it feels like a hallway because there's no interesting geometry to jump/move around on. Everything is extremely flat and uninteresting then you move on to the next big flat uninteresting area IMO.
@@CDRW24 yes, just because the area is visually designed differently than a hallway, doesnt mean its constructed much different than a hallway. Many areas are just small, uninteresting, basic and simple paths that funnel you to the objective with maybe an off shoot here and there that leads you to a cube to smash. Go ahead and repeat that for 7 out of the 9-10hours you might be playing the story for. The only thing interesting in this game is the combat, damn near everything else is disappointing for a game that releases in 2022. If you are impressed by ANY of this then I feel like maybe you've never played a game before, or simply have a very limited perspective and that's fine.
dunky, love your reviews. So much awesome analytical info. Amazing for those who are interested in Game Design. And I love your humor endlessly. Thank you for what you do. ❤
My favorite thing about Bayonetta 2 is that it was just the first game with less fluff. No insta-death QTEs, fewer minigames, less annoying cutscenes, ect. So to hear the third went back to bad habits is very disappointing.
Sure, but at the same time bayo2 is very unbalanced and unforgiving if you're somehow "middle" player for action games. I'd rather have QTEs but combat I can enjoy than a fact that I have to *really* sweat to be good. Wasn't an issue for bayo1.
Dunky: If devil may cry is a game where you try kill things and look awsome bayoneta is a game where you look for your character. Me: remembers every part with V
@Pointless Rat Race but tbh V is easiest to play as for new players (based on every play trough I watched of different yputubers) but for not new players he is so boring to play 😭😭
This is exactly why, as cool as giant monsters definitely are on a purely conceptual level, they're usually not a very good idea in actual gameplay practice for a lot of reasons. If you aren't absolutely certain you can nail it, I'd say it's better to avoid monsters that are drastically huger than the player character entirely. A fun fight always beats an annoying fight, no matter how much of a flashy setpiece that annoying fight is. And not even being able to tell what's happening because the camera system simply can't properly communicate a fight at that scale is never fun.
It's hard to say, I feel the same with dunkey where the third did leave me wanting a bit more. But the combat is a solid upgrade overall. I didn't really hate the story either, but the game did feel like it did drag on a bit. Overall this was a good review on dunkey's part cause you can feel him explaining the pros and cons of the game. That, and the Train-Saw weapon is very satisfying.
Tell me you really aren't that stupid and that what you're saying is complete satire cuz if you don't know you have been living under a rock they remove the dislike button on TH-cam completely if you don't know 🤦♂️😒
If anyone cares, Bayo 3 runs on a new engine and Bayo 3 is the first to use it, it's called Platinum engine or something and that's most likely why there's various new mechanics and mini games. Hashimo also left plat in 2019 and I think that's a biggest reason the scenario sucks.
Even though I really disagree with Dunkey in this video, I still want to take a moment to applaud him for how well thought out and logical his videos are. Even when I disagree with him, he still makes valid points about why he likes or dislikes a game, and even if he fucking despises a game, I can usually tell if I’m gonna like it or not regardless. He’s somehow able to pack more information, comedy, and wit into sub 5 minutes than most reviewers can into 3 hours of video. Never change, Dunk.
Which is why he made a video about critics. And the importance of finding a critic that relates to your values. Or, respecting a critics opinion because you know where they stand on things vs just some random review of nothing
The way the multiverse bayos die is the Stupidest thing I have ever seen Yes bayo 2 has established that bayo has some severe lack of spacial awareness but the amount of time bayos gets blindsided in this game is insane
As a huge Bayonetta fan that just completed 3, yeah. You right. There are some incredibly hype moments, but those are ones like the first time she goes DO IO BAYONETTA. Not only was the story basically an overly long fetch quest, the twists were all predictable as hell, there was not a single dramatic reveal throughout the entire story that wasn't telegraphed long beforehand. During chapter 8/14 I messaged my friend what I thought the ending would be, and two days later messaged them "I was right and I hate it." It's like they looked at the first two, and concluded that they could get away with a cliche filled plot without the characters and general fun that carried the first two.
every other chapter in this game has a big DO IO BAYONETTA moment, it really loses its specialness when it feels like an obligation that the game must do rather than something special. everything was big so nothing was
This game straight up triples down on my biggest beef with bayo 1: and that's the unwanted minigames. The core gameplay is too strong for platinum to just keep tossing tedious distractions at us. The game is at it's best when you are in the witch trials. Enemy variety skyrockets and it's all combat. No fuss or frills. Just the meat of the gameplay. If you are a bayo fan, get the game, and unlock everything, and get your butt to the witch trials. And that's the game.
While the gameplay was always what had me coming back to the first Bayonetta, the mystery and intrigue of the plot was what made it a good story. It had a good balance between being fun and flirty and feeding you pieces of the puzzle. You're right there alongside amnesiac Bayonetta seeing each event/memory and wondering what it means. Who is this vague creepy voice I keep hearing in my head, what are the "eye's of the world", what is this weird cult town about and why do I have memories of being here before? Why is gary oak challenging me to a pokemon battle every other chapter and why is he a hot blonde dommy mommy? Why is there a little girl who looks just like me. Am I my own mom? I don't want to be that guy but multiverse stories are almost always the same kind of garbage. They try to make it seem like there's some greater evil that's always the most boring villain in the series and none of those more interesting villains you fought before matter at all. People who write these stories seem to forget that little things are what give life to a world. The average person doesn't give a shit about the greater good or the universe. We'd much rather watch the more down to earth struggles of a well written character or two. They could have made it about Viola as she tries to live in the shadow of her incredible mom while trying to revive the Umbra witch clan. She has a heavy burden to bear being the only successor to the last of the previous generation of witches while still being a novice herself. As the worlds affairs get out of hand, maybe she has to find other people with potential to join her cause. Without sages and witches, the angels and demons would be free to wage war on earth and the new generation would stand united as one clan to stop them. I don't know it's an idea. I'm also not a fan of the giant monster fights when your character is basically an ant on the screen. At least in the first Bayonetta when you fight the Cardinal virtues the focus is always on Her. It's kind of a problem in a game where you are rewarded for not taking damage and dodging when you can't see your character in a fight.
The average person cares average the greater good but they can't imagine universal or multiversal much less global stakes. The problem is that they're using a generic serious bad guy for this, Green Goblin was a great villain in No Way Home and that was a multiverse story.
I totally get it. The fight with super madama butterfly where she forces the creatures eye open and the little bayo on her shoulder punches the shit out of the eye was when I went "Oh man, more of THAT"
I thought that the great stuffs about multiverse stories are less about the villain causing it and more about the characters, like power rangers or kamen riders interacting with one another. They're often not A-tier plot, but we know the characters so they can be pretty fun to watch.
Still waiting on a DMC and Bayonetta cross over game. If they play it smart, they could just make a fun ass game with the characters. Story can be whatever as long as its not hot garbage and has some attention to it.
On the surface this looks like a game that had development issues, good ideas and mechanics that weren't implemented correctly and what seems to be a rushed story
I really enjoyed playing Bayo3 mainly because of how fun the combat is. In terms of story, I prefer Bayo1 and 2 just because of how convoluted and fun it was. Bayo3’s story was pretty cut and dry. I agree that they were too serious with this one, but it makes sense for the ending
I remember when Dunkey accounced he won't make any League videos, I was afraid what else he can post on this channel. And to be honest I think his style and jokes are more clever and entertaining than ever. Cheers, Dunk!
what also kind of harms it is that the enemy is really just 1 guy and you don't really destroy them in a graphic or silly ways as before, like the angels used to get messed up as the fight goes on until getting finished off gruesomely/humiliatingly! the slime guys just... idk more video gamingly explode. so do the bayonettas. the abilities they give you are cool as heck though
you can tell that Nintendo exerted alot more of their influence on this game. instead of Bayonetta getting more naked as you do a bigger combo she just transforms into a devil trigger form.
Singularity and his homonculus drones were so boring. The designs of all of these enemies were a huge step down from the angels and demons. In the first 2 games fighting felt like dancing and the enemies were designed to be good dance partners. In this game, it seems like the enemies are just waiting to be kicked around by the large demons.
@@zengamer21 Yeah I really liked their designs but they were a bit too stiffy for me. Would have liked if they had more personality in their movements. Maybe they could have animations based around traditional hindi dances.
On one hand I think it's unfair to compare Bayonetta 3, a Switch game, to DMC5, a PS4/Xbox One game... but it's so hard not to since Bayo is the only true rival left to DMC.
Instead of reviewing Bayonetta 3, you should review the videogame Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze instead. On top of that, you should also review the videogame Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
Literally the best moments of plot feel like a modern KH game. the intro is solid, and so is the conclusion. But everything in between was just kinda serviceable and thats it.
I wouldn't say the conclusion is solid though, it came across very rushed and unpleasing to me. Sure the characters spent some time on screen together and the twist is given decently well but there's not much of a reason for them to actually care this much about each other besides multiverse shenanigans
Kh2 and kh1 at least had a memorable final dungeon and you knew that the cliamx was coming near. Literally the last playable stage in Bayonetta 3 is damn Paris (the rest is a pure corridor)
@@thewallsspeaktome3507 agreed, the conclusion just got me dissapointed, sigurd doesnt have any motivation, theres maybe a paragraph in the book or something but nothing thats all that interesting
Many time when I was playing this game; I just started slamming buttons and wondered to myself, “Is this actually what I’m supposed to be doing?” And the game goes, “Ting! Yeah that was right.” Even though I love the Wonderful 101, during the last stages this is how I felt. I had to put that game down for a year and started fresh to finally beat it.
to be honest thats how i played 1 and 2, but at least in those games i was punished for it. im not good at these sorts of fighting games or practicing combos or whatnot. but even for me the combat in this game felt like it played itself for the most part, and i would have rather had some challenge to at least make me try to learn the games systems
Bayonetta 3, co-directed by Michael Bayonetta, is the third installment to the Bayonetta franchise. It packs a lot of action that you can't even see you're Bayonetta while fighting other Bayonettas. It is truly one of the bayonetta games of all time.
I started taking epilepsy seriously when I played Bayonetta 1 on ps3. It was my 4th hour of the day and so much was happening in the game, I suddenly got dizzy and I wanted to vomit. This game gave me headaches, but the story and the combat always kept me going. When I finished the game, I was extremely happy with the ending. I searched for the sequel but they didn't launch it on ps. Anyway, Bayonetta has much love from me, it gave me epilepsy and made me stronger, it also cured my epilepsy.
You know, about that "not being able to tell what's happening on screen during a fight" criticism... yeah, that's pretty much a a staple of Platinum Games right there. I was playing Nier Automata and, at a point, I was pretty much just smashing buttons and hoping the fight ended soon. I literally had no idea if I was winning, I was just relying on the auto healing and crazy combos. Difference is, with Nier Autamata, even when I wasn't fully sure if I was playing right sometimes, the story kept yanking me forward, so it was never a big deal. At worse, I was confused and disoriented. But when the combat slowed down a bit, or it was a one-on-on, OH BUDDY. Nothing quite like it.
tbh it feels like Bayo 3 is a little worse though, maybe because of all the tiny details they added (e.g. compare wicked weaves to demon masquerades), plus big arenas with big summons which make your character super tiny on your screen. Everything is shinier and flashier, too, which slightly obscures the flashes that are supposed to be generic tells for enemy attacks

"AS a story oriented Bayonetta player (yeah I know, Im starving here)"
Yeah I'm sorry, WAT?

That is his conclusion though.
Saying bayonetta is a fighting is like saying gta is a racing game.
what storytelling? characters just appear outta nowhere to help, luka becomes himself for maybe 20 seconds, bayonetta does the heart rip out for the 30th time. its mostly just more big action scenes and a twist that doesnt feel like it was earned.

The level design is worse than something you would see in ps2 games, what frame of reference do you have where these levels (if you want to call these ugly ass hallways/linear paths) are well designed?
GoW2 was a ps2 game and makes this look atrocious.
@@SoloPlayerSama Did you even play this game if you're referring to it as hallways?
@@G3N0M3501DI3R I legitimately don't get how the areas feel flat to you because I'm constantly seeing towers hills, or secret tunnels in every level.
The Playing-as-Bayonetta parts are so much fun
And the Non-Bayonetta parts made me want to turn the game off
dunky, love your reviews.
It got rid of the crap but the combat and enemy design was worse, additionally it overly relied on witch time.
Sure, but at the same time bayo2 is very unbalanced and unforgiving if you're somehow "middle" player for action games. I'd rather have QTEs but combat I can enjoy than a fact that I have to *really* sweat to be good. Wasn't an issue for bayo1.

V almost ruined the game for me, he was horrible to play as
@Pointless Rat Race but tbh V is easiest to play as for new players (based on every play trough I watched of different yputubers) but for not new players he is so boring to play 😭😭
V wouldve been good if his pets attacked and canceled instantly, like an extension of himself instead of summons
I think v is cute but its telling that hes the only character i never bother using in bloody palace
nah V was hype tbh. you’re just not supposed to play him like you do with the others.
Combat so intense you'll get lost , go through a mid life crisis and wake up.

Also, the game was always a bit of an identity crisis, as you can see, Thule was left over bits of the open world they wanted to do in Bayo 3.
The way the multiverse bayos die is the Stupidest thing I have ever seen
Yes bayo 2 has established that bayo has some severe lack of spacial awareness but the amount of time bayos gets blindsided in this game is insane

During chapter 8/14 I messaged my friend what I thought the ending would be, and two days later messaged them "I was right and I hate it."
It's like they looked at the first two, and concluded that they could get away with a cliche filled plot without the characters and general fun that carried the first two.
I liked 3 but man the original is just does so much things better.
Should I still buy it, and is it worth the time?
@@03e-210a oh 100% it's awesome. I enjoyed it.
every other chapter in this game has a big DO IO BAYONETTA moment, it really loses its specialness when it feels like an obligation that the game must do rather than something special. everything was big so nothing was
This game straight up triples down on my biggest beef with bayo 1: and that's the unwanted minigames.

That's dunkey for ya
It also didn't even end up mattering or changing anything
@@thekiss2083 I'm pretty sure it caused the game to sell more copies than if it was never announced
Multiverse stories are always huge cop outs found at the creative end of a franchise.
@@Hell_O7 Yeah exactly
Dunkey was able to make an entire video about Bayonetta 3. Incredible.
Still waiting on a DMC and Bayonetta cross over game. If they play it smart, they could just make a fun ass game with the characters. Story can be whatever as long as its not hot garbage and has some attention to it.

I remember when Dunkey accounced he won't make any League videos, I was afraid what else he can post on this channel.

what also kind of harms it is that the enemy is really just 1 guy and you don't really destroy them in a graphic or silly ways as before, like the angels used to get messed up as the fight goes on until getting finished off gruesomely/humiliatingly! the slime guys just... idk more video gamingly explode. so do the bayonettas.
the abilities they give you are cool as heck though
you can tell that Nintendo exerted alot more of their influence on this game. instead of Bayonetta getting more naked as you do a bigger combo she just transforms into a devil trigger form.
omg yes.
Old games had Angels loosing armour and skin, and get all bloody. You can visually tell how easy you were whooping their butts.
Honestly hated the ending. Waited years for this game only to have them ruin any future entries of the series by miss cringe-fest.
On one hand I think it's unfair to compare Bayonetta 3, a Switch game, to DMC5, a PS4/Xbox One game... but it's so hard not to since Bayo is the only true rival left to DMC.
Final fantasy XVI will also be worth comparing

Dunkey makes very valid points. But I still loved the game immensely

Many time when I was playing this game; I just started slamming buttons and wondered to myself, “Is this actually what I’m supposed to be doing?” And the game goes, “Ting! Yeah that was right.”
Even though I love the Wonderful 101, during the last stages this is how I felt.

Cause that game was written by the goat Yoko Taro and this one was not
tbh it feels like Bayo 3 is a little worse though, maybe because of all the tiny details they added (e.g. compare wicked weaves to demon masquerades), plus big arenas with big summons which make your character super tiny on your screen. Everything is shinier and flashier, too, which slightly obscures the flashes that are supposed to be generic tells for enemy attacks
It's gotten worse with their games over time.
If only the main character Bayoneta could have collaborated with Knack, then this game would actually be good
