    Dr Williams is definitely making Oxford more approachable! He's very articulate yet humble nd this is definitely breaking a lot of myths around Oxford University! Thank you Dr Williams and Jesus college for the effort!

    In a way, applying for the university should mean that you're prepared to take on the work-load and accept it almost like a consequence of getting in.

    Do you have any advice for a student applying to study history? Perhaps some advice for the HAT and interview? Many thanks :)

      Absolutely! There's this video on the HAT: th-cam.com/video/xsStONvSiAI/w-d-xo.html
      And, some history lectures, including this on use of "magic" in WW2: th-cam.com/video/d-BYQgIl1hg/w-d-xo.html

    Hello! I have heard a lot about Oxford's generous scholarships and bursaries for UK students, but I was wondering what sort of funding and resources are allocated for international students (undergraduate level). I have found some scholarships that are available, but are the bursaries applicable to international students too?

    • @JesusCollegeOxford1571
      @JesusCollegeOxford1571  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm afraid bursaries are not available to international students. Some scholarships are, most notably the Reach Oxford Scholarship: www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/undergraduate/fees-and-funding/oxford-support/reach-oxford-scholarship
      There are more scholarships listed here, some of which are available to international students: www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/undergraduate/fees-and-funding/oxford-support

    Hi is it still the case that only 3% of poor white working class boys go to oxford hope its changed.

    • @JesusCollegeOxford1571
      @JesusCollegeOxford1571  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It has changed, but much still needs to be done. Our work focusses on Wales. Jesus College is known as the Welsh College. The figures there are as follows:
      -- There's been a 20% increase in applications from Welsh state schools to Oxford in 4 years.
      -- There's been a 32% increase in offers to Welsh state school applicants.
      -- There's been a 55% increase in the admission of Welsh state school applicants.
      No complacency allowed.

      @@JesusCollegeOxford1571 Excellent would that be the same in England in different colleges . What i mean is if i have the grades in A level i have just as much chance as anyone else with the same grades .

    • @JesusCollegeOxford1571
      @JesusCollegeOxford1571  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@simonamos9468 Yes, that's exactly right. We cannot (nor would we want to) treat applicants unfairly. But historically the system has clearly favoured privileged individuals, simply because they have access to better support. Our outreach and access work seeks to address these imbalances, and we consider contextual data (such as an individual's school and their wealth) when judging how well they have performed in A-levels, relative to someone with much greater resources and support.
      This doesn't mean we are biased against privileged people. I'm ridiculously privileged myself! It means that we make a much more careful assessment of what excellence and potential mean when judged against context.
