- The old west is one of the biggest vacuums of folktales and storytelling in any period in American history or otherwise. And nothing completes a story like the good guys versus the bad guys, your point of view on who was who notwithstanding. To gather a better glimpse into the lives and legacies of some of the finest heroes against the seemingly undying waves of criminal activity, here is the first in a series of videos detailing brilliant United States lawmen figures of the wild west. First off Bass Reeves wasn't a bounty hunter, he was a US Marshall (the First Black US Marshall)
Bass wasn't the first black US Marshall, he was among a batch of 20 black men sworn in as US Marshall's. He was however the most successful Marshall earning $2 per arrest plus any reward posted for those arrested. He worked for Judge Issac Parker as a Marshall from 1875 until 1907 when the Indian Territory became Oklahoma.

"The greatest lawman in the history of this America" Bass Reeves arrested 3000 people and only killed 14 as the first Black deputy U.S. Marshals.
And, live to the age of 71. This is the standard death of a person in today's society.

Please change the title: Bass started off as a Posse Man before becoming the 1st Black US Marshall!!! Other than that, it’s a very detailed documentary. Keep up the great work.

The portrait picture of a lawman used in the beginning standing at a fence is not of Bass Reeves it is definitely not acceptable since it is not him but a cabinet card of someone passed off at Cowan's Auction in 2020.
It's most likely just a stock picture being used for a fill in

your videos are lacking in authenticity. You used a .22 to authenticate a late 1800's revolver. C'mon guys, take the effort to include relatively authentic videos or pics.
The use of .22 caliber pistol and rifle is really hokey, neither gun was even in existence at that time. I've read the book about the life of Bass Reeves
and this video missed too many of the high points of his extraordinary career. This is not very well done. Very amateurish.

Newspaper reporters actually followed him and reported. I read one of the reports "Bass Reeves is Sick" before he got ill. You can read an actual newspaper googling "Bass Reeves Dies at His Home" Many newspaper reports with his funeral being a large one attended by blacks, whites, and Indians. Western Age Newspaper:
"Muskogee, Okla., Jan. 2 - Former Deputy United States Marshal Bass Reeves, a giant Negro, who was in many battles with outlaws in the wild days of Indian Territory and during Judge Parker's reign at Fort Smith, is on the Muskogee Police Force... He is now over 70 years old and walks with a cane... He is as quick of trigger, however, "
Mr. Bass Reeve's History is, by enlarge, a matter of DOCUMENTED HISTORY.
Especially his work as a Lawman. Like the time he demanded to be given the warrant to bring his own son.
After no one else took it out of respect for Mr. Reeves. The places he worked. The men he bought
in. The honors and citations and news paper articles can to this day be verified.
Try Google. You can also look up the right spelling of witnesses.

Well, this was another extremely derivative, triumphalist and sensationalist video on Bass Reeves with many of the same old exaggerations and errors that will never die. It's like, if you have seen one Bass video, then you have seen them all. Anyone that has done a little research on Bass, knows that Bennie Reeves surrendered to his father in Muskogee directly after the murder, and not on some long manhunt for the wife killer. He also has no "documented" connection to The Lone Ranger fiction character. Bass' factual history is being slowly destroyed by invented myths and media mediocrity. He deserves better.

It is in Oklahoma. ALL Cherokee who live there call it "mus-CO-gee".
